1 Quanto alle classi de’ portinai, v’erano: dei Korahiti: Mescelemia, figliuolo di Kore, dei figliuoli d’Asaf.

2 Figliuoli di Mescelemia: Zaccaria, il primogenito, Jediael il secondo, Zebadia il terzo, Jathniel il quarto,

3 Elam il quinto, Johanan il sesto, Eliehoenai il settimo.

4 Figliuoli di Obed-Edom: Scemaia, il primogenito, Jehozabad il secondo, Joah il terzo, Sacar il quarto, Nethanel il quinto,

5 Ammiel il sesto, Issacar il settimo, Peullethai l’ottavo; poiché Dio l’avea benedetto.

6 E a Scemaia, suo figliuolo, nacquero dei figliuoli che signoreggiarono sulla casa del padre loro, perché erano uomini forti e valorosi.

7 Figliuoli di Scemaia: Othni, Refael, Obed, Elzabad e i suoi fratelli, uomini valorosi, Elihu e Semachia.

8 Tutti questi erano figliuoli di Obed-Edom; essi, i loro figliuoli e i loro fratelli erano uomini valenti e pieni di forza per il servizio: sessantadue di Obed-Edom.

9 Mescelemia ebbe figliuoli e fratelli, uomini valenti, in numero di diciotto.

10 Hosa, de’ figliuoli di Merari, ebbe per figliuoli: Scimri il capo che il padre avea fatto capo, quantunque non fosse il primogenito

11 Hilkia il secondo, Tebalia il terzo, Zaccaria il quarto. Tutti i figliuoli e i fratelli di Hosa erano in numero di tredici.

12 A queste classi di portinai, ai capi di questi uomini, come anche ai loro fratelli, fu affidato l’incarico del servizio della casa dell’Eterno.

13 E tirarono a sorte, per ciascuna porta: i più piccoli come i più grandi, nell’ordine delle loro case patriarcali.

14 Per il lato d’oriente la sorte designò Scelemia. Si tirò poi a sorte per Zaccaria, suo figliuolo, ch’era un consigliere di senno; e la sorte designò lui per il lato di settentrione.

15 Per il lato di mezzogiorno, la sorte designò Obed-Edom; e per i magazzini designò i suoi figliuoli.

16 Per il lato d’occidente, con la porta Shalleketh, sulla via che sale, la sorte designò Shuppim e Hosa: rano due posti di guardia, uno dirimpetto all’altro.

17 A oriente v’erano sei Leviti; al settentrione, quattro per giorno; a mezzodì, quattro per giorno, e quattro ai magazzini, due per ogni ingresso;

18 al recinto del tempio, a occidente, ve n’erano addetti quattro per la strada, due per il recinto.

19 Queste sono le classi dei portinai, scelti tra i figliuoli di Kore e i figliuoli di Merari.

20 I Leviti, loro fratelli, erano preposti ai tesori della casa di Dio e ai tesori delle cose consacrate.

21 I figliuoli di Laedan, i figliuoli dei Ghershoniti discesi da Laedan, i capi delle case patriarcali di aedan il Ghershonita, cioè Jehieli;

22 e i figliuoli di Jehieli: Zetham e Joel suo fratello, erano preposti ai tesori della casa dell’Eterno.

23 Fra gli Amramiti, gli Jtsehariti, gli Hebroniti e gli Uzzieliti,

24 Scebuel, figliuolo di Ghershom, figliuolo di Mosè, era sovrintendente dei tesori.

25 Tra i suoi fratelli per il tramite di Eliezer, che ebbe per figliuolo Rehabia, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Isaia, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Joram, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Zicri, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Scelomith,

26 questo Scelomith e i suoi fratelli erano preposti a tutti i tesori delle cose sacre, che il re Davide, i capi delle case patriarcali, i capi di migliaia e di centinaia e i capi dell’esercito aveano consacrate

27 (prelevandole dal bottino di guerra per il mantenimento della casa dell’Eterno),

28 e a tutto quello ch’era stato consacrato da Samuele, il veggente, da Saul, figliuolo di Kis, da Abner, figliuolo di Ner, e da Joab, figliuolo di Tseruia. Chiunque consacrava qualcosa l’affidava alle mani di Scelomith e de’ suoi fratelli.

29 Fra gli Jtshariti, Kenania e i suoi figliuoli erano addetti agli affari estranei al tempio, come magistrati e giudici in Israele.

30 Fra gli Hebroniti, Hashabia e i suoi fratelli, uomini valorosi, in numero di millesettecento furono preposti alla sorveglianza d’Israele, di qua dal Giordano, a occidente, per tutti gli affari che concernevano l’Eterno, e per il servizio del re.

31 Fra gli Hebroniti (circa gli Hebroniti, l’anno quarantesimo del regno di Davide si fecero delle ricerche relative alle loro genealogie, secondo le loro case patriarcali, e si trovaron fra loro degli uomini forti e valorosi a Jaezer in Galaad)

32 v’erano il capo Ieria e i suoi fratelli, uomini valorosi, in numero di duemila settecento capi di case patriarcali; e il re Davide affidò loro la sorveglianza dei Rubeniti, dei Gaditi, della mezza tribù di Manasse, per tutte le cose concernenti Dio e per tutti gli affari del re.

1 Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph. 2 And the sons of Meshelemiah were, Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth, 3 Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Elioenai the seventh. 4 Moreover the sons of Obed-edom were, Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth, 5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed him. 6 Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour. 7 The sons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu, and Semachiah. 8 All these of the sons of Obed-edom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men for strength for the service, were threescore and two of Obed-edom. 9 And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, strong men, eighteen. 10 Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;) 11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen. 12 Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.

13 And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate. 14 And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward. 15 To Obed-edom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim. 16 To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward. 17 Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppim two and two. 18 At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar. 19 These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari.

20 And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things. 21 As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli. 22 The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD. 23 Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites: 24 And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures. 25 And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son. 26 Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated. 27 Out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD. 28 And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated; and whosoever had dedicated any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

29 Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges. 30 And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king. 31 Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead. 32 And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
