1 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise şi lui Aaron, şi le -a zis:
2 ,,Vorbiţi copiilor lui Israel, şi spuneţi-le: ,Iată dobitoacele pe cari le veţi mînca dintre toate dobitoacele depe pămînt.
3 Să mîncaţi orice dobitoc care are unghia despicată, copita despărţită şi rumegă.
4 Dar să nu mîncaţi din cele ce rumegă numai, sau cari au numai unghia despicată. Astfel, să nu mîncaţi cămila, care rumegă, dar n'are unghia despicată: s'o priviţi ca necurată.
5 Să nu mîncaţi iepurele de casă, care rumegă, dar n'are unghia despicată: să -l priviţi ca necurat.
6 Să nu mîncaţi iepurele, care rumegă, dar n'are unghia despicată: să -l priviţi ca necurat.
7 Să nu mîncaţi porcul, care are unghia despicată şi copita despărţită, dar nu rumegă; să -l priviţi ca necurat.
8 Să nu mîncaţi din carnea lor, şi să nu vă atingeţi de trupurile lor moarte: să le priviţi ca necurate.
9 Iată vieţuitoarele, pe cari să le mîncaţi dintre toate cele ce sînt în ape. Să mîncaţi din toate cele ce au aripi (înotătoare) şi solzi, şi cari sînt în ape, fie în mări, fie în rîuri.
10 Dar să priviţi ca o urîciune pe toate cele ce n'au aripi şi solzi, din tot ce mişună în ape şi tot ce trăieşte în ape, fie în mări, fie în rîuri.
11 Să le priviţi ca o urîciune, să nu mîncaţi din carnea lor, şi trupurile lor moarte să le priviţi ca o urîciune.
12 Să priviţi ca o urîciune pe toate cele cari n'au aripi şi solzi în ape.
13 Iată dintre păsări, cele pe cari le veţi privi ca o urîciune, şi din cari să nu mîncaţi: vulturul, gripsorul şi vulturul de mare;
14 şorecarul, şoimul şi tot ce este din neamul lui;
15 corbul şi toate soiurile lui;
16 struţul, bufniţa, pescărelul, coroiul şi tot ce ţine de neamul lui;
17 huhurezul, heretele şi cocostîrcul;
18 lebăda, pelicanul şi corbul de mare;
19 barza, bîtlanul, şi ce este din neamul lui, pupăza şi liliacul.
20 Să priviţi ca o urîciune orice tîrîtoare care sboară şi umblă pe patru picioare.
21 Dar, dintre toate tîrîtoarele cari sboară şi umblă pe patru picioare, să mîncaţi pe cele ce au fluerul picioarelor dinapoi mai lung, ca să poată sări pe pămînt.
22 Iată pe cari să le mîncaţi: lăcusta, lăcusta solam, lăcusta hargol şi lăcusta hagab, după soiurile lor.
23 Pe toate celelalte tîrîtoare cari sboară şi cari au patru picioare să le priviţi ca o urîciune.
24 Ele vă vor face necuraţi: oricine se va atinge de trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurat pînă seara,
25 şi oricine va purta trupurile lor moarte, să-şi spele hainele, şi va fi necurat pînă seara.
26 Să priviţi ca necurat orice dobitoc cu unghia despicată, dar care n'are copita despărţită şi nu rumegă: oricine se va atinge de el va fi necurat.
27 Să priviţi ca necurate toate acele dobitoace cu patru picioare, cari umblă pe labele lor: ori cine se va atinge de trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurat pînă seara;
28 şi ori cine le va purta trupurile moarte, îşi va spăla hainele şi va fi necurat pînă seara. Să le priviţi ca necurate.
29 Iată, din vietăţile cari se tîrăsc pe pămînt, cele pe cari le veţi privi ca necurate: cîrtiţa, şoarecele şi şopîrla, după soiurile lor;
30 ariciul, broasca, broasca ţestoasă, melcul şi cameleonul.
31 Să le priviţi ca necurate dintre toate tîrîtoarele: oricine se va atinge de ele moarte, va fi necurat pînă seara.
32 Orice lucru pe care va cădea ceva din trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurat, fie vas de lemn, fie haină, fie piele, fie sac, fie orice alt lucru care se întrebuinţează la ceva; să fie pus în apă, şi va rămînea necurat pînă seara; după aceea va fi curat.
33 Tot ce se va găsi într'un vas de pămînt în care va cădea ceva din aceste trupuri moarte, va fi necurat, şi veţi sparge vasul.
34 Orice lucru de mîncare, pe care va cădea ceva din apa aceasta, va fi necurat; şi orice băutură care se întrebuinţează la băut, oricare ar fi vasul în care se va găsi, va fi necurată.
35 Orice lucru, pe care va cădea ceva din trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurat; cuptorul şi vatra să se dărîme: vor fi necurate, şi le veţi privi ca necurate.
36 Numai izvoarele şi fîntînile, cari alcătuiesc grămezi de ape, vor rămînea curate; dar cine se va atinge de trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurat.
37 Dacă se întîmplă să cadă ceva din trupurile lor moarte pe o sămînţă care trebuie sămănată, ea va rămînea curată.
38 Dar dacă se pusese apă pe sămînţă, şi cade pe ea ceva din trupurile lor moarte, va fi necurată.
39 Dacă moare una din vitele cari vă slujesc ca hrană, cine se va atinge de trupul ei mort, va fi necurat pînă seara;
40 cine va mînca din trupul ei mort, îşi va spăla hainele şi va fi necurat pînă seara; şi cine va purta trupul ei mort, îşi va spăla hainele şi va fi necurat pînă seara.
41 Pe orice tîrîtoare care se tîrăşte pe pămînt, s'o priviţi ca necurată; să nu se mănînce.
42 Din toate tîrîtoarele cari se tîrăsc pe pămînt, din toate cele ce se tîrăsc pe pîntece, să nu mîncaţi; nici din toate cele ce umblă pe patru picioare sau pe un mare număr de picioare; ci să le priviţi ca o urîciune.
43 Să nu vă faceţi urîcioşi prin toate aceste tîrîtoare cari se tîrăsc; să nu vă faceţi necuraţi prin ele, să nu vă spurcaţi prin ele.
44 Căci Eu sînt Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru; voi să vă sfinţiţi, şi fiţi sfinţi, căci Eu sînt sfînt; să nu vă faceţi necuraţi prin toate aceste tîrîtoare cari se tîrăsc pe pămînt.
45 Căci Eu sînt Domnul, care v'am scos din ţara Egiptului, ca să fiu Dumnezeul vostru, şi să fiţi sfinţi; căci Eu sînt sfînt.
46 Aceasta este legea privitoare la dobitoacele, păsările, toate vieţuitoarele cari se mişcă în ape, şi toate vietăţile cari se tîrăsc pe pămînt,
47 ca să faceţi deosebire între ce este necurat şi ce este curat, între dobitocul care se mănîncă şi dobitocul care nu se mănîncă.``
1 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,
2 Say to the children of Israel: These are the living things which you may have for food among all the beasts on the earth.
3 You may have as food any beast which has a division in the horn of its foot, and whose food comes back into its mouth to be crushed again.
4 But, at the same time, of those beasts, you may not take for food the camel, because its food comes back but the horn of its foot is not parted in two; it is unclean to you.
5 And the rock-badger, for the same reason, is unclean to you.
6 And the hare, because the horn of its foot is not parted in two, is unclean to you.
7 And the pig is unclean to you, because though the horn of its foot is parted, its food does not come back.
8 Their flesh may not be used for food, and their dead bodies may not even be touched; they are unclean to you.
9 These you may have for food of all things living in the water: anything living in the water, in the seas or rivers, which has special parts for swimming and skin formed of thin plates, may be used for food.
10 All other things living and moving in the water, in the sea or in the rivers, are a disgusting thing to you;
11 They may not be used for food, and their dead bodies are disgusting to you.
12 Anything in the water which has no special parts for swimming and no thin plates on its skin is disgusting to you.
13 And among birds these are to be disgusting to you, and not to be used for food: the eagle and the gier-eagle and the ospray;
14 And the kite and the falcon, and birds of that sort;
15 Every raven, and birds of that sort;
16 And the ostrich and the night-hawk and the sea-hawk, and birds of that sort;
17 And the little owl and the cormorant and the great owl;
18 And the water-hen and the pelican and the vulture;
19 The stork and the heron, and birds of that sort, and the hoopoe and the bat.
20 Every winged four-footed thing which goes on the earth is disgusting to you;
21 But of the winged four-footed things, those which have long legs for jumping on the earth you may have for food;
22 Such as all the different sorts of locust.
23 But all other winged four-footed things which go on the earth are disgusting to you.
24 By these you will be made unclean; anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean till evening:
25 Whoever takes away the dead body of one of them is to have his clothing washed, and will be unclean till evening.
26 Every beast, in the horn of whose foot there is not a complete division, and whose food does not come back, is unclean to you: anyone touching one of these will be unclean.
27 Any four-footed beast which goes on the ball of its foot, is unclean to you: anyone touching the dead body of one of these will be unclean till evening.
28 Anyone who takes away the dead body of one of these is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening.
29 And these are unclean to you among things which go low down on the earth; the weasel and the mouse and the great lizard, and animals of that sort;
30 And the ferret and the land crocodile and the lizard and the sand-lizard and the chameleon.
31 All these are unclean to you: anyone touching them when they are dead will be unclean till evening.
32 The dead body of any of these, falling on anything, will make that thing unclean; if it is any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or bag, whatever it is, if it is used for any purpose, it will have to be put into water, and will be unclean till evening; after that it will be clean.
33 And if one of them gets into any vessel of earth, whatever is in the vessel will be unclean and the vessel will have to be broken.
34 Any food in it, and anything on which water from it comes, will be unclean: any drink taken from such a vessel will be unclean.
35 Any part of the dead body of one of these, falling on anything, will make it unclean; if it is an oven or a cooking-pot it will have to be broken: they are unclean and will be unclean to you.
36 But at the same time a fountain or a place where water is stored for use will be clean; but anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean.
37 If any part of the dead body of one of these gets on to any seed for planting, it is clean;
38 But if water is put on the seed, and any part of the dead body gets on to it, it will be unclean to you.
39 And if any beast which may be used for food comes to a natural death, anyone touching its dead body will be unclean till evening.
40 And he who makes use of any part of its body for food is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening; and anyone taking away its body is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening.
41 Everything which goes flat on its body on the earth is disgusting, and is not to be used for food.
42 Whatever goes on its stomach or on four feet or has a great number of feet, even all those going flat on the earth, may not be used for food, for they are disgusting.
43 You are not to make yourselves disgusting with anything which goes about flat on the earth; you may not make yourselves unclean with them, in such a way that you are not holy to me.
44 For I am the Lord your God: for this reason, make and keep yourselves holy, for I am holy; you are not to make yourselves unclean with any sort of thing which goes about flat on the earth.
45 For I am the Lord, who took you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; so be you holy, for I am holy.
46 This is the law about beasts and birds and every living thing moving in the waters, and every living thing which goes flat on the earth:
47 Marking out the unclean from the clean, and the living thing which may be used for food from that which may not.
