1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying, 4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people: 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house, 6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. 7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

8 And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD. 10 And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. 12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying, 13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us. 14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

15 And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me, 16 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read: 17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched. 18 But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard; 19 Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD. 20 Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

1 约西亚登基的时候只有八岁。他在耶路撒冷作王共三十一年。他母亲名叫耶底大， 是亚大雅的女儿， 来自波斯加。

2 他行耶和华看为正的事， 跟随他祖宗大卫所行的一切道路， 不偏左右。

3 约西亚在位第十八年， 王差派米书兰的孙子、亚萨利的儿子、书记沙番到耶和华的殿， 吩咐他说：

4 "你上去到希勒家大祭司那里， 叫他把献给耶和华殿的银子， 就是守门的从人民所收集的， 结算一下。

5 然后要他们把银子交到在耶和华殿管理工匠的人手中， 他们可以把银子交付在耶和华殿修补破坏的地方的工匠，

6 就是交给木匠、建筑工人、石匠， 又购买木材和凿好的石头， 用来修理圣殿破坏的地方。

7 银子交在他们手中， 不用和他们算帐， 因为他们办事诚实。"

8 希勒家大祭司对书记沙番说： "我在耶和华的殿里找到了一卷律法书。"他把书卷交给沙番； 沙番就阅读那书卷。

9 书记沙番来见王， 向王回报说： "你的臣仆已经把殿里的银子清点， 交在耶和华殿里管理工匠的人手中。"

10 书记沙番又告诉王说： "希勒家大祭司交给我一卷书卷。"书记沙番就在王面前诵读那书卷。

11 王听见律法书上的话的时候， 就撕裂自己的衣服。

12 王又吩咐希勒家祭司、沙番的儿子亚希甘、米该亚的儿子亚革博、书记沙番和王的臣仆及亚撒雅说：

13 "你们去， 为了我、为了人民、为了犹大全国， 因着所发现的这书卷上的话求问耶和华， 因为耶和华向我们所发的怒气极大； 这是因着我们的祖先没有听从这律法书上的话， 没有照着所有写给我们的去行。"

14 于是希勒家祭司、亚希甘、亚革博、沙番、亚撒雅去见女先知户勒大。她就是掌管礼服的沙龙的妻子， 沙龙是哈珥哈斯的孙子、特瓦的儿子。她住在耶路撒冷第二区； 他们就把事情都告诉了她。

15 她对他们说： "耶和华以色列的 神这样说： ‘告诉那差你们到我这里来的人说：

16 耶和华这样说： 看哪， 我要照着犹大王所念那书卷上所有的话， 使灾祸降临在这地方和它的居民身上，

17 因为他们背弃了我， 向别的神焚香。他们所行的一切都使我发怒， 因此我的怒火要在这地方燃点， 不会熄灭。

18 至于那差你们来求问耶和华的犹大王， 你们要这样对他说： 耶和华以色列的 神这样说： 有关你所听见的话，

19 你听见我攻击这地方和它的居民的话， 就是他们要成为荒凉， 受咒诅， 你的心就顺服， 在我面前谦卑， 又撕裂自己的衣服， 在我面前哀哭， 我已经听到了。这是耶和华的宣告。

20 因此， 看哪， 我要使你归到你的祖先那里， 你必平平安安地葬在你的坟墓里； 你不会看见我要降在这地的一切灾祸。’"他们就把这话向王回报。
