1 And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it. 2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city. 3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued. 5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the giant. 7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him. 8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

1 L'année suivante, au temps où les rois se mettaient en campagne, Joab, à la tête d'une forte armée, alla ravager le pays des fils d'Ammon et assiéger Rabba. Mais David resta à Jérusalem. Joab battit Rabba et la détruisit.

2 David enleva la couronne de dessus la tête de son roi, et la trouva du poids d'un talent d'or: elle était garnie de pierres précieuses. On la mit sur la tête de David, qui emporta de la ville un très grand butin.

3 Il fit sortir les habitants, et il les mit en pièces avec des scies, des herses de fer et des haches; il traita de même toutes les villes des fils d'Ammon. David retourna à Jérusalem avec tout le peuple.

4 Après cela, il y eut une bataille à Guézer avec les Philistins. Alors Sibbecaï, le Huschatite, tua Sippaï, l'un des enfants de Rapha. Et les Philistins furent humiliés.

5 Il y eut encore une bataille avec les Philistins. Et Elchanan, fils de Jaïr, tua le frère de Goliath, Lachmi de Gath, qui avait une lance dont le bois était comme une ensouple de tisserand.

6 Il y eut encore une bataille à Gath. Il s'y trouva un homme de haute taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main et à chaque pied, vingt-quatre en tout, et qui était aussi issu de Rapha.

7 Il jeta un défi à Israël; et Jonathan, fils de Schimea, frère de David, le tua.

8 Ces hommes étaient des enfants de Rapha à Gath. Ils périrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.

1 Or avvenne che l’anno seguente nel tempo in cui i re sogliono andare alla guerra, Joab, alla testa di un poderoso esercito, andò a devastare il paese dei figliuoli di Ammon e ad assediare Rabba; ma Davide rimase a Gerusalemme. E Joab batté Rabba e la distrusse.

2 E Davide tolse dalla testa del loro re la corona, e trovò che pesava un talento d’oro e che avea delle pietre preziose; ed essa fu posta sulla testa di Davide. Egli riportò anche dalla città grandissima preda.

3 Fece uscire gli abitanti ch’erano nella città, e li fece a pezzi con delle seghe, degli erpici di ferro e delle scuri. Così fece Davide a tutte le città dei figliuoli di Ammon. Poi Davide se ne tornò a Gerusalemme con tutto il popolo.

4 Dopo queste cose, ci fu una battaglia coi Filistei, a Ghezer; allora Sibbecai di Hushah uccise Sippai, uno dei discendenti di Rafa; e i Filistei furono umiliati.

5 Ci fu un’altra battaglia coi Filistei; ed Elhanan, figliuolo di Jair, uccise Lahmi, fratello di Goliath di ath, di cui l’asta della lancia era come un subbio da tessitore.

6 Ci fu ancora una battaglia a Gath, dove si trovò un uomo di grande statura, che avea sei dita a ciascuna mano e a ciascun piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita, e che era anch’esso dei discendenti di Rafa.

7 Egli ingiuriò Israele; e Gionathan, figliuolo di Scimea, fratello di Davide, l’uccise.

8 Questi quattro uomini erano nati a Gath, della stirpe di Rafa. Essi perirono per man di Davide e per mano della sua gente.
