1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. 2 Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. 3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. 4 Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry. 5 Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things. 6 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God. 7 For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither. 9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

10 Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. 11 For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. 12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. 14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.

15 Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. 16 Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. 17 And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. 19 Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth. 20 Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD. 21 Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.

22 How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man. 23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD bless thee, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness. 24 And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks. 25 For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. 26 Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

27 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. 28 And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the LORD. 29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. 30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: 36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. 37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.

38 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner. 39 And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. 40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.

1 En ce temps-là, dit l'Eternel, Je serai le Dieu de toutes les familles d'Israël, Et ils seront mon peuple.

2 Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Il a trouvé grâce dans le désert, Le peuple de ceux qui ont échappé au glaive; Israël marche vers son lieu de repos.

3 De loin l'Eternel se montre à moi: Je t'aime d'un amour éternel; C'est pourquoi je te conserve ma bonté.

4 Je te rétablirai encore, et tu seras rétablie, Vierge d'Israël! Tu auras encore tes tambourins pour parure, Et tu sortiras au milieu des danses joyeuses.

5 Tu planteras encore des vignes sur les montagnes de Samarie; Les planteurs planteront, et cueilleront les fruits.

6 Car le jour vient où les gardes crieront sur la montagne d'Ephraïm: Levez-vous, montons à Sion, vers l'Eternel, notre Dieu!

7 Car ainsi parle l'Eternel: Poussez des cris de joie sur Jacob, Eclatez d'allégresse à la tête des nations! Elevez vos voix, chantez des louanges, et dites: Eternel, délivre ton peuple, le reste d'Israël!

8 Voici, je les ramène du pays du septentrion, Je les rassemble des extrémités de la terre; Parmi eux sont l'aveugle et le boiteux, La femme enceinte et celle en travail; C'est une grande multitude, qui revient ici.

9 Ils viennent en pleurant, et je les conduis au milieu de leurs supplications; Je les mène vers des torrents d'eau, Par un chemin uni où ils ne chancellent pas; Car je suis un père pour Israël, Et Ephraïm est mon premier-né.

10 Nations, écoutez la parole de l'Eternel, Et publiez-la dans les îles lointaines! Dites: Celui qui a dispersé Israël le rassemblera, Et il le gardera comme le berger garde son troupeau.

11 Car l'Eternel rachète Jacob, Il le délivre de la main d'un plus fort que lui.

12 Ils viendront, et pousseront des cris de joie sur les hauteurs de Sion; Ils accourront vers les biens de l'Eternel, Le blé, le moût, l'huile, Les brebis et les boeufs; Leur âme sera comme un jardin arrosé, Et ils ne seront plus dans la souffrance.

13 Alors les jeunes filles se réjouiront à la danse, Les jeunes hommes et les vieillards se réjouiront aussi; Je changerai leur deuil en allégresse, et je les consolerai; Je leur donnerai de la joie après leurs chagrins.

14 Je rassasierai de graisse l'âme des sacrificateurs, Et mon peuple se rassasiera de mes biens, dit l'Eternel.

15 Ainsi parle l'Eternel: On entend des cris à Rama, Des lamentations, des larmes amères; Rachel pleure ses enfants; Elle refuse d'être consolée sur ses enfants, Car ils ne sont plus.

16 Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Retiens tes pleurs, Retiens les larmes de tes yeux; Car il y aura un salaire pour tes oeuvres, dit l'Eternel; Ils reviendront du pays de l'ennemi.

17 Il y a de l'espérance pour ton avenir, dit l'Eternel; Tes enfants reviendront dans leur territoire.

18 J'entends Ephraïm qui se lamente: Tu m'as châtié, et j'ai été châtié Comme un veau qui n'est pas dompté; Fais-moi revenir, et je reviendrai, Car tu es l'Eternel, mon Dieu.

19 Après m'être détourné, j'éprouve du repentir; Et après avoir reconnu mes fautes, je frappe sur ma cuisse; Je suis honteux et confus, Car je porte l'opprobre de ma jeunesse. -

20 Ephraïm est-il donc pour moi un fils chéri, Un enfant qui fait mes délices? Car plus je parle de lui, plus encore son souvenir est en moi; Aussi mes entrailles sont émues en sa faveur: J'aurai pitié de lui, dit l'Eternel. -

21 Dresse des signes, place des poteaux, Prends garde à la route, au chemin que tu as suivi... Reviens, vierge d'Israël, Reviens dans ces villes qui sont à toi!

22 Jusques à quand seras-tu errante, Fille égarée? Car l'Eternel crée une chose nouvelle sur la terre: La femme recherchera l'homme.

23 Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici encore ce que l'on dira dans le pays de Juda et dans ses villes, Quand j'aurai ramené leurs captifs: Que l'Eternel te bénisse, demeure de la justice, Montagne sainte!

24 Là s'établiront Juda et toutes ses villes, Les laboureurs et ceux qui conduisent les troupeaux.

25 Car je rafraîchirai l'âme altérée, Et je rassasierai toute âme languissante.

26 Là-dessus je me suis réveillé, et j'ai regardé; Mon sommeil m'avait été agréable.

27 Voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où j'ensemencerai la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda D'une semence d'hommes et d'une semence de bêtes.

28 Et comme j'ai veillé sur eux Pour arracher, abattre, détruire, ruiner et faire du mal, Ainsi je veillerai sur eux pour bâtir et pour planter, Dit l'Eternel.

29 En ces jours-là, on ne dira plus: Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts, Et les dents des enfants en ont été agacées.

30 Mais chacun mourra pour sa propre iniquité; Tout homme qui mangera des raisins verts, Ses dents en seront agacées.

31 Voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où je ferai avec la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda Une alliance nouvelle,

32 Non comme l'alliance que je traitai avec leurs pères, Le jour où je les saisis par la main Pour les faire sortir du pays d'Egypte, Alliance qu'ils ont violée, Quoique je fusse leur maître, dit l'Eternel.

33 Mais voici l'alliance que je ferai avec la maison d'Israël, Après ces jours-là, dit l'Eternel: Je mettrai ma loi au dedans d'eux, Je l'écrirai dans leur coeur; Et je serai leur Dieu, Et ils seront mon peuple.

34 Celui-ci n'enseignera plus son prochain, Ni celui-là son frère, en disant: Connaissez l'Eternel! Car tous me connaîtront, Depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, dit l'Eternel; Car je pardonnerai leur iniquité, Et je ne me souviendrai plus de leur péché.

35 Ainsi parle l'Eternel, qui a fait le soleil pour éclairer le jour, Qui a destiné la lune et les étoiles à éclairer la nuit, Qui soulève la mer et fait mugir ses flots, Lui dont le nom est l'Eternel des armées:

36 Si ces lois viennent à cesser devant moi, dit l'Eternel, La race d'Israël aussi cessera pour toujours d'être une nation devant moi.

37 Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Si les cieux en haut peuvent être mesurés, Si les fondements de la terre en bas peuvent être sondés, Alors je rejetterai toute la race d'Israël, A cause de tout ce qu'ils ont fait, dit l'Eternel.

38 Voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où la ville sera rebâtie à l'honneur de l'Eternel, Depuis la tour de Hananeel jusqu'à la porte de l'angle.

39 Le cordeau s'étendra encore vis-à-vis, Jusqu'à la colline de Gareb, Et fera un circuit du côté de Goath.

40 Toute la vallée des cadavres et de la cendre, Et tous les champs jusqu'au torrent de Cédron, Jusqu'à l'angle de la porte des chevaux à l'orient, Seront consacrés à l'Eternel, Et ne seront plus à jamais ni renversés ni détruits.

1 In quel tempo, dice l’Eterno, io sarò l’Iddio di tutte le famiglie d’Israele, ed esse saranno il mio popolo.

2 Così parla l’Eterno: Il popolo scampato dalla spada ha trovato grazia nel deserto; io sto per dar riposo a sraele.

3 Da tempi lontani l’Eterno m’è apparso. "Sì, io t’amo d’un amore eterno; perciò ti prolungo la mia bontà.

4 Io ti riedificherò, e tu sarai riedificata, o vergine d’Israele! Tu sarai di nuovo adorna de’ tuoi tamburelli, e uscirai in mezzo alle danze di quei che si rallegrano.

5 Pianterai ancora delle vigne sui monti di Samaria; i piantatori pianteranno e raccoglieranno il frutto.

6 Poiché il giorno verrà, quando le guardie grideranno sul monte d’Efraim: Levatevi, saliamo a Sion, all’Eterno ch’è il nostro Dio".

7 Poiché così parla l’Eterno: Levate canti di gioia per Giacobbe, date in gridi, per il capo delle nazioni; ate dire delle laudi, e dite: "O Eterno, salva il tuo popolo, il residuo d’Israele!"

8 Ecco, io li riconduco dal paese del settentrione, e li raccolgo dalle estremità della terra; fra loro sono il cieco e lo zoppo, la donna incinta e quella in doglie di parto: una gran moltitudine, che ritorna qua.

9 Vengono piangenti; li conduco supplichevoli; li meno ai torrenti d’acqua, per una via diritta dove non inciamperanno; perché son diventato un padre per Israele, ed Efraim è il mio primogenito.

10 O nazioni, ascoltate la parola dell’Eterno, e proclamatela alle isole lontane, e dite: "Colui che ha disperso Israele lo raccoglie, e lo custodisce come un pastore il suo gregge".

11 Poiché l’Eterno ha riscattato Giacobbe, l’ha redento della mano d’uno più forte di lui.

12 E quelli verranno e canteranno di gioia sulle alture di Sion, e affluiranno verso i beni dell’Eterno: al frumento, al vino, all’olio, al frutto de’ greggi e degli armenti; e l’anima loro sarà come un giardino annaffiato, e non continueranno più a languire.

13 Allora la vergine si rallegrerà nella danza, i giovani gioiranno insieme ai vecchi; io muterò il loro lutto in gioia, li consolerò, li rallegrerò liberandoli del loro dolore.

14 Satollerò di grasso l’anima de’ sacerdoti, ed il mio popolo sarà saziato dei miei beni, dice l’Eterno.

15 Così parla l’Eterno: S’è udita una voce in Rama, un lamento, un pianto amaro; Rachele piange i suoi figliuoli; ella rifiuta d’esser consolata de’ suoi figliuoli, perché non sono più.

16 Così parla l’Eterno: Trattieni la tua voce dal piangere, i tuoi occhi dal versar lagrime; poiché l’opera tua sarà ricompensata, dice l’Eterno: essi ritorneranno dal paese del nemico;

17 e v’è speranza per il tuo avvenire, dice l’Eterno; i tuoi figliuoli ritorneranno nelle loro frontiere.

18 Io odo, odo Efraim che si rammarica: "Tu m’hai castigato, e io sono stato castigato, come un giovenco non domato; convertimi, e io mi convertirò, giacché tu sei l’Eterno, il mio Dio.

19 Dopo che mi sono sviato, io mi son pentito; e dopo che ho riconosciuto il mio stato, mi son battuto l’anca; io son coperto di vergogna, confuso, perché porto l’obbrobrio della mia giovinezza".

20 Efraim è egli dunque per me un figliuolo sì caro? un figliuolo prediletto? Dacché io parlo contro di lui, è più vivo e continuo il ricordo che ho di esso; perciò le mie viscere si commuovono per lui, ed io certo ne avrò pietà, dice l’Eterno.

21 Rizza delle pietre miliari, fatti de’ pali indicatori, poni ben mente alla strada, alla via che hai seguìta. Ritorna, o vergine d’Israele, torna a queste città che son tue!

22 Fino a quando n’andrai tu vagabonda, o figliuola infedele? Poiché l’Eterno crea una cosa nuova sulla terra: la donna che corteggia l’uomo.

23 Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Ancora si dirà questa parola nel paese di Giuda e nelle sue città, quando li avrò fatti tornare dalla cattività: "L’Eterno ti benedica, o dimora di giustizia, o monte di santità!"

24 Là si stabiliranno assieme Giuda e tutte le sue città: gli agricoltori e quei che menano i greggi.

25 Poiché io ristorerò l’anima stanca, e sazierò ogni anima languente.

26 A questo punto mi sono svegliato e ho guardato; e il mio sonno m’è stato dolce.

27 Ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l’Eterno, ch’io seminerò la casa d’Israele e la casa di Giuda di semenza d’uomini e di semenza d’animali.

28 E avverrà che, come ho vegliato su loro per svellere e per demolire, per rovesciare, per distruggere e per nuocere, così veglierò su loro per edificare e per piantare, dice l’Eterno.

29 In quei giorni non si dirà più: "I padri han mangiato l’agresto, e i denti de’ figliuoli si sono allegati,"

30 ma ognuno morrà per la propria iniquità: chiunque mangerà l’agresto ne avrà i denti allegati.

31 Ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l’Eterno, che io farò un nuovo patto con la casa d’Israele e con la casa di iuda;

32 non come il patto che fermai coi loro padri il giorno che li presi per mano per trarli fuori dal paese d’Egitto: patto ch’essi violarono, benché io fossi loro signore, dice l’Eterno;

33 ma questo è il patto che farò con la casa d’Israele, dopo quei giorni, dice l’Eterno: io metterò la mia legge nell’intimo loro, la scriverò sul loro cuore, e io sarò loro Dio, ed essi saranno mio popolo.

34 E non insegneranno più ciascuno il suo compagno e ciascuno il suo fratello, dicendo: "Conoscete l’Eterno!" poiché tutti mi conosceranno, dal più piccolo al più grande, dice l’Eterno. Poiché io perdonerò la loro iniquità, e non mi ricorderò più del loro peccato.

35 Così parla l’Eterno, che ha dato il sole come luce del giorno, e le leggi alla luna e alle stelle perché sian luce alla notte; che solleva il mare sì che ne muggon le onde; colui che ha nome: l’Eterno degli eserciti.

36 Se quelle leggi vengono a mancare dinanzi a me, dice l’Eterno, allora anche la progenie d’Israele cesserà d’essere in perpetuo una nazione nel mio cospetto.

37 Così parla l’Eterno: Se i cieli di sopra possono esser misurati, e le fondamenta della terra di sotto, scandagliate, allora anch’io rigetterò tutta la progenie d’Israele per tutto quello ch’essi hanno fatto, dice l’Eterno.

38 Ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l’Eterno, che questa città sarà riedificata in onore dell’Eterno, dalla torre di Hananeel alla porta dell’angolo.

39 E di là la corda per misurare sarà tirata in linea retta fino al colle di Gareb, e girerà dal lato di Goah.

40 E tutta la valle de’ cadaveri e delle ceneri e tutti i campi fino al torrente di Kidron, fino all’angolo della porta de’ cavalli verso oriente, saranno consacrati all’Eterno, e non saranno più sconvolti né distrutti in perpetuo.
