13 You are the salt of the earth. If but the salt become tasteless, with what shall it be salted? for nothing is it of service any more, except to be cast out, and trodden under foot by the men.
14 You are the light of the world. Not possible a city to hide upon a hill being situated;
15 nor they light a lamp, and place him under the measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all those in the house.
16 Thus let it shine the light of you in the presence of the men, that they may see of you the good works, and may praise the Father of you that in the heavens.
13 »You are the salt of the earth. If its taste goes away, how will you restore it? It is good for nothing. All you can do is throw it on the ground and walk on it.
14 »You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill may be seen by all.
15 »A light is not placed under a cover. To the contrary, it is placed on a table so all may see.
16 »Likewise, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
