1 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.
2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4 And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and looked on them, and, behold, they were sad.
7 And he asked Pharaoh' officers that were with him in the ward of his lord' house, saying, Why look you so sadly to day?
8 And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11 And Pharaoh' cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh' cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh' hand.
12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up your head, and restore you to your place: and you shall deliver Pharaoh' cup into his hand, after the former manner when you were his butler.
14 But think on me when it shall be well with you, and show kindness, I pray you, to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket on my head.
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up your head from off you, and shall hang you on a tree; and the birds shall eat your flesh from off you.
20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh' birthday, that he made a feast to all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 And he restored the chief butler to his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh' hand:
22 But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgot him.
1 And it came to pass after these things that the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt committed offense against their lord, the king of Egypt.
2 And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker.
3 And he put them into custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison house, the place where Joseph was confined.
4 And the captain of the guard assigned Joseph to them, and he served them; so they were in custody for a time.
5 And the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each mans dream in one night and each mans dream with its own interpretation.
6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning and looked at them, and behold they appeared to be troubled.
7 So he asked Pharaohs officers who were with him in the custody of his lords house, saying, Why are your faces sad today?
8 And they said to him, We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter. So Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.
9 And the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, Behold, in my dream a vine was before me,
10 and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes.
11 And Pharaohs cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaohs cup, and put the cup into Pharaohs hand.
12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation: The three branches are three days.
13 Yet within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you shall put Pharaohs cup into his hand according to the former custom, when you were his cupbearer.
14 But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.
15 For truly I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should have put me into the dungeon.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also in my dream saw three baskets of white bread on my head.
17 And in the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation: The three baskets are three days.
19 Yet within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds shall eat your flesh from off you.
20 And it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaohs birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 And he restored the chief cupbearer to his cupbearing again, and he put the cup into Pharaohs hand.
22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
