1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

1 Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, allèrent à la rencontre de l'époux.

2 Cinq d'entre elles étaient folles, et cinq sages.

3 Les folles, en prenant leurs lampes, ne prirent point d'huile avec elles;

4 mais les sages prirent, avec leurs lampes, de l'huile dans des vases.

5 Comme l'époux tardait, toutes s'assoupirent et s'endormirent.

6 Au milieu de la nuit, on cria: Voici l'époux, allez à sa rencontre!

7 Alors toutes ces vierges se réveillèrent, et préparèrent leurs lampes.

8 Les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s'éteignent.

9 Les sages répondirent: Non; il n'y en aurait pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt chez ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.

10 Pendant qu'elles allaient en acheter, l'époux arriva; celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.

11 Plus tard, les autres vierges vinrent, et dirent: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous.

12 Mais il répondit: Je vous le dis en vérité, je ne vous connais pas.

13 Veillez donc, puisque vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l'heure.

14 Il en sera comme d'un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs, et leur remit ses biens.

15 Il donna cinq talents à l'un, deux à l'autre, et un au troisième, à chacun selon sa capacité, et il partit. Aussitôt

16 celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s'en alla, les fit valoir, et il gagna cinq autres talents.

17 De même, celui qui avait reçu les deux talents en gagna deux autres.

18 Celui qui n'en avait reçu qu'un alla faire un creux dans la terre, et cacha l'argent de son maître.

19 Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint, et leur fit rendre compte.

20 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s'approcha, en apportant cinq autres talents, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m'as remis cinq talents; voici, j'en ai gagné cinq autres.

21 Son maître lui dit: C'est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur; tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je te confierai beaucoup; entre dans la joie de ton maître.

22 Celui qui avait reçu les deux talents s'approcha aussi, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m'as remis deux talents; voici, j'en ai gagné deux autres.

23 Son maître lui dit: C'est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur; tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je te confierai beaucoup; entre dans la joie de ton maître.

24 Celui qui n'avait reçu qu'un talent s'approcha ensuite, et il dit: Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur, qui moissonnes où tu n'as pas semé, et qui amasses où tu n'as pas vanné;

25 j'ai eu peur, et je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre; voici, prends ce qui est à toi.

26 Son maître lui répondit: Serviteur méchant et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n'ai pas semé, et que j'amasse où je n'ai pas vanné;

27 il te fallait donc remettre mon argent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j'aurais retiré ce qui est à moi avec un intérêt.

28 Otez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix talents.

29 Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l'abondance, mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.

30 Et le serviteur inutile, jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.

31 Lorsque le Fils de l'homme viendra dans sa gloire, avec tous les anges, il s'assiéra sur le trône de sa gloire.

32 Toutes les nations seront assemblées devant lui. Il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d'avec les boucs;

33 et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche.

34 Alors le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite: Venez, vous qui êtes bénis de mon Père; prenez possession du royaume qui vous a été préparé dès la fondation du monde.

35 Car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avez donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire; j'étais étranger, et vous m'avez recueilli;

36 j'étais nu, et vous m'avez vêtu; j'étais malade, et vous m'avez visité; j'étais en prison, et vous êtes venus vers moi.

37 Les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand t'avons-nous vu avoir faim, et t'avons-nous donné à manger; ou avoir soif, et t'avons-nous donné à boire?

38 Quand t'avons-nous vu étranger, et t'avons-nous recueilli; ou nu, et t'avons-nous vêtu?

39 Quand t'avons-nous vu malade, ou en prison, et sommes-nous allés vers toi?

40 Et le roi leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous avez fait ces choses à l'un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c'est à moi que vous les avez faites.

41 Ensuite il dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche: Retirez-vous de moi, maudits; allez dans le feu éternel qui a été préparé pour le diable et pour ses anges.

42 Car j'ai eu faim, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à boire;

43 j'étais étranger, et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli; j'étais nu, et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu; j'étais malade et en prison, et vous ne m'avez pas visité.

44 Ils répondront aussi: Seigneur, quand t'avons-nous vu ayant faim, ou ayant soif, ou étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne t'avons-nous pas assisté?

45 Et il leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous n'avez pas fait ces choses à l'un de ces plus petits, c'est à moi que vous ne les avez pas faites.

46 Et ceux-ci iront au châtiment éternel, mais les justes à la vie éternelle.

1 Allora il regno de’ cieli sarà simile a dieci vergini le quali, prese le loro lampade, uscirono a incontrar lo sposo.

2 Or cinque d’esse erano stolte e cinque avvedute;

3 le stolte, nel prendere le loro lampade, non avean preso seco dell’olio;

4 mentre le avvedute, insieme con le loro lampade, avean preso dell’olio ne’ vasi.

5 Or tardando lo sposo, tutte divennero sonnacchiose e si addormentarono.

6 E sulla mezzanotte si levò un grido: Ecco lo sposo, uscitegli incontro!

7 Allora tutte quelle vergini si destarono e acconciaron le loro lampade.

8 E le stolte dissero alle avvedute: Dateci del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono.

9 Ma le avvedute risposero: No, che talora non basti per noi e per voi; andate piuttosto da’ venditori e compratevene!

10 Ma, mentre quelle andavano a comprarne, arrivò lo sposo; e quelle che eran pronte, entraron con lui nella sala delle nozze, e l’uscio fu chiuso.

11 All’ultimo vennero anche le altre vergini, dicendo: Signore, Signore, aprici!

12 Ma egli, rispondendo, disse: Io vi dico in verità: Non vi conosco.

13 Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l’ora.

14 Poiché avverrà come di un uomo il quale, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servitori e affidò loro i suoi beni;

15 e all’uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due, e a un altro uno; a ciascuno secondo la sua capacità; e partì.

16 Subito, colui che avea ricevuto i cinque talenti andò a farli fruttare, e ne guadagnò altri cinque.

17 Parimente, quello de’ due ne guadagnò altri due.

18 Ma colui che ne avea ricevuto uno, andò e, fatta una buca in terra, vi nascose il danaro del suo adrone.

19 Or dopo molto tempo, ecco il padrone di que’ servitori a fare i conti con loro.

20 E colui che avea ricevuto i cinque talenti, venne e presentò altri cinque talenti, dicendo: Signore, tu m’affidasti cinque talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque.

21 E il suo padrone gli disse: Va bene, buono e fedel servitore; sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore.

22 Poi, presentatosi anche quello de’ due talenti, disse: Signore, tu m’affidasti due talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri due.

23 Il suo padrone gli disse: Va bene, buono e fedel servitore; sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore.

24 Poi, accostatosi anche quello che avea ricevuto un talento solo, disse: Signore, io sapevo che tu sei uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato, e raccogli dove non hai sparso;

25 ebbi paura, e andai a nascondere il tuo talento sotterra; eccoti il tuo.

26 E il suo padrone, rispondendo, gli disse: Servo malvagio ed infingardo, tu sapevi ch’io mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;

27 dovevi dunque portare il mio danaro dai banchieri; e al mio ritorno, avrei ritirato il mio con interesse.

28 Toglietegli dunque il talento, e datelo a colui che ha i dieci talenti.

29 Poiché a chiunque ha sarà dato, ed egli sovrabbonderà; ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

30 E quel servitore disutile, gettatelo nelle tenebre di fuori. Ivi sarà il pianto e lo stridor dei denti.

31 Or quando il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà venuto nella sua gloria, avendo seco tutti gli angeli, allora sederà sul trono della sua gloria.

32 E tutte le genti saranno radunate dinanzi a lui; ed egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capri;

33 e metterà le pecore alla sua destra e i capri alla sinistra.

34 Allora il Re dirà a quelli della sua destra: Venite, voi, i benedetti del Padre mio; eredate il regno che v’è stato preparato sin dalla fondazione del mondo.

35 Perché ebbi fame, e mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete, e mi deste da bere; fui forestiere, e m’accoglieste;

36 fui ignudo, e mi rivestiste; fui infermo, e mi visitaste; fui in prigione, e veniste a trovarmi.

37 Allora i giusti gli risponderanno: Signore, quando mai t’abbiam veduto aver fame e t’abbiam dato da mangiare? o aver sete e t’abbiam dato da bere?

38 Quando mai t’abbiam veduto forestiere e t’abbiamo accolto? o ignudo e t’abbiam rivestito?

39 Quando mai t’abbiam veduto infermo o in prigione e siam venuti a trovarti?

40 E il Re, rispondendo, dirà loro: In verità vi dico che in quanto l’avete fatto ad uno di questi miei minimi fratelli, l’avete fatto a me.

41 Allora dirà anche a coloro della sinistra: Andate via da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato pel diavolo e per i suoi angeli!

42 Perché ebbi fame e non mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e non mi deste da bere;

43 fui forestiere e non m’accoglieste; ignudo, e non mi rivestiste; infermo ed in prigione, e non mi visitaste.

44 Allora anche questi gli risponderanno, dicendo: Signore, quando t’abbiam veduto aver fame, o sete, o esser forestiero, o ignudo, o infermo, o in prigione, e non t’abbiamo assistito?

45 Allora risponderà loro, dicendo: In verità vi dico che in quanto non l’avete fatto ad uno di questi minimi, non l’avete fatto neppure a me.

46 E questi se ne andranno a punizione eterna; ma i giusti a vita eterna.
