4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: 6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned. 7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses. 8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations: 9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there. 10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand. 11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

4 Lorsque j'entendis ces choses, je m'assis, je pleurai, et je fus plusieurs jours dans la désolation. Je jeûnai et je priai devant le Dieu des cieux,

5 et je dis: O Eternel, Dieu des cieux, Dieu grand et redoutable, toi qui gardes ton alliance et qui fais miséricorde à ceux qui t'aiment et qui observent tes commandements!

6 Que ton oreille soit attentive et que tes yeux soient ouverts: écoute la prière que ton serviteur t'adresse en ce moment, jour et nuit, pour tes serviteurs les enfants d'Israël, en confessant les péchés des enfants d'Israël, nos péchés contre toi; car moi et la maison de mon père, nous avons péché.

7 Nous t'avons offensé, et nous n'avons point observé les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances que tu prescrivis à Moïse, ton serviteur.

8 Souviens-toi de cette parole que tu donnas ordre à Moïse, ton serviteur, de prononcer. Lorsque vous pécherez, je vous disperserai parmi les peuples;

9 mais si vous revenez à moi, et si vous observez mes commandements et les mettez en pratique, alors, quand vous seriez exilés à l'extrémité du ciel, de là je vous rassemblerai et je vous ramènerai dans le lieu que j'ai choisi pour y faire résider mon nom.

10 Ils sont tes serviteurs et ton peuple, que tu as rachetés par ta grande puissance et par ta main forte.

11 Ah! Seigneur, que ton oreille soit attentive à la prière de ton serviteur, et à la prière de tes serviteurs qui veulent craindre ton nom! Donne aujourd'hui du succès à ton serviteur, et fais-lui trouver grâce devant cet homme! J'étais alors échanson du roi.

4 Comebbi udite queste parole, io mi posi a sedere, piansi, feci cordoglio per parecchi giorni, e digiunai e pregai dinanzi allIddio del cielo.

5 E dissi: "O Eterno, Dio del cielo, Dio grande e tremendo; che mantieni il patto e la misericordia con quei che tamano e osservano i tuoi comandamenti,

6 siano le tue orecchie attente, i tuoi occhi aperti, ed ascolta la preghiera del tuo servo, la quale io fo adesso dinanzi a te, giorno e notte, per i figliuoli dIsraele, tuoi servi, confessando i peccati de figliuoli dIsraele: peccati, che noi abbiam commessi contro di te; sì, che io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo commessi!

7 Noi ci siam condotti malvagiamente contro di te, e non abbiamo osservato i comandamenti, le leggi e le prescrizioni che tu desti a Mosè, tuo servo.

8 Deh, ricordati della parola che ordinasti a Mosè, tuo servo, di pronunziare: Se sarete infedeli, io vi disperderò fra i popoli;

9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei comandamenti e li metterete in pratica, quandanche i vostri dispersi fossero gli estremi confini del mondo, io di là li raccoglierò; e li ricondurrò al luogo che ho scelto per farne la dimora del mio nome.

10 Or questi sono tuoi servi, tuo popolo; tu li hai redenti con la tua gran potenza e con la tua forte mano.

11 O Signore, te ne prego, siano le tue orecchie attente alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera de tuoi servi, che hanno a cuore di temere il tuo nome; e concedi oggi, ti prego, buon successo al tuo servo, e fa chei trovi pietà agli occhi di questuomo". Allora io ero coppiere del re.
