7 For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind: 8 but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison.
15 By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh great things:
4 Who have said, with our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
2 For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
36 And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
28 And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness, and of thy praise all the day long.
9 Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
18 There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
9 Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the likeness of God: 10 out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? neither can salt water yield sweet.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: when he shutteth his lips, he is esteemed as prudent.
26 If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.
3 Now if we put the horses’ bridles into their mouths, that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. 4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so great, and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. 5 So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.
30 The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom, and his tongue speaketh judgment.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression: but he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
