1 Pavel, apostol al lui Hristos Isus, prin voia lui Dumnezeu, după făgăduinţa vieţii care este în Hristos Isus,
2 către Timotei, copilul meu prea iubit: Har, îndurare şi pace dela Dumnezeu Tatăl, şi dela Hristos Isus, Domnul nostru!
3 Mulţămesc lui Dumnezeu, căruia Îi slujesc cu un cuget curat, din moşi strămoşi, că neîntrerupt te pomenesc în rugăciunile mele, zi şi noapte.
4 Căci mi-aduc aminte de lacrămile tale, şi doresc să te văd, ca să mă umplu de bucurie.
5 Îmi aduc aminte de credinţa ta neprefăcută, care s'a sălăşluit întîi în bunica ta Lois şi în mama ta Eunice, şi sînt încredinţat că şi în tine.
6 De aceea îţi aduc aminte să înflăcărezi darul lui Dumnezeu, care este în tine prin punerea mînilor mele.
7 Căci Dumnezeu nu ne -a dat un duh de frică, ci de putere, de dragoste şi de chibzuinţă.
8 Să nu-ţi fie ruşine dar de mărturisirea Domnului nostru, nici de mine, întemniţatul Lui. Ci sufere împreună cu Evanghelia, prin puterea lui Dumezeu.
9 El ne -a mîntuit şi ne -a dat o chemare sfîntă, nu pentru faptele noastre, ci după hotărîrea Lui şi după harul care ne -a fost dat în Hristos Isus, înainte de vecinicii,
10 dar care a fost descoperit acum prin arătarea Mîntuitorului nostru Hristos Isus, care a nimicit moartea şi a adus la lumină viaţa şi neputrezirea, prin Evanghelie.
11 Propovăduitorul şi apostolul ei am fost pus eu şi învăţător al Neamurilor.
12 Şi din pricina aceasta sufăr aceste lucruri; dar nu mi -e ruşine, căci ştiu în cine am crezut. Şi sînt încredinţat că El are putere să păzească ce I-am încredinţat pînă în ziua aceea.
13 Dreptarul învăţăturilor sănătoase, pe cari le-ai auzit dela mine, ţine -l cu credinţa şi dragostea care este în Hristos Isus.
14 Lucrul acela bun care ţi s'a încredinţat, păzeşte -l prin Duhul Sfînt, care locuieşte în noi.
15 Ştii că cei ce sînt în Asia toţi m'au părăsit; între alţii şi Figel şi Ermogen.
16 Domnul să-şi verse îndurarea peste casa lui Onisifor; căci de multe ori m'a mîngîiat, şi nu i -a fost ruşine de lanţul meu.
17 Nu numai atît, dar, cînd a fost în Roma, m'a căutat cu multă grijă şi m'a găsit.
18 Dea Domnul să capete îndurare dela Domnul ,,în ziua aceea``. Tu ştii foarte bine cît ajutor mi -a dat el în Efes.

3 I give praise to God, whose servant I have been, with a heart free from sin, from the time of my fathers, because in my prayers at all times the thought of you is with me, night and day
4 Desiring to see you, keeping in my memory your weeping, so that I may be full of joy;
5 Having in mind your true faith, which first was in your mother's mother Lois, and in your mother Eunice, and, I am certain, is now in you.
6 For this reason I say to you, Let that grace of God which is in you, given to you by my hands, have living power.
7 For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of self-control.
8 Have no feeling of shame, then, for the witness of our Lord or for me, his prisoner: but undergo all things for the good news in the measure of the power of God;
9 Who gave us salvation, marking us out for his purpose, not on account of our works, but in the measure of his purpose and his grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,
10 But has now been made clear by the revelation of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who put an end to death and made life unending come to light through the good news,
11 Of which I was made a preacher and an Apostle and a teacher;
12 And for which I undergo these things: but I have no feeling of shame. For I have knowledge of him in whom I have faith, and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have given into his care till that day.
13 Keep the form of those true words which you had from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
14 That good thing which was given to you keep safe, through the Holy Spirit which is in us.
15 You have had news that all those in Asia went away from me; among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes:
16 May the Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus because he frequently gave me help, and had no feeling of shame because I was in chains;
17 But when he was in Rome, he went in search of me everywhere, and came to me
18 (May he have the Lord's mercy in that day); and of all he did for me at Ephesus you have full knowledge.
