1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4 Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: 5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? 7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. 9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them. 10 And the LORD’s anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, 11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: 12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. 13 And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed. 14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel. 15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: 17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, 21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, 22 And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. 23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth. 25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth. 26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead: 27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.
28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel: 29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession: 30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan. 31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do. 32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours. 33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.
34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, 35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, 36 And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fenced cities: and folds for sheep. 37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, 38 And Nebo, and Baal-meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded. 39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it. 40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein. 41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair. 42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
1 流本子孙和迦得子孙的牲畜极其众多； 他们看见雅谢地和基列地都是可牧放牲畜的地方，
2 就来对摩西和以利亚撒祭司， 以及会众的首领说：
3 "亚大录、底本、雅谢、宁拉、希实本、以利亚利、示班、尼波、比稳，
4 就是耶和华在以色列会众面前攻取的地， 是可牧放牲畜的地， 你仆人也有牲畜。"
5 他们又说： "如果我们在你眼前蒙恩， 求你把这地给你的仆人作产业， 不要叫我们过约旦河。"
6 摩西对迦得子孙和流本子孙说： "难道你们的兄弟去打仗， 你们却坐在这里吗？
7 你们为什么使以色列人灰心， 不过河到耶和华赐给他们的地那里去呢？
8 我从前从加低斯．巴尼亚派你们的先祖去窥探那地的时候， 他们也是这样行。
9 他们上到以实各谷， 看了那地， 就使以色列人灰心， 不进耶和华赐给他们的地那里去。
10 当日耶和华的怒气发作， 就起誓说：
11 ‘从埃及上来二十岁以上的人， 必不得看见我对亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓应许的地， 因为他们没有专心跟从我。
12 唯独基尼洗人耶孚尼的儿子迦勒， 和嫩的儿子约书亚可以看见， 因为他们专心跟从耶和华。’
13 耶和华的怒气向以色列人发作， 使他们在旷野飘流了四十年， 等到在耶和华眼前行恶的那一代都灭尽了。
14 现在， 你们这些罪人的族类， 也来接替你们的先祖， 增添耶和华对以色列的烈怒！
15 如果你们转离， 不跟从他， 他再要把以色列人撇在旷野， 这样， 你们就要把整个民族都毁灭了。"
16 两支派的人走到摩西跟前， 对他说： "我们要在这里给我们的牲畜筑羊圈， 给我们的孩子建城邑。
17 我们自己却要武装起来， 行在以色列人前头上阵， 直到把他们领到他们自己的地方， 但我们的孩子因为这地居民的缘故， 要住在坚固的城里。
18 我们决不回家， 直等到以色列人各自承受了产业。
19 我们不与他们在约旦河西边之地同受产业， 因为我们的产业是坐落在约旦河东边。"
20 摩西对他们说： "如果你们这样行， 在耶和华面前武装起来去作战，
21 你们所有武装起来的人， 都要在耶和华面前过约旦河， 直到他把他的仇敌从自己面前赶出去，
22 直到那地在耶和华面前被征服了， 然后才回家， 这样你们对耶和华和对以色列就算无罪， 这地也可以在耶和华面前归你们作产业。
23 如果你们不这样行， 就得罪了耶和华； 你们要知道你们的罪必追上你们。
24 现在你们只管照你们口中所出的话去行， 为你们的孩子建城， 为你们的羊群筑圈。"
25 迦得子孙和流本子孙告诉摩西： "你仆人必照着我主吩咐的去行。
26 我们的孩子、妻子、羊群和所有的牲畜， 都要留在基列的各城；
27 但你的仆人， 所有武装起来预备打仗的， 都要照着我主所说的， 在耶和华面前过去作战。"
28 于是， 摩西为了他们， 嘱咐以利亚撒祭司和嫩的儿子约书亚， 以及以色列众支派的族长，
29 对他们说： "迦得的子孙和流本的子孙， 所有武装起来， 在耶和华面前预备去作战的人， 如果与你们一同过约旦河， 那地在你们面前被征服了， 你们就要把基列地给他们作产业。
30 他们若是不武装起来， 与你们一同过去， 他们就要在迦南地在你们中间同得产业。"
31 迦得的子孙和流本的子孙回答， 说： "耶和华怎样吩咐仆人， 我们就怎样行。
32 我们要武装起来， 在耶和华面前过河， 到迦南地去； 只是约旦河这边的地方， 要归我们作产业。"
33 于是摩西把亚摩利王西宏的国， 和巴珊王噩的国， 连那地， 和境内城市， 以及那地周围的城市， 都给了迦得的子孙、流本的子孙和约瑟的儿子玛拿西的半个支派。
34 迦得的子孙修筑了底本、亚他录、亚罗珥、
35 亚他录．朔反、雅谢、约比哈、
36 伯．宁拉、伯．哈兰这些坚固的城市和羊圈。
37 流本的子孙修筑了希实本、以利亚利、基列亭、
38 尼波、巴力．免（以上的名字是改了的）、西比玛； 又为他们修筑的城市起了别的名字。
39 玛拿西的儿子玛吉的子孙到基列去， 攻取了那地， 把住在那里的亚摩利人赶走。
40 摩西把基列给了玛拿西的儿子玛吉， 玛吉就住在那里。
41 玛拿西的儿子睚珥， 去攻取了亚摩利人的村庄， 就把这些村庄叫作哈倭特．睚珥。
42 挪巴去攻取了基纳和基纳的小村镇， 就用自己的名字叫基纳为挪巴。
