1 Und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, die nach Ägypten kamen; mit Jakob kamen sie, ein jeder mit seinem Hause:

2 Ruben, Simeon, Levi und Juda;

3 Issaschar, Sebulon und Benjamin;

4 Dan und Naphtali, Gad und Aser.

5 Und es waren aller Seelen, die aus den Lenden Jakobs hervorgegangen waren, siebzig Seelen. Und Joseph war in Ägypten.

6 Und Joseph starb und alle seine Brüder und dasselbige ganze Geschlecht.

7 Und die Kinder Israel waren fruchtbar und wimmelten und mehrten sich und wurden sehr, sehr stark, und das Land wurde voll von ihnen.

8 Da stand ein neuer König über Ägypten auf, der Joseph nicht kannte.

9 Und er sprach zu seinem Volke: Siehe, das Volk der Kinder Israel ist zahlreicher und stärker als wir.

10 Wohlan, laßt uns klug gegen dasselbe handeln, daß es sich nicht mehre und es nicht geschehe, wenn Krieg eintritt, daß es sich auch zu unseren Feinden schlage und wider uns streite und aus dem Lande hinaufziehe.

11 Und sie setzten Frohnvögte über dasselbe, um es mit ihren Lastarbeiten zu drücken; und es baute dem Pharao Vorratsstädte: Pithom und Raemses.

12 Aber so wie sie es drückten, also mehrte es sich, und also breitete es sich aus; und es graute ihnen vor den Kindern Israel.

13 Und die Ägypter hielten die Kinder Israel mit Härte zum Dienst an.

14 Und sie machten ihnen das Leben bitter durch harten Dienst in Lehm und in Ziegeln, und durch allerlei Dienst auf dem Felde, neben all ihrem Dienst, zu welchem sie sie anhielten mit Härte. {O.... Felde. All ihr Dienst war mit Härte}

15 Und der König von Ägypten sprach zu den hebräischen Hebammen, von denen der Name der einen Schiphra und der Name der anderen Pua war,

16 und sagte: Wenn ihr den Hebräerinnen bei der Geburt helfet und ihr sie auf dem Geburtsstuhl {der Sinn des hebräischen Wortes ist zweifelhaft} sehet: wenn es ein Sohn ist, so tötet ihn, und wenn eine Tochter, so mag sie leben.

17 Aber die Hebammen fürchteten Gott und taten nicht, wie der König von Ägypten zu ihnen gesagt hatte, und erhielten die Knäblein am Leben.

18 Und der König von Ägypten rief die Hebammen und sprach zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr dieses getan und die Knäblein am Leben erhalten?

19 Und die Hebammen sprachen zum Pharao: Weil die hebräischen Weiber nicht sind wie die ägyptischen, denn sie sind kräftig; ehe die Hebamme zu ihnen kommt, haben sie geboren.

20 Und Gott tat den Hebammen Gutes; und das Volk mehrte sich und wurde sehr stark.

21 Und es geschah, weil die Hebammen Gott fürchteten, so machte er ihnen Häuser. {d.h. Familien; vergl. 2. Sam. 7,11; 1. Kön. 2,24}

22 Da gebot der Pharao all seinem Volke und sprach: Jeden Sohn, der geboren wird, sollt ihr in den Strom werfen, jede Tochter aber sollt ihr leben lassen.

7 A ka tupu nga tama a Iharaira, ka tini haere, ka hira rawa, ka kaha noa atu; a kapi ana te whenua i a ratou.

8 Na kua puta he kingi hou mo Ihipa, kihai i mohio ki a Hohepa.

9 A ka ki ia ki tona iwi, Nana, hira ake, kaha ake i a tatou te iwi o nga tama a Iharaira.

10 Tena, kia ata ngarahu tatou ki a ratou; kei tini haere, a tenei ake, ki te ara he pakanga, na, ka uru hoki ratou ki o tatou hoariri, ka whawhai ki a tatou, a ka maunu atu i te whenua.

11 Na ka whakaritea he rangatira akiaki mo ratou, hei whakawhui mo ratou ki a ratou kawenga. A hanga ana e ratou nga pa takotoranga taonga mo Parao, a Pitoma, a Raamahehe.

13 A nanakia noa iho te whakamahinga a nga Ihipiana i nga tama a Iharaira:

14 A meatia ana e ratou kia kawa ake ratou ki te ora, i te nui o te mahi, i te paru pokepoke, i te pereki, i nga mahi katoa o te mara, a ratou mahi katoa, i whakawhiua ai ratou ki te mahi.

15 Na ka mea te kingi o Ihipa ki nga wahine whakawhanau i nga wahine a nga Hiperu; ko te ingoa o tetahi ko hipera, ko te ingoa hoki o tetahi ko Pua:

16 I ki ia, E whakawhanau korua i nga wahine a nga Hiperu, a ka kite i a ratou i runga i nga kumete, ki te mea he tamaiti tane, whakamatea; he kotiro ia, kia ora tena.

17 Otira i wehi nga kaiwhakawhanau ki te Atua, kihai hoki i mea i ta te kingi o Ihipa i mea ai ki a raua, a whakaorangia ana e raua nga tamariki tane.

18 Na ka karangatia nga kaiwhakawhanau e te kingi o Ihipa, a ka mea ki a raua, Na te aha tenei mahi a korua, i whakaora ai korua i nga tamariki tane?

19 A ka mea nga kaiwhakawhanau ki a Parao, No te mea ra, ehara nga wahine a nga Hiperu i te pena me nga wahine a nga Ihipiana; e maia ana hoki ratou, kahore ano kia tae atu te kaiwhakawhanau ki a ratou kua whanau.

20 Na ka atawhai te Atua ki nga kaiwhakawhanau; a ka nui haere te iwi, a kaha rawa ana.

21 A, no te mea i wehi nga kaiwhakawhanau ki te Atua, ka hanga e ia he whare mo raua.

22 Na ka ako a Parao ki tona iwi katoa, ka mea, Ko nga tamariki tane katoa e whanau mai, maka atu e koutou ki te awa, ko nga kotiro katoa ia, me whakaora.
