To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

1 To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of the sons of Korah.

2 \42:1\Like the desire of the roe for the water-streams, so is my soul's desire for you, O God.

3 \42:2\My soul is dry for need of God, the living God; when may I come and see the face of God?

4 \42:3\My tears have been my food day and night, while they keep saying to me, Where is your God?

5 \42:4\Let my soul be overflowing with grief when these things come back to my mind, how I went in company to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with the song of those who were keeping the feast.

6 \42:5\Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God.

7 \42:6\My soul is crushed down in me, so I will keep you in mind; from the land of Jordan and of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.

8 \42:7\Deep is sounding to deep at the noise of your waterfalls; all your waves have gone rolling over me.

9 \42:8\But the Lord will send his mercy in the daytime, and in the night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

10 \42:9\I will say to God my Rock, Why have you let me go from your memory? why do I go in sorrow because of the attacks of my haters?

11 \42:10\The cruel words of my haters are like a crushing of my bones; when they say to me every day, Where is your God?

12 \42:11\Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God.
