1 Ich selbst aber, Paulus, ermahne euch durch die Sanftmut und Gelindigkeit des Christus, der ich unter euch gegenwärtig {Eig. ins Angesicht} zwar demütig, abwesend aber kühn gegen euch bin.

2 Ich flehe aber, daß ich anwesend nicht kühn sein müsse mit der Zuversicht, mit welcher ich gedenke, gegen etliche dreist zu sein, die uns als nach dem Fleische wandelnd erachten.

3 Denn obwohl wir im Fleische wandeln, kämpfen wir nicht nach dem Fleische;

4 denn die Waffen unseres Kampfes sind nicht fleischlich, sondern göttlich {O. Gott gemäß} mächtig zur Zerstörung von Festungen;

5 indem wir Vernunftschlüsse zerstören und jede Höhe, die sich erhebt wider die Erkenntnis Gottes, und jeden Gedanken gefangen nehmen unter {Eig. in} den Gehorsam des Christus, {O. Christi}

6 und bereit stehen, allen Ungehorsam zu rächen, wenn euer Gehorsam erfüllt sein wird.

7 Sehet ihr auf das, was vor Augen ist? {S. V.1} Wenn jemand sich selbst zutraut, daß er Christi sei, so denke er dies wiederum bei sich selbst, daß, gleichwie er Christi ist, also auch wir.

8 Denn falls ich mich auch etwas mehr {Eig. überschwenglicher} über unsere Gewalt rühmen wollte, die [uns] der Herr zur Auferbauung und nicht zu eurer Zerstörung gegeben hat, so werde ich nicht zu Schanden werden,

9 auf daß ich nicht scheine, als wolle ich euch durch die Briefe schrecken.

10 Denn die Briefe, sagt man, {O. er} sind gewichtig und kräftig, aber die Gegenwart des Leibes ist schwach und die Rede verächtlich.

11 Ein solcher denke dieses, daß, wie wir abwesend im Worte durch Briefe sind, wir solche auch anwesend in der Tat sein werden.

12 Denn wir wagen nicht, uns selbst etlichen derer beizuzählen oder zu vergleichen, die sich selbst empfehlen; sie aber, indem sie sich an sich selbst messen und sich mit sich selbst vergleichen, sind unverständig.

13 Wir aber wollen uns nicht ins Maßlose rühmen, sondern nach dem Maße des Wirkungskreises, {O. der Meßschnur; so auch V.15. 16.} den der Gott des Maßes uns zugeteilt hat, um {And. Üb.: den Gott uns als Maß zugeteilt hat, um} auch bis zu euch zu gelangen.

14 Denn wir strecken uns selbst nicht zu weit aus, als gelangten wir nicht bis zu euch (denn wir sind auch bis zu euch gekommen in dem Evangelium des Christus),

15 indem wir uns nicht ins Maßlose rühmen in fremden Arbeiten, aber Hoffnung haben, wenn euer Glaube wächst, unter euch vergrößert zu werden nach unserem Wirkungskreise,

16 um noch überströmender das {O. unter euch überströmend vergrößert zu werden..., um das} Evangelium weiter über euch hinaus zu verkündigen, nicht in fremdem Wirkungskreise uns dessen zu rühmen, was schon bereit ist.

17 "Wer sich aber rühmt, rühme sich des {W. in dem} Herrn". {Jer. 9,24}

18 Denn nicht wer sich selbst empfiehlt, der ist bewährt, sondern den der Herr empfiehlt.

4 Ehara hoki nga rakau o ta matou pakanga i te mea no te kikokiko, engari he kaha i roto i te Atua hei whakahoro i nga pa kaha:

5 Horo ana i a matou nga whakaaroaronga me nga mea ikeike katoa e whakakake ana kite matauranga ki te Atua, a riro parau mai ana nga whakaaro katoa, ka meinga kia ngohengohe ki a te Karaiti;

6 Me te noho rite ano ki te whakapa riri mo nga mahi tutu katoa, ina tino ngohengohe rawa koutou.

7 E titiro ana koutou ki nga mea kei mua i to koutou mata. Ki te u te whakaaro o tetahi no te Karaiti ia, me mahara ia ki tenei mea ano hoki, no te Karaiti ia, pena ano hoki matou.

8 Ahakoa hoki ahua rahi ake taku whakamanamana mo nga tikanga i a matou nei, na te Ariki nei i homai hei hanga ake i a koutou, ehara i te mea hei tuku i a koutou ki raro, e kore ahau e meinga kia whakama:

9 Kia kaua ahau e meatia e whakawehi ana i a koutou ki aku pukapuka.

10 Ko ana pukapuka hoki, e ai ki ta ratou, he taimaha, he kaha; ko tona tinana ia i a ia i konei he ngoikore, ko tana korero he korekore noa iho.

11 Kia mahara taua tu tangata ki tenei, na ko to matou ahua i nga kupu o nga pukapuka i a matou e ngaro mai nei, koia ano to matou rite ki nga mahi me i kona matou.

12 E kore hoki matou e maia ki te whakauru atu, ki te whakariterite ranei i a matou ki etahi e whakapai nei ki a ratou ano: i a ratou ia e mehua nei i a ratou ki a ratou ano, e whakariterite nei i a ratou ki a ratou ano, kahore o ratou matauranga.

13 E kore hoki matou e whakamanamana ki tua atu i to matou mehua, engari ka rite ki te mehua o te wahanga i whakaritea mai e te Atua ma matou, e tae atu ai ki a koutou rawa.

14 Kahore hoki a matou totoro noa atu, e kiia ai kahore he taenga atu mo matou ki a koutou: i tae atu na hoki matou ki a koutou rawa na i runga i te rongopai o te Karaiti:

15 E kore hoki matou e whakamanamana ki ko atu i to matou mehua, ara, ki nga mahi a etahi atu; engari e u ana to matou whakaaro, ka tupu haere to koutou whakapono, ka ai koutou hei whakanui i a matou, e tino rite rawa ai ki to matou ruri;

16 Kia kauwhautia ai te rongopai ki nga wahi i ko atu i a koutou, kia kaua hoki e whakamanamana i runga i to te tangata ke ruri ki nga mea e noho tata ana ki to matou ringa.

17 Ki te whakamanamana ia tetahi, me whakamanamana ia ki te Ariki.

18 He teka hoki ko te tangata e whakapai ana ki a ia ano ka tikangatia, engari ko ta te Ariki e whakapai ai.
