1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour beseemeth not a fool.
2 As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallow for flying, so a curse undeserved shall not come.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.

25 when his voice is gracious, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart.

12 Kennst du einen, der sich selbst für weise hält? / Für einen Dummen ist mehr Hoffnung als für ihn.
13 Der Faule sagt: "Draußen läuft ein Löwe herum, / ein Junglöwe mitten auf dem Platz."
14 Die Tür dreht sich in der Angel / und der Faule im Bett.
15 Greift der Faule mit der Hand in die Schüssel, / ist ihm die Mühe zu groß: Er bringt sie nicht zurück in den Mund.
16 Ein Faulpelz hält sich für klüger / als sieben Sachverständige.

20 Wo kein Holz mehr ist, geht das Feuer aus; / ist der Verleumder fort, legt sich der Streit.
21 Wie Kohlen die Glut und wie Holz das Feuer, / so schürt ein zänkischer Mann den Streit.
22 Die Worte des Verleumders werden gierig geschluckt / und dringen sehr tief ein.
23 Wie Silberglasur auf Tongeschirr / sind glatte Lippen und ein böses Herz.
24 Ein gehässiger Mensch verstellt seine Worte, / doch im Inneren ist er falsch.
25 Trau seinen schönen Worten nicht, / denn sieben Teufeleien hat er im Sinn.
26 Mag Hass sich hinter Verstellung verbergen, / in der Versammlung wird die Bosheit durchschaut.
27 Wer andern eine Grube gräbt, fällt selbst hinein. / Wer einen Stein hoch wälzt, auf den rollt er zurück.
28 Eine falsche Zunge hasst ihre Opfer, / und ein glatter Mund verursacht den Sturz.
