POI prese di nuovo ad insegnare, presso al mare; ed una gran moltitudine si raunò presso a lui, talchè egli, montato nella navicella, sedeva in essa sul mare; e tutta la moltitudine era in terra, presso del mare. 
Ed egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole, e diceva loro nella sua dottrina: 
Udite: Ecco, un seminatore uscì a seminare. 
Ed avvenne che mentre egli seminava, una parte cadde lungo la via, e gli uccelli del cielo vennero, e la mangiarono. 
Ed un’altra cadde in luoghi pietrosi, ove non avea molta terra; e subito nacque, perciocchè non avea terreno profondo; 
ma quando il sole fu levato, fu riarsa; e, perciocchè non avea radice, si seccò. 
Ed un’altra cadde fra le spine, e le spine crebbero, e l’affogarono, e non fece frutto. 
Ed un’altra cadde in buona terra, e portò frutto, il quale montò, e crebbe; e portò l’uno trenta, l’altro sessanta e l’altro cento. 
Poi egli disse: Chi ha orecchie da udire, oda. 
Ora, quando egli fu in disparte coloro che lo seguitavano, co’ dodici, lo domandarono della parabola. 
Ed egli disse loro: A voi è dato di conoscere il misterio del regno di Dio; ma a coloro che son di fuori tutte queste cose si propongono per parabole. 
Acciocchè riguardino bene, ma non veggano; e odano bene, ma non intendano; che talora non si convertano, ed i peccati non sien loro rimessi. 
Poi disse loro: Non intendete voi questa parabola? e come intenderete tutte le altre parabole? 
Il seminatore è colui che semina la parola. 
Or questi son coloro che ricevono la semenza lungo la strada, cioè, coloro ne’ quali la parola è seminata, e dopo che l’hanno udita, subito viene Satana, e toglie via la parola seminata ne’ loro cuori. 
E simigliantemente questi son coloro che ricevono la semenza in luoghi pietrosi, cioè, coloro i quali, quando hanno udita la parola, prestamente la ricevono con allegrezza. 
Ma non hanno in sè radice, anzi son di corta durata; e poi, avvenendo tribolazione, o persecuzione per la parola, subito sono scandalezzati. 
E questi son coloro che ricevono la semenza fra le spine, cioè, coloro che odono la parola. 
Ma le sollecitudini di questo secolo, e l’inganno delle ricchezze, e le cupidità delle altre cose, entrate, affogano la parola, onde diviene infruttuosa. 
Ma questi son coloro che hanno ricevuta la semenza in buona terra, cioè, coloro i quali odono la parola, e la ricevono, e portano frutto, l’un trenta, e l’altro sessanta, e l’altro cento 
DISSE loro ancora: È la lampana recata, acciocchè si ponga sotto il moggio, o sotto il letto? non è ella recata, acciocchè sia posta sopra il candelliere? 
Poichè nulla è occulto, che non debba esser manifestato; ed anche nulla è restato occulto per lo passato: ma è convenuto che fosse palesato. 
Se alcuno ha orecchie da udire, oda. 
Disse loro ancora: Ponete mente a ciò che voi udite. Della misura che misurate, vi sarà misurato; ed a voi che udite sarà sopraggiunto. 
Perciocchè a chiunque ha, sarà dato; ma chi non ha, eziandio quel ch’egli ha gli sarà tolto. 
OLTRE a ciò disse: Il regno di Dio è come se un uomo avesse gettata la semenza in terra; 
e dormisse, e si levasse di giorno, e di notte; ed intanto la semenza germogliasse, e crescesse nella maniera ch’egli non sa. 
Poichè la terra da sè stessa produce prima erba, poi spiga, poi grano compiuto nella spiga. 
E quando il frutto è maturo, subito vi si mette la falce, perciocchè la mietitura è venuta. 
DICEVA ancora: A che assomiglieremo il regno di Dio? o con qual similitudine lo rappresenteremo? 
Egli è simile ad un granel di senape, il quale, quando è seminato in terra, è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che son sopra la terra; 
ma, dopo che è stato seminato, cresce, e si fa la maggiore di tutte l’erbe, e fa rami grandi, talchè gli uccelli del cielo possono ripararsi sotto l’ombra sua. 
E per molte tali parabole proponeva loro la parola, secondo che potevano udire. 
E non parlava loro senza similitudine; ma, in disparte, egli dichiarava ogni cosa a’ suoi discepoli 
OR in quello stesso giorno, fattosi sera, disse loro: Passiamo all’altra riva. 
E i discepoli, licenziata la moltitudine, lo raccolsero, così come egli era, nella navicella. Or vi erano delle altre navicelle con lui. 
Ed un gran turbo di vento si levò, e cacciava le onde dentro alla navicella, talchè quella già si empieva. 
Or egli era a poppa, dormendo sopra un guanciale. Ed essi lo destarono, e gli dissero: Maestro, non ti curi tu che noi periamo? 
Ed egli, destatosi, sgridò il vento, e disse al mare: Taci, e sta’ cheto. E il vento si acquetò, e si fece gran bonaccia. 
Poi disse loro: Perchè siete voi così timidi? come non avete voi fede? 
Ed essi temettero di gran timore, e dicevano gli uni agli altri: Chi è pur costui, cui il vento ed il mare ubbidiscono? 

And again he began to teach by the sea, and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he, having gone into the boat, sat in the sea, and all the multitude was near the sea, on the land, 
and he taught them many things in similes, and he said to them in his teaching: 
`Hearken, lo, the sower went forth to sow; 
and it came to pass, in the sowing, some fell by the way, and the fowls of the heaven did come and devour it; 
and other fell upon the rocky ground, where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang forth, because of not having depth of earth, 
and the sun having risen, it was scorched, and because of not having root it did wither; 
and other fell toward the thorns, and the thorns did come up, and choke it, and fruit it gave not; 
and other fell to the good ground, and was giving fruit, coming up and increasing, and it bare, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.` 
And he said to them, `He who is having ears to hear -- let him hear.` 
And when he was alone, those about him, with the twelve, did ask him of the simile, 
and he said to them, `To you it hath been given to know the secret of the reign of God, but to those who are without, in similes are all the things done; 
that seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest they may turn, and the sins may be forgiven them.` 
And he saith to them, `Have ye not known this simile? and how shall ye know all the similes? 
He who is sowing doth sow the word; 
and these are they by the way where the word is sown: and whenever they may hear, immediately cometh the Adversary, and he taketh away the word that hath been sown in their hearts. 
`And these are they, in like manner, who on the rocky ground are sown: who, whenever they may hear the word, immediately with joy do receive it, 
and have not root in themselves, but are temporary; afterward tribulation or persecution having come because of the word, immediately they are stumbled. 
`And these are they who toward the thorns are sown: these are they who are hearing the word, 
and the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, and the desires concerning the other things, entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 
`And these are they who on the good ground have been sown: who do hear the word, and receive, and do bear fruit, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.` 
And he said to them, `Doth the lamp come that under the measure it may be put, or under the couch -- not that it may be put on the lamp-stand? 
for there is not anything hid that may not be manifested, nor was anything kept hid but that it may come to light. 
If any hath ears to hear -- let him hear.` 
And he said to them, `Take heed what ye hear; in what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you; and to you who hear it shall be added; 
for whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever hath not, also that which he hath shall be taken from him.` 
And he said, `Thus is the reign of God: as if a man may cast the seed on the earth, 
and may sleep, and may rise night and day, and the seed spring up and grow, he hath not known how; 
for of itself doth the earth bear fruit, first a blade, afterwards an ear, afterwards full corn in the ear; 
and whenever the fruit may yield itself, immediately he doth send forth the sickle, because the harvest hath come.` 
And he said, `To what may we liken the reign of God, or in what simile may we compare it? 
As a grain of mustard, which, whenever it may be sown on the earth, is less than any of the seeds that are on the earth; 
and whenever it may be sown, it cometh up, and doth become greater than any of the herbs, and doth make great branches, so that under its shade the fowls of the heaven are able to rest.` 
And with many such similes he was speaking to them the word, as they were able to hear, 
and without a simile he was not speaking to them, and by themselves, to his disciples he was expounding all. 
And he saith to them on that day, evening having come, `We may pass over to the other side;` 
and having let away the multitude, they take him up as he was in the boat, and other little boats also were with him. 
And there cometh a great storm of wind, and the waves were beating on the boat, so that it is now being filled, 
and he himself was upon the stern, upon the pillow sleeping, and they wake him up, and say to him, `Teacher, art thou not caring that we perish?` 
And having waked up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, `Peace, be stilled;` and the wind did lull, and there was a great calm: 
and he said to them, `Why are ye so fearful? how have ye not faith?` 
and they feared a great fear, and said one to another, `Who, then, is this, that even the wind and the sea do obey him?`
