1 PERCIOCCHÈ voi stessi sapete, fratelli, che la nostra entrata fra voi non è stata vana.
2 Anzi, benchè prima avessimo, come sapete, patito, e fossimo stati ingiuriati in Filippi, pur ci siamo francamente inanimati nell’Iddio nostro, da annunziarvi l’evangelo di Dio, con molto combattimento.
3 Poichè la nostra esortazione non procede da inganno, nè da impurità; e non è con frode.
4 Anzi, come siamo stati approvati da Dio, per fidarci l’Evangelo; così parliamo, non come per piacere agli uomini, ma a Dio che prova i nostri cuori.
5 Perciocchè ancora noi non abbiamo giammai usato parlar lusinghevole, come voi sapete, nè occasione d’avarizia; Iddio ne è testimonio.
6 Nè abbiamo cercato gloria dagli uomini, nè da voi, nè da altri, benchè potessimo usar gravità, come apostoli di Cristo
7 Ma siamo stati mansueti fra voi, come una balia, che alleva teneramente i suoi propri figliuoli.
8 In questa maniera, avendovi sommamente cari, eravamo mossi di buona volontà a comunicarvi, non sol l’evangelo di Dio, ma ancora le nostre proprie anime; perchè ci eravate diletti.
9 Perciocchè, fratelli, voi vi ricordate della nostra fatica, e travaglio; poichè, lavorando giorno e notte, per non gravare alcun di voi, abbiam predicato in mezzo a voi l’Evangelo di Dio.
10 Voi siete testimoni, e Dio ancora, come ci siam portati santamente, e giustamente, e senza biasimo, inverso voi che credete.
11 Siccome voi sapete che, come un padre i suoi figliuoli, noi abbiamo esortato, e consolato ciascun di voi;
12 e protestato che camminiate condegnamente a Dio, che vi chiama al suo regno e gloria
13 Perciò ancora, noi non restiamo di render grazie a Dio, di ciò che, avendo ricevuta da noi la parola della predicazione di Dio, voi l’avete raccolta, non come parola d’uomini; ma, siccome è veramente, come parola di Dio, la quale ancora opera efficacemente in voi che credete.
14 Poichè voi, fratelli, siete divenuti imitatori delle chiese di Dio, che son nella Giudea, in Cristo Gesù; perciocchè ancora voi avete sofferte da quei della vostra nazione le medesime cose ch’essi da’ Giudei.
15 I quali ed hanno ucciso il Signor Gesù, e i lor propri profeti; e ci hanno scacciati, e non piacciono a Dio, e son contrari a tutti gli uomini;
16 divietandoci di parlare a’ Gentili, acciocchè sieno salvati; affin di colmar sempre la misura de ‘lor peccati; or l’ira è venuta sopra loro fino all’estremo
17 OR noi, fratelli, orbati di voi per un momento di tempo, di faccia, e non di cuore, ci siam vie più studiati di veder la vostra faccia, con molto desiderio.
18 Perciò, siam voluti, io Paolo almeno, una e due volte, venire a voi; ma Satana ci ha impediti.
19 Perciocchè, quale è la nostra speranza, o allegrezza, o corona di gloria? non siete dessa ancora voi, nel cospetto del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, nel suo avvenimento?
20 Poichè voi siete la nostra gloria ed allegrezza
1 For yourselves have known, brethren, our entrance in unto you, that it did not become vain,
2 but having both suffered before, and having been injuriously treated (as ye have known) in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the good news of God in much conflict,
3 for our exhortation [is] not out of deceit, nor out of uncleanness, nor in guile,
4 but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the good news, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who is proving our hearts,
5 for at no time did we come with speech of flattery, (as ye have known,) nor in a pretext for covetousness, (God [is] witness!)
6 nor seeking of men glory, neither from you nor from others, being able to be burdensome, as Christ`s apostles.
7 But we became gentle in your midst, as a nurse may cherish her own children,
8 so being desirous of you, we are well-pleased to impart to you not only the good news of God, but also our own souls, because beloved ye have become to us,
9 for ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail, for, night and day working not to be a burden upon any of you, we did preach to you the good news of God;
10 ye [are] witnesses -- God also -- how kindly and righteously, and blamelessly to you who believe we became,
11 even as ye have known, how each one of you, as a father his own children, we are exhorting you, and comforting, and testifying,
12 for your walking worthily of God, who is calling you to His own reign and glory.
13 Because of this also, we -- we do give thanks to God continually, that, having received the word of hearing from us of God, ye accepted, not the word of man, but as it is truly, the word of God, who also doth work in you who believe;
14 for ye became imitators, brethren, of the assemblies of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because such things ye suffered, even ye, from your own countrymen, as also they from the Jews,
15 who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men [are] contrary,
16 forbidding us to speak to the nations that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always, but the anger did come upon them -- to the end!
17 And we, brethren, having been taken from you for the space of an hour -- in presence, not in heart -- did hasten the more abundantly to see your face in much desire,
18 wherefore we wished to come unto you, (I indeed Paul,) both once and again, and the Adversary did hinder us;
19 for what [is] our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? are not even ye before our Lord Jesus Christ in his presence?
20 for ye are our glory and joy.
