1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. 2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. 4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. 5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Beth-el, he and all the people that were with him. 7 And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother. 8 But Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Beth-el under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth.
9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-aram, and blessed him. 10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. 11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; 12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. 13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him. 14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon. 15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth-el.
16 And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. 17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. 18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin. 19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem. 20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.
21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar. 22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: 23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: 24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: 26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.
27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. 28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years. 29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
1 神对雅各说： "起来， 上伯特利去， 住在那里； 你要在那里筑一座坛给 神， 就是从前你逃避你哥哥以扫的时候， 向你显现的那一位。"
2 雅各就对他的家人， 和所有与他在一起的人说： "你们要除去你们中间外族人的神像， 你们要洁净自己， 更换你们的衣服。
3 我们要起程， 上伯特利去； 我要在那里给 神筑一座祭坛， 他就是在我遭患难的时候应允我的呼求， 在我所行的路上与我同行的那一位。"
4 他们就把自己手中所有外族人的神像， 和自己耳朵上的环子， 都交给雅各； 雅各把这些东西埋在示剑附近的橡树底下。
5 他们出发了， 神使周围的城市都非常惧怕， 他们就不追赶雅各的儿子。
6 于是雅各和与他在一起的人， 到了迦南地的路斯， 就是伯特利。
7 他在那里筑了一座坛， 就称那地方为伊勒．伯特利， 因为他逃避他哥哥的时候， 神曾经在那里向他显现。
8 利百加的乳母底波拉死了， 葬在伯特利下边的橡树底下， 所以给那棵树起名叫亚伦．巴古。
9 雅各从巴旦．亚兰回来以后， 神再次向他显现， 赐福给他。
10 神对他说： "你的名原是雅各， 但以后不要再叫雅各， 以色列才是你的名。"这样， 神给他改名叫以色列。
11 神对他说： "我是全能的 神， 你要繁殖增多， 必有一大国从你而生， 又必有很多君王从你而出。
12 我赐给亚伯拉罕和以撒的地， 我要赐给你， 我也要把这地赐给你的后裔。"
13 神从与雅各谈话的地方， 离开他上升去了。
14 雅各就在 神与他谈话的地方， 立了一根石柱； 在柱上浇了奠祭和油。
15 雅各给 神与他谈话的地方起名叫伯特利。
16 他们从伯特利起程， 离以法他还有一段路程的时候， 拉结产期到了； 但她遇到难产。
17 她正在极辛苦的时候， 接生婆对她说： "不要怕， 你这次又得了一个儿子。"
18 拉结快要死了， 正要断气的时候， 她给她儿子起名叫便．俄尼； 他的父亲却叫他便雅悯。
19 拉结死了， 葬在通往以法他的路旁。以法他就是伯利恒。
20 雅各在她的坟墓上立了一根柱子， 就是拉结的墓碑， 到今天还在。
21 以色列又起程前行， 在以得台那边支搭了帐棚。
22 以色列在那地居住的时候， 流本竟去与他父亲的妾辟拉同睡； 这事以色列也听见了。雅各共有十二个儿子。
23 利亚的儿子有： 雅各的长子流本， 以及西缅、利未、犹大、以萨迦和西布伦。
24 拉结的儿子有： 约瑟和便雅悯。
25 拉结的婢女辟拉的儿子有： 但和拿弗他利。
26 利亚的婢女悉帕的儿子有： 迦得和亚设。这些都是雅各在巴旦．亚兰所生的儿子。
27 雅各来到基列．亚巴的幔利他父亲以撒那里， 基列．亚巴就是希伯仑， 是亚伯拉罕和以撒寄居过的地方。
28 以撒一生的年日共一百八十岁。
29 以撒年纪老迈， 享尽天年， 就气绝而死， 归到他的亲族那里去了； 他儿子以扫和雅各把他葬了。
