1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck, 3 And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah; 4 And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters; 5 I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me. 6 And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him. 7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him. 8 And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. 9 Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: 10 For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish. 11 But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.

12 I spake also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live. 13 Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon? 14 Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you. 15 For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you. 16 Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’s house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you. 17 Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city be laid waste? 18 But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.

19 For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city, 20 Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem; 21 Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem; 22 They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.

2 Ainsi m'a parlé l'Eternel: Fais-toi des liens et des jougs, et mets-les sur ton cou.

3 Envoie-les au roi d'Edom, au roi de Moab, au roi des enfants d'Ammon, au roi de Tyr et au roi de Sidon, par les envoyés qui sont venus à Jérusalem auprès de Sédécias, roi de Juda,

4 et à qui tu donneras mes ordres pour leurs maîtres, en disant: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici ce que vous direz à vos maîtres:

5 C'est moi qui ai fait la terre, les hommes et les animaux qui sont sur la terre, par ma grande puissance et par mon bras étendu, et je donne la terre à qui cela me plaît.

6 Maintenant je livre tous ces pays entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, mon serviteur; je lui donne aussi les animaux des champs, pour qu'ils lui soient assujettis.

7 Toutes les nations lui seront soumises, à lui, à son fils, et au fils de son fils, jusqu'à ce que le temps de son pays arrive, et que des nations puissantes et de grands rois l'asservissent.

8 Si une nation, si un royaume ne se soumet pas à lui, à Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, et ne livre pas son cou au joug du roi de Babylone, je châtierai cette nation par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste, dit l'Eternel, jusqu'à ce que je l'aie anéantie par sa main.

9 Et vous, n'écoutez pas vos prophètes, vos devins, vos songeurs, vos astrologues, vos magiciens, qui vous disent: Vous ne serez point asservis au roi de Babylone!

10 Car c'est le mensonge qu'ils vous prophétisent, afin que vous soyez éloignés de votre pays, afin que je vous chasse et que vous périssiez.

11 Mais la nation qui pliera son cou sous le joug du roi de Babylone, et qui lui sera soumise, je la laisserai dans son pays, dit l'Eternel, pour qu'elle le cultive et qu'elle y demeure.

12 J'ai dit entièrement les mêmes choses à Sédécias, roi de Juda: Pliez votre cou sous le joug du roi de Babylone, soumettez-vous à lui et à son peuple, et vous vivrez.

13 Pourquoi mourriez-vous, toi et ton peuple, par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste, comme l'Eternel l'a prononcé sur la nation qui ne se soumettra pas au roi de Babylone?

14 N'écoutez pas les paroles des prophètes qui vous disent: Vous ne serez point asservis au roi de Babylone! Car c'est le mensonge qu'ils vous prophétisent.

15 Je ne les ai point envoyés, dit l'Eternel, et ils prophétisent le mensonge en mon nom, afin que je vous chasse et que vous périssiez, vous et les prophètes qui vous prophétisent.

16 J'ai dit aux sacrificateurs et à tout ce peuple: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: N'écoutez pas les paroles de vos prophètes qui vous prophétisent, disant: Voici, les ustensiles de la maison de l'Eternel seront bientôt rapportés de Babylone! Car c'est le mensonge qu'ils vous prophétisent.

17 Ne les écoutez pas, soumettez-vous au roi de Babylone, et vous vivrez. Pourquoi cette ville deviendrait-elle une ruine?

18 S'ils sont prophètes et si la parole de l'Eternel est avec eux, qu'ils intercèdent auprès de l'Eternel des armées pour que les ustensiles qui restent dans la maison de l'Eternel, dans la maison du roi de Juda, et dans Jérusalem, ne s'en aillent point à Babylone.

19 Car ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées au sujet des colonnes, de la mer, des bases, et des autres ustensiles qui sont restés dans cette ville,

20 qui n'ont pas été enlevés par Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, lorsqu'il emmena captifs de Jérusalem à Babylone Jeconia, fils de Jojakim, roi de Juda, et tous les grands de Juda et de Jérusalem,

21 ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet des ustensiles qui restent dans la maison de l'Eternel, dans la maison du roi de Juda, et dans Jérusalem:

22 Ils seront emportés à Babylone, et ils y resteront jusqu'au jour où je les chercherai, dit l'Eternel, où je les ferai remonter et revenir dans ce lieu.

7 E tutte le nazioni saranno soggette a lui, al suo figliuolo e al figliuolo del suo figliuolo, finché giunga il tempo anche pel suo paese; e allora molte nazioni e grandi re lo ridurranno in servitù.

8 E avverrà che la nazione o il regno che non vorrà sottomettersi a lui, a Nebucadnetsar re di Babilonia, e non vorrà piegare il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, quella nazione io la punirò, dice l’Eterno, con la spada, con la fame, con la peste, finché io non l’abbia sterminata per mano di lui.

9 Voi dunque non ascoltate i vostri profeti, né i vostri indovini, né i vostri sognatori, né i vostri pronosticatori, né vostri maghi che vi dicono: Non sarete asserviti al re di Babilonia!

10 Poiché essi vi profetizzano menzogna, per allontanarvi dal vostro paese perché io vi scacci e voi eriate.

11 Ma la nazione che piegherà il suo collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia e gli sarà soggetta, io la lascerò stare nel suo paese, dice l’Eterno; ed essa lo coltiverà e vi dimorerà".

12 Io parlai dunque a Sedekia, re di Giuda, in conformità di tutte queste parole, e dissi: "Piegate il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, sottomettetevi a lui e al suo popolo, e vivrete.

13 Perché morreste, tu e il tuo popolo, per la spada, per la fame e per la peste, come l’Eterno ha detto della nazione che non si assoggetterà al re di Babilonia?

14 E non date ascolto alle parole de’ profeti che vi dicono: Non sarete asserviti al re di Babilonia! perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

15 Poiché io non li ho mandati, dice l’Eterno; ma profetizzano falsamente nel mio nome, perché io vi scacci, e voi periate: voi e i profeti che vi profetizzano".

16 Parlai pure ai sacerdoti e a tutto questo popolo, e dissi: "Così parla l’Eterno: Non date ascolto alle parole dei vostro profeti i quali vi profetizzano, dicendo: Ecco, gli arredi della casa dell’Eterno saranno in breve riportati da Babilonia, perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

17 Non date loro ascolto; sottomettetevi al re di Babilonia, e vivrete. Perché questa città sarebb’ella ridotta una desolazione?

18 Se sono profeti, e se la parola dell’Eterno è con loro, intercedano ora presso l’Eterno degli eserciti perché gli arredi che son rimasti nella casa dell’Eterno, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme non vadano a Babilonia.

19 Perché così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti riguardo alle colonne, al mare, alle basi e al resto degli arredi rimasti in questa città,

20 e che non furon presi da Nebucadnetsar, re di Babilonia quando menò in cattività da Gerusalemme in abilonia, Jeconia, figliuolo di Joiakim, re di Giuda, e tutti i nobili di Giuda e di Gerusalemme;

21 così, dico, parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele, riguardo agli arredi che rimangono nella casa dell’Eterno, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme:

22 saranno portati a Babilonia, e quivi resteranno, finché io li cercherò, dice l’Eterno, e li farò risalire e ritornare in questo luogo".
