1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. 2 Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father. 4 Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem: 5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 6 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. 7 Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 8 And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead.

9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. 10 And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. 14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days. 15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.

16 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, 19 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. 20 So Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali. 21 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah. 22 Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah. 23 The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet. 24 And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.

25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years. 26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 28 Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead. 29 And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite: 30 Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.

31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 32 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years. 34 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

3 Il se livra à tous les péchés que son père avait commis avant lui; et son coeur ne fut point tout entier à l'Eternel, son Dieu, comme l'avait été le coeur de David, son père.

4 Mais à cause de David, l'Eternel, son Dieu, lui donna une lampe à Jérusalem, en établissant son fils après lui et en laissant subsister Jérusalem.

5 Car David avait fait ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, et il ne s'était détourné d'aucun de ses commandements pendant toute sa vie, excepté dans l'affaire d'Urie, le Héthien.

6 Il y eut guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam, tant que vécut Roboam.

7 Le reste des actions d'Abijam, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda? Il y eut guerre entre Abijam et Jéroboam.

8 Abijam se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la ville de David. Et Asa, son fils, régna à sa place.

9 La vingtième année de Jéroboam, roi d'Israël, Asa régna sur Juda.

10 Il régna quarante et un ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Maaca, fille d'Abisalom.

11 Asa fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, comme David, son père.

12 Il ôta du pays les prostitués, et il fit disparaître toutes les idoles que ses pères avaient faites.

13 Et même il enleva la dignité de reine à Maaca, sa mère, parce qu'elle avait fait une idole pour Astarté. Asa abattit son idole, et la brûla au torrent de Cédron.

14 Mais les hauts lieux ne disparurent point, quoique le coeur d'Asa fût en entier à l'Eternel pendant toute sa vie.

15 Il mit dans la maison de l'Eternel les choses consacrées par son père et par lui-même, de l'argent, de l'or et des vases.

16 Il y eut guerre entre Asa et Baescha, roi d'Israël, pendant toute leur vie.

17 Baescha, roi d'Israël, monta contre Juda; et il bâtit Rama, pour empêcher ceux d'Asa, roi de Juda, de sortir et d'entrer.

18 Asa prit tout l'argent et tout l'or qui étaient restés dans les trésors de la maison de l'Eternel et les trésors de la maison du roi, et il les mit entre les mains de ses serviteurs qu'il envoya vers Ben-Hadad, fils de Thabrimmon, fils de Hezjon, roi de Syrie, qui habitait à Damas. Le roi Asa lui fit dire:

19 Qu'il y ait une alliance entre moi et toi, comme il y en eut une entre mon père et ton père. Voici, je t'envoie un présent en argent et en or. Va, romps ton alliance avec Baescha, roi d'Israël, afin qu'il s'éloigne de moi.

20 Ben-Hadad écouta le roi Asa; il envoya les chefs de son armée contre les villes d'Israël, et il battit Ijjon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maaca, tout Kinneroth, et tout le pays de Nephthali.

21 Lorsque Baescha l'apprit, il cessa de bâtir Rama, et il resta à Thirtsa.

22 Le roi Asa convoqua tout Juda, sans exempter personne, et ils emportèrent les pierres et le bois que Baescha employait à la construction de Rama; et le roi Asa s'en servit pour bâtir Guéba de Benjamin et Mitspa.

23 Le reste de toutes les actions d'Asa, tous ses exploits et tout ce qu'il a fait, et les villes qu'il a bâties, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda? Toutefois, à l'époque de sa vieillesse, il eut les pieds malades.

24 Asa se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David, son père. Et Josaphat, son fils, régna à sa place.

25 Nadab, fils de Jéroboam, régna sur Israël, la seconde année d'Asa, roi de Juda. Il régna deux ans sur Israël.

26 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel; et il marcha dans la voie de son père, se livrant aux péchés que son père avait fait commettre à Israël.

27 Baescha, fils d'Achija, de la maison d'Issacar, conspira contre lui, et Baescha le tua à Guibbethon, qui appartenait aux Philistins, pendant que Nadab et tout Israël assiégeaient Guibbethon.

28 Baescha le fit périr la troisième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, et il régna à sa place.

29 Lorsqu'il fut roi, il frappa toute la maison de Jéroboam, il n'en laissa échapper personne et il détruisit tout ce qui respirait, selon la parole que l'Eternel avait dite par son serviteur Achija de Silo,

30 cause des péchés que Jéroboam avait commis et qu'il avait fait commettre à Israël, irritant ainsi l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

32 Il y eut guerre entre Asa et Baescha, roi d'Israël, pendant toute leur vie.

33 La troisième année d'Asa, roi de Juda, Baescha, fils d'Achija, régna sur tout Israël à Thirtsa. Il régna vingt-quatre ans.

34 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, et il marcha dans la voie de Jéroboam, se livrant aux péchés que Jéroboam avait fait commettre à Israël.

5 perché Davide avea fatto ciò ch’è giusto agli occhi dell’Eterno, e non si era scostato in nulla dai suoi comandamenti per tutto il tempo della sua vita, salvo nel fatto di Uria, lo Hitteo.

6 Or fra Roboamo e Geroboamo vi fu guerra, finché Roboamo visse.

8 E Abijam s’addormentò coi suoi padri, e fu sepolto nella città di Davide; ed Asa, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

9 L’anno ventesimo del regno di Geroboamo, re d’Israele, Asa cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda.

10 Regnò quarantun anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figliuola d’Abishalom.

11 Asa fece ciò ch’è giusto agli occhi dell’Eterno, come avea fatto Davide suo padre,

12 tolse via dal paese quelli che si prostituivano, fece sparire tutti gl’idoli che i suoi padri aveano fatti,

13 e destituì pure dalla dignità di regina sua madre Maaca, perch’essa avea rizzato un’immagine ad starte; Asa abbatté l’immagine, e la bruciò presso al torrente Kidron.

14 Nondimeno, gli alti luoghi non furono eliminati; quantunque il cuore d’Asa fosse tutto quanto per l’Eterno, durante l’intera sua vita.

15 Egli fece portare nella casa dell’Eterno le cose che suo padre avea consacrate, e quelle che avea consacrate egli stesso: argento, oro, vasi.

16 E ci fu guerra fra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della lor vita.

17 Baasa, re d’Israele, salì contro Giuda, ed edificò Rama, per impedire che alcuno andasse e venisse dalla parte di Asa, re di Giuda.

18 Allora Asa prese tutto l’argento e l’oro ch’era rimasto nei tesori della casa dell’Eterno, prese i tesori della casa del re, e mise tutto in mano dei suoi servi, che mandò a Ben-Hadad, figliuolo di Tabrimmon, figliuolo di Hezion, re di Siria, che abitava a Damasco, per dirgli:

19 "Siavi alleanza fra me e te, come vi fu fra il padre mio e il padre tuo. Ecco, io ti mando in dono dell’argento e dell’oro; va’, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasa, re d’Israele, ond’egli si ritiri da me".

20 Ben-Hadad diè ascolto al re Asa; mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d’Israele ed espugnò jon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maaca, tutta la contrada di Kinneroth con tutto il paese di Neftali.

21 E quando Baasa ebbe udito questo, cessò di edificare Rama, e rimase a Tirtsa.

22 Allora il re Asa convocò tutti que’ di Giuda, senza eccettuarne alcuno; e quelli portaron via le pietre e il legname di cui Baasa s’era servito per la costruzione di Rama; e con essi il re Asa edificò Gheba di Beniamino, e Mitspa.

23 Il resto di tutte le azioni di Asa, tutte le sue prodezze, tutto quello ch’ei fece e le città che edificò, si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. Ma, nella sua vecchiaia, egli patì di male ai piedi.

24 E Asa si addormentò coi suoi padri, e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide, suo padre; e Giosafat, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

25 Nadab, figliuolo di Geroboamo, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele il secondo anno di Asa, re di Giuda; regnò sopra Israele due anni.

26 E fece ciò ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno, e seguì le tracce di suo padre e il peccato nel quale aveva indotto Israele.

27 Baasa, figliuolo di Ahija, della casa d’Issacar, cospirò contro di lui, e lo uccise a Ghibbethon, che apparteneva ai Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavano Ghibbethon.

28 Baasa l’uccise l’anno terzo di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò in luogo suo.

29 E, non appena fu re, sterminò tutta la casa di Geroboamo; non risparmiò anima viva di quella casa, ma la distrusse interamente, secondo la parola che l’Eterno avea pronunziata, per bocca del suo servo Ahija lo Scilonita,

30 a motivo de’ peccati che Geroboamo avea commessi e fatti commettere a Israele, quando avea provocato ad ira l’Iddio d’Israele.

32 E ci fu guerra fra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della loro vita.

33 L’anno terzo di Asa, re di Giuda, Baasa, figliuolo di Ahija, cominciò a regnare su tutto Israele. Stava a irtsa, e regnò ventiquattro anni.

34 Fece quel ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno; e seguì le vie di Geroboamo e il peccato che questi avea fatto commettere a Israele.
