1 IL re Salomone adunque fu re sopra tutto Israele.
2 E questi erano i principali signori della sua corte: Azaria, figliuolo di Sadoc, era Governatore;
3 Elihoref ed Ahia, figliuoli di Sisa, erano Segretari; Iosafat, figliuolo di Ahilud, era Cancelliere;
4 Benaia, figliuolo di Ioiada, era Capo dell’esercito; e Sadoc ed Ebiatar erano Sacerdoti;
5 ed Azaria, figliuolo di Natan, era sopra i commissari; e Zabud, figliuolo di Natan, era principale Ufficiale, famigliare del re;
6 ed Ahizar era il gran Maestro di casa; e Adoniram, figliuolo di Abda, era sopra i tributi.
7 Or Salomone avea dodici commissari sopra tutto Israele, i quali provvedevano di vittuaglia il re e la sua casa; ciascuno di essi avea la cura di provvedere di vittuaglia un mese dell’anno.
8 E questi erano i nomi loro: Il figliuolo di Ur era commissario nel monte di Efraim.
9 Il figliuolo di Decher, in Macas, ed in Saalbim, ed in Bet-semes, ed in Elon, ed in Bet-hanan.
10 Il figliuolo di Hesed, in Arubbot; del suo ripartimento era Soco, e tutto il paese di Hefer.
11 Il figliuolo di Abinadab, in tutta la contrada di Dor; costui ebbe per moglie Tafat, figliuola di Salomone.
12 Baana, figliuolo di Ahilud, in Taanac, ed in Meghiddo, ed in tutta la contrada di Bet-sean, che è presso di Sartan, disotto ad Izreel, da Bet-sean fino ad Abel-mehola, fin di là da Iocmeam.
13 Il figliuolo di Gheber, in Ramot di Galaad; del suo ripartimento erano le villate di Iair, figliuol di Manasse, che sono in Galaad; ed anche la contrada di Argob che è in Basan; sessanta gran città murate, con isbarre di rame.
14 Ahinadab, figliuolo d’Iddo, in Mahanaim.
15 Ahimaas, in Neftali; ancora costui prese una figliuola di Salomone, cioè: Basmat, per moglie.
16 Baana, figliuolo di Husai, in Aser, ed in Alot.
17 Iosafat, figliuolo di Parua, in Issacar.
18 Simi, figliuolo di Ela, in Beniamino.
19 Gheber, figliuolo di Uri, nel paese di Galaad, che fu il paese di Sihon, re degli Amorrei, e di Og, re di Basan; ed era solo commissario in quel paese
20 Giuda ed Israele erano in gran numero; erano come la rena ch’è in sul lito del mare, in moltitudine; mangiavano, e beveano, e si rallegravano.
21 E Salomone signoreggiava sopra tutti i regni di qua dal Fiume, infino al paese de’ Filistei, ed infino a’ confini di Egitto; essi portavano presenti a Salomone, e furono suoi soggetti tutto il tempo della vita sua.
22 Ora la provvisione della vittuaglia di Salomone, per ciascun giorno, era di trenta cori di fior di farina, e di sessanta cori d’altra farina;
23 di dieci buoi grassi, e di venti buoi di pasco, e di cento montoni, oltre a’ cervi, e cavriuoli, e daini, e pollame di stia.
24 Perciocchè egli signoreggiava in tutto il paese di qua del Fiume, da Tifsa fino in Gaza, sopra tutti i re ch’erano di qua dal Fiume; ed avea pace d’intorno a sè da ogni lato.
25 E Giuda ed Israele dimoravano in sicurtà, ciascuno sotto alla sua vite, e sotto al suo fico, da Dan fino in Beerseba, tutto il tempo di Salomone.
26 Salomone avea ancora quarantamila luoghi da cavalli per li suoi carri, e per dodicimila cavalieri.
27 E que’ commissari, un mese dell’anno per uno, provvedevano di vittuaglia il re Salomone, e tutti quelli che si accostavano alla sua tavola; non lasciavano mancar cosa alcuna.
28 Facevano eziandio venir l’orzo e la paglia, per i cavalli e per i muli, nel luogo dove erano; ciascuno secondo la sua commissione
29 E IDDIO diede sapienza a Salomone, e grandissimo senno, ed un animo capace di tante cose, quant’è la rena ch’è in sul lito del mare.
30 E la sapienza di Salomone fu maggiore che la sapienza di tutti gli Orientali, e che tutta la sapienza degli Egizi;
31 talchè egli era più savio che alcun altro uomo; più ch’Etan Ezrahita, e che Heman, e che Calcol e che Darda, figliuoli di Mahol; e la sua fama andò per tutte le nazioni d’ogn’intorno.
32 Ed egli pronunziò tremila sentenze; ed i suoi cantici furono in numero di mille e cinque.
33 Parlò eziandio degli alberi, dal cedro ch’è nel Libano, fino all’isopo che nasce nella parete; parlò anche delle bestie, e degli uccelli, e de’ rettili, e de’ pesci.
34 E da tutti i popoli, da parte di tutti i re della terra, che aveano udito parlare della sapienza di Salomone, si veniva per udire la sua sapienza
1 And king Solomon is king over all Israel,
2 and these [are] the heads whom he hath: Azariah son of Zadok [is] the priest;
3 Elihoreph and Ahiah sons of Shisha [are] scribes; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud [is] remembrancer;
4 and Benaiah son of Jehoiada [is] over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar [are] priests;
5 and Azariah son of Nathan [is] over the officers; and Zabud son of Nathan [is] minister, friend of the king;
6 And Ahishar [is] over the household, and Adoniram son of Abda [is] over the tribute.
7 And Solomon hath twelve officers over all Israel, and they have sustained the king and his household -- a month in the year is on each one for sustenance;
8 and these [are] their names: Ben-Hur in the hill-country of Ephraim;
9 Ben-Dekar in Makaz, and Shaalbim, and Beth-Shemesh, and Elon-Beth-Hanan.
10 Ben-Hesed [is] in Aruboth, hath Sochoh and all the land of Hepher;
11 Ben-Abinadab [hath] all the elevation of Dor, Taphath daughter of Solomon became his wife.
12 Baana Ben-Ahilud [hath] Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-Shean, which [is] by Zartanah beneath Jezreel, from Beth-Shean unto Abel-Meholah, unto beyond Jokneam.
13 Ben-Geber, in Ramoth-Gilead, hath the small towns of Jair son of Manasseh, which [are] in Gilead; he hath a portion of Argob that [is] in Bashan, sixty great cities [with] wall and brazen bar.
14 Ahinadab son of Iddo [hath] Mahanaim.
15 Ahimaaz [is] in Naphtali; he also hath taken Basemath daughter of Solomon for a wife.
16 Baanah Ben-Hushai [is] in Asher, and in Aloth.
17 Jehoshaphat Ben-Paruah [is] in Issachar.
18 Shimei Ben-Elah [is] in Benjamin.
19 Geber Ben-Uri [is] in the land of Gilead, the land of Sihon king of the Amorite, and of Og king of Bashan: and one officer who [is] in the land.
20 Judah and Israel [are] many, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing.
21 And Solomon hath been ruling over all the kingdoms, from the River [to] the land of the Philistines and unto the border of Egypt: they are bringing nigh a present, and serving Solomon, all days of his life.
22 And the provision of Solomon for one day is thirty cors of flour, and sixty cors of meal;
23 ten fat oxen, and twenty feeding oxen, and a hundred sheep, apart from hart, and roe, and fallow-deer, and fatted beasts of the stalls,
24 for he is ruling over all beyond the river, from Tiphsah and unto Gaza, over all the kings beyond the river, and he hath peace from all his servants round about.
25 And Judah dwelleth -- and Israel -- in confidence, each under his vine, and under his fig-tree, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, all the days of Solomon.
26 And Solomon hath forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
27 And these officers have sustained king Solomon and every one drawing near unto the table of king Solomon, each [in] his month; they let nothing be lacking.
28 And the barley and the straw, for horses and for dromedaries, they bring in unto the place where they are, each according to his ordinance.
29 And God giveth wisdom to Solomon, and understanding, very much, and breadth of heart, as the sand that [is] on the edge of the sea;
30 and the wisdom of Solomon is greater than the wisdom of any of the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt;
31 and he is wiser than all men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, sons of Mahol, and his name is in all the nations round about.
32 And he speaketh three thousand similes, and his songs [are] five, and the chief one;
33 and he speaketh concerning the trees, from the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, even unto the hyssop that is coming out in the wall, and he speaketh concerning the cattle, and concerning the fowl, and concerning the creeping things, and concerning the fishes,
34 and there come out of all the peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth who have heard of his wisdom.
