1 When Israel went forth out of Egypt,

The house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

2 Judah became his sanctuary,

Israel his dominion.

3 The sea saw it, and fled;

The Jordan was driven back.

4 The mountains skipped like rams,

The little hills like lambs.

5 What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleest?

Thou Jordan, that thou turnest back?

6 Ye mountains, that ye skip like rams;

Ye little hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord,

At the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water,

The flint into a fountain of waters.

1 Cînd a ieşit Israel din Egipt, cînd a plecat casa lui Iacov dela un popor străin,

2 Iuda a ajuns locaşul Lui cel sfînt, şi Israel stăpînirea Lui.

3 Marea a văzut lucrul acesta şi a fugit, Iordanul s'a întors înapoi:

4 munţii au sărit ca nişte berbeci, şi dealurile ca nişte miei.

5 Ce ai tu, mare, de fugi, şi tu, Iordanule, de te întorci înapoi?

6 Ce aveţi, munţilor, de săltaţi ca nişte berbeci, şi voi, dealurilor, ca nişte miei?

7 Da, cutremură-te, pămîntule, înaintea Domnului, înaintea Dumnezeului lui Iacov,

8 care preface stînca în iaz, şi cremenea în izvor de ape.
