10 So Pilate said to him, "Aren't you going to speak to me? You realize, don't you, that I have the authority to release you and the authority to crucify you?"
11 Jesus answered him,"You have no authority over me at all, except what was given to you from above. That's why the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
1 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be registered.
2 This was the first registration taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 So all the people went to their hometowns to be registered.
4 Joseph, too, went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was a descendant of the household and family of David.
5 He went there to be registered with Mary, who had been promised to him in marriage and was pregnant.
9 because a door has opened wide for me to do effective work, although many people are opposing me.
12 Continue to live such upright lives among the Gentiles that, when they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good works and glorify God when he visits them in judgment.
13 For the Lord's sake submit yourselves to every human authority: whether to the king as supreme,
14 or to governors who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.
18 Because of me you will be brought before governors and kings to testify to them and the Gentiles.
19 When they hand you over, don't worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say, for in that hour what you are to say will be given to you.
8 Do not owe anyone anything—except to love one another. For the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
1 Every person must be subject to the governing authorities, for no authority exists except by God's permission. The existing authorities have been established by God,
2 so that whoever resists the authorities opposes what God has established, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
3 For the authorities are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you like to live without being afraid of the authorities? Then do what is right, and you will receive their approval.
4 For they are God's servants working for your good. But if you do what is wrong, you should be afraid, for it is not without reason that they bear the sword. Indeed, they are God's servants to execute wrath on anyone who does wrong.
5 Therefore, it is necessary for you to be subject, not only because of God's wrath but also because of your own conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes. For rulers are God's servants faithfully devoting themselves to their work.
7 Pay everyone whatever you owe them—taxes to whom taxes are due, tolls to whom tolls are due, fear to whom fear is due, honor to whom honor is due.
25 Come to terms quickly with your opponent while you are on the way to court,or your opponent may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.
26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out of there until you pay back the last penny!"
24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came up to Peter and said, "Your teacher pays the temple tax, doesn't he?"
25 He answered, "Yes."When Peter went home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying,"What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings on the earth collect tolls or tributes? From their own subjects,or from foreigners?"
26 When he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him,"In that case, the subjectsare exempt.
27 However, so that we don't offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, open itsmouth, and you will find a coin.Take it and give it to them for me and you."
17 So tell us what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
18 But Jesus recognized their wickedness and said,"Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
19 Show me the coin used for the tax."They brought him a denarius.
20 Then he asked them,"Whose face and name is this?"
21 They said to him, "Caesar's."So he said to them,"Then give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
