1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. 2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. 11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, 12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. 13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? 14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

1 Car le royaume des cieux est semblable à un maître de maison qui sortit dès le matin, afin de louer des ouvriers pour sa vigne.

2 Il convint avec eux d'un denier par jour, et il les envoya à sa vigne.

3 Il sortit vers la troisième heure, et il en vit d'autres qui étaient sur la place sans rien faire.

4 Il leur dit: Allez aussi à ma vigne, et je vous donnerai ce qui sera raisonnable. Et ils y allèrent.

5 Il sortit de nouveau vers la sixième heure et vers la neuvième, et il fit de même.

6 Etant sorti vers la onzième heure, il en trouva d'autres qui étaient sur la place, et il leur dit: Pourquoi vous tenez-vous ici toute la journée sans rien faire?

7 Ils lui répondirent: C'est que personne ne nous a loués. Allez aussi à ma vigne, leur dit-il.

8 Quand le soir fut venu, le maître de la vigne dit à son intendant: Appelle les ouvriers, et paie-leur le salaire, en allant des derniers aux premiers.

9 Ceux de la onzième heure vinrent, et reçurent chacun un denier.

10 Les premiers vinrent ensuite, croyant recevoir davantage; mais ils reçurent aussi chacun un denier.

11 En le recevant, ils murmurèrent contre le maître de la maison,

12 et dirent: Ces derniers n'ont travaillé qu'une heure, et tu les traites à l'égal de nous, qui avons supporté la fatigue du jour et la chaleur.

13 Il répondit à l'un d'eux: Mon ami, je ne te fais pas tort; n'es-tu pas convenu avec moi d'un denier?

14 Prends ce qui te revient, et va-t'en. Je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu'à toi.

15 Ne m'est-il pas permis de faire de mon bien ce que je veux? Ou vois-tu de mauvais oeil que je sois bon? -

16 Ainsi les derniers seront les premiers, et les premiers seront les derniers.

1 Poiché il regno de cieli è simile a un padron di casa, il quale, in sul far del giorno, uscì a prender ad opra de lavoratori per la sua vigna.

2 E avendo convenuto coi lavoratori per un denaro al giorno, li mandò nella sua vigna.

3 Ed uscito verso lora terza, ne vide degli altri che se ne stavano sulla piazza disoccupati,

4 e disse loro: Andate anche voi nella vigna, e vi darò quel che sarà giusto. Ed essi andarono.

5 Poi, uscito ancora verso la sesta e la nona ora, fece lo stesso.

6 Ed uscito verso lundicesima, ne trovò degli altri in piazza e disse loro: Perché ve ne state qui tutto il giorno inoperosi?

7 Essi gli dissero: Perché nessuno ci ha presi a giornata. Egli disse loro: Andate anche voi nella vigna.

8 Poi, fattosi sera, il padron della vigna disse al suo fattore: Chiama i lavoratori e paga loro la mercede, cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi.

9 Allora, venuti quei dellundicesima ora, ricevettero un denaro per uno.

10 E venuti i primi, pensavano di ricever di più; ma ricevettero anchessi un denaro per uno.

11 E ricevutolo, mormoravano contro al padron di casa, dicendo:

12 Questi ultimi non han fatto che unora e tu li hai fatti pari a noi che abbiamo portato il peso della giornata e il caldo.

13 Ma egli, rispondendo a un di loro, disse: Amico, io non ti fo alcun torto; non convenisti meco per un denaro?

14 Prendi il tuo, e vattene; ma io voglio dare a questultimo quanto a te.

15 Non mè lecito far del mio ciò che voglio? o vedi tu di mal occhio chio sia buono?

16 Così gli ultimi saranno primi, e i primi ultimi.
