1 And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2 ([And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, each one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judaea unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and family of David)
5 to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
10 Then Pilate said unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to hang thee on a stake and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou could have no power [at all] against me, unless it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered me unto thee has the greater sin.
25 Conciliate with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out of there, until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
15 Behold, the nations [are] as a drop of a bucket and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he causes the isles to disappear as dust.
17 All the Gentiles [are] as nothing before him, and they are counted to him as vanity and [as] less than nothing.
1 Let every soul submit itself to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God, and the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God, and those that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves.
3 For the magistrates are not a terror unto those who do good, but to the [doer of] evil. Is thy desire therefore to not fear the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same;
4 for he is [a] minister of God for thy good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain, for he is [a] minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that does evil.
5 Therefore it is necessary that [ye] be subject, not only for punishment, but also for conscience sake.
6 For for this cause ye also pay [them] tribute, for they are God's ministers, attending continually to this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8 Owe no one anything, but love one unto another; for he that loves [his] neighbour has fulfilled the law.
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, those that received the two drachmas came to Peter and said, Does not your master pay the two drachmas?
25 He said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus spoke unto him first, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own sons or of strangers?
26 Peter said unto him, Of strangers. Jesus said unto him, Then the sons are free.
27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea and cast a hook and take up the first fish that comes up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a stater [a coin worth four drachmas]; take that, and give it unto them for me and thee.:
18 and ye shall even be brought before princes and kings for my sake, for testimony unto them and to the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak, for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
12 and have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed [your] good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Therefore, be subject to every human ordinance [that is] of the Lord, whether it be to a king or to a superior,
14 and unto governors as unto those that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those that do well.
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, Why tempt ye me, [ye] hypocrites?
19 Show me the coin of the tribute. And they presented unto him a denarius.
20 And he said unto them, Whose [is] this image and superscription?
21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then said he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's.
9 For a great and effectual door is opened unto me, and [there are] many adversaries.
