1 And they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.
2 And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3 But David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4 And David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into thy hand.
5 And David and his men went to Keilah, and fought against the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6 And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7 And it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. Then Saul said, God has cast him off into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a city that has gates and bars.
8 And Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9 And when David knew that Saul devised mischief against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod.
10 Then said David, Jehovah, God of Israel, thy servant hath heard for certain that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11 Will the citizens of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? Jehovah, God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And Jehovah said, He will come down.
12 And David said, Will the citizens of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovah said, They will deliver {thee} up.
13 Then David and his men, about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, and he forbore to go forth.
14 And David abode in the wilderness in strongholds, and abode in the mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand.
15 And David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life; and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
16 And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
17 And he said to him, Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father will not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next to thee; and that also Saul my father knows.
18 And they two made a covenant before Jehovah; and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
19 And the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in strongholds in the wood, on the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the waste?
20 And now, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and it will be for us to deliver him up into the king's hand.
21 And Saul said, Blessed be ye of Jehovah; for ye have compassion upon me.
22 Go, I pray you, make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his track is, who has seen him there; for it is told me that he deals very subtilly.
23 And see, and ascertain all the lurking-places where he hides himself, and come ye again to me with sure information, that I may go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout the thousands of Judah.
24 And they arose and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of the waste.
25 And Saul and his men went to seek {him}. And they told David; and he came down from the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And Saul heard {that}, and he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from Saul; and Saul and his men sought to surround David and his men to take them.
27 But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, Haste thee and come; for the Philistines have made a raid against the land.
28 And Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines; therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
29 And David went up from thence, and abode in the strongholds of Engedi.
1 Foi dito a Davi: Eis que os filisteus estão pelejando contra Queila, e saqueando as eiras.
2 Consultou Davi a Jeová, dizendo: Irei eu e ferirei estes filisteus? Respondeu Jeová a Davi: Vai, e ferirás aos filisteus, e salvarás a Queila.
3 Os homens de Davi disseram-lhe: Temos medo aqui em Judá, quanto mais se formos a Queila contra o exército dos filisteus?
4 Davi tornou a consultar a Jeová, que lhe respondeu: Levanta-te, desce a Queila; porque eu hei de entregar os filisteus nas tuas mãos.
5 Foram Davi e seus homens a Queila, e pelejaram contra os filisteus; Davi levou-lhes os gados e fez uma grande matança entre eles. Assim salvou os habitantes de Queila.
6 Ao fugir Abiatar, filho de Aimeleque, para Davi a Queila, desceu levando o efode na mão.
7 Foi comunicado a Saul que Davi tinha ido a Queila. Disse Saul: Deus o entregou nas minhas mãos; está encerrado, porque entrou numa cidade que tem portas e ferrolhos.
8 Então Saul mandou chamar todo o povo à peleja, para que descessem a Queila e sitiassem a Davi e aos seus homens.
9 Sabendo Davi que Saul lhe maquinava o mal, disse ao sacerdote Abiatar: Traze cá o efode.
10 Davi disse: O teu servo acaba de ouvir, Jeová, Deus de Israel, que Saul se prepara para vir a Queila a fim de destruir a cidade por minha causa.
11 Entregar-me-ão os cidadãos de Queila nas mãos dele? descerá Saul como o teu servo ouviu? Rogo-te, Jeová, Deus de Israel, que o digas ao teu servo. Respondeu Jeová: Descerá.
12 Perguntou Davi: Acaso os cidadãos de Queila me entregarão a mim e aos meus homens nas mãos de Saul? Respondeu Jeová: Entregarão.
13 Davi e seus homens, que eram cerca de seiscentos, levantaram-se e partiram de Queila, e andaram errantes para cá e para lá. Tendo sido dito a Saul que Davi escapara de Queila, deixou de sair.
14 Davi ficou no deserto em lugares seguros, e permaneceu na região montanhosa no deserto de Zife. Saul buscava-o todos os dias, mas Deus não o entregou nas suas mãos.
15 Vendo Davi que Saul saíra em busca da sua vida, permaneceu no deserto de Zife em Horesa.
16 Levantou-se Jônatas, filho de Saul, e foi ter com Davi em Horesa, e o confortou em Deus.
17 Disse-lhe: Não tenhas medo, pois não te achará a mão de Saul, meu pai. Tu reinarás sobre Israel, e eu serei o segundo depois de ti; o que também Saul, meu pai, bem sabe.
18 Ambos fizeram aliança diante de Jeová; ficou Davi em Horesa, e Jônatas voltou para sua casa.
19 Depois subiram os zifitas a ter com Saul em Gibeá, e disseram: Não se esconde Davi entre nós nos lugares seguros em Horesa, no outeiro de Haquilá, que está ao sul do deserto?
20 Agora desce, ó rei, conforme é todo o desejo do teu coração, e a nós, toca-nos entregá-lo nas mãos do rei.
21 Disse Saul: Benditos sejais de Jeová, porque vos compadecestes de mim.
22 Ide, informai-vos ainda melhor, sabei e notai o lugar que freqüenta e quem o tenha visto ali; pois se me diz que ele é muito astuto.
23 Vede e informai-vos acerca de todos os esconderijos em que ele se oculta, e tornai a vir ter comigo sem falta, e eu irei convosco. Se ele estiver na terra, eu o buscarei entre todos os milhares de Judá.
24 Eles se levantaram e foram para Zife adiante de Saul; Davi, e seus homens, porém, estavam no deserto de Maom, na Arabá ao sul de Jesimom.
25 Saul e seus homens foram em busca dele. Isto foi dito a Davi. Pelo que desceu para a penha, e ficou no deserto de Maom. O que tendo Saul ouvido, entrou no deserto para perseguir a Davi.
26 Saul ia duma banda do monte, e Davi e seus homens da outra banda do monte. Davi fugiu apressadamente para escapar de Saul, porque Saul e seus homens cercavam a Davi e aos seus para os prender.
27 Porém chegou um mensageiro a Saul dizendo: Apressa-te e vem, porque os filisteus acabam de invadir a terra.
28 Tornou-se Saul, deixando de perseguir a Davi, e marchou contra os filisteus. Por isso se chamou àquele lugar Sela-Hamalequote.
29 Davi subiu dali, e habitou nos lugares seguros de En-Gedi.
