1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Etant donc justifiés par la foi, nous avons la paix avec Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,

2 qui nous devons d'avoir eu par la foi accès à cette grâce, dans laquelle nous demeurons fermes, et nous nous glorifions dans l'espérance de la gloire de Dieu.

3 Bien plus, nous nous glorifions même des afflictions, sachant que l'affliction produit la persévérance,

4 la persévérance la victoire dans l'épreuve, et cette victoire l'espérance.

5 Or, l'espérance ne trompe point, parce que l'amour de Dieu est répandu dans nos coeurs par le Saint-Esprit qui nous a été donné.

6 Car, lorsque nous étions encore sans force, Christ, au temps marqué, est mort pour des impies.

7 A peine mourrait-on pour un juste; quelqu'un peut-être mourrait-il pour un homme de bien.

8 Mais Dieu prouve son amour envers nous, en ce que, lorsque nous étions encore des pécheurs, Christ est mort pour nous.

9 A plus forte raison donc, maintenant que nous sommes justifiés par son sang, serons-nous sauvés par lui de la colère.

10 Car si, lorsque nous étions ennemis, nous avons été réconciliés avec Dieu par la mort de son Fils, à plus forte raison, étant réconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie.

11 Et non seulement cela, mais encore nous nous glorifions en Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, par qui maintenant nous avons obtenu la réconciliation.

12 C'est pourquoi, comme par un seul homme le péché est entré dans le monde, et par le péché la mort, et qu'ainsi la mort s'est étendue sur tous les hommes, parce que tous ont péché,...

13 car jusqu'à la loi le péché était dans le monde. Or, le péché n'est pas imputé, quand il n'y a point de loi.

14 Cependant la mort a régné depuis Adam jusqu'à Moïse, même sur ceux qui n'avaient pas péché par une transgression semblable à celle d'Adam, lequel est la figure de celui qui devait venir.

15 Mais il n'en est pas du don gratuit comme de l'offense; car, si par l'offense d'un seul il en est beaucoup qui sont morts, à plus forte raison la grâce de Dieu et le don de la grâce venant d'un seul homme, Jésus-Christ, ont-ils été abondamment répandus sur beaucoup.

16 Et il n'en est pas du don comme de ce qui est arrivé par un seul qui a péché; car c'est après une seule offense que le jugement est devenu condamnation, tandis que le don gratuit devient justification après plusieurs offenses.

17 Si par l'offense d'un seul la mort a régné par lui seul, à plus forte raison ceux qui reçoivent l'abondance de la grâce et du don de la justice régneront-ils dans la vie par Jésus-Christ lui seul.

18 Ainsi donc, comme par une seule offense la condamnation a atteint tous les hommes, de même par un seul acte de justice la justification qui donne la vie s'étend à tous les hommes.

19 Car, comme par la désobéissance d'un seul homme beaucoup ont été rendus pécheurs, de même par l'obéissance d'un seul beaucoup seront rendus justes.

20 Or, la loi est intervenue pour que l'offense abondât, mais là où le péché a abondé, la grâce a surabondé,

21 afin que, comme le péché a régné par la mort, ainsi la grâce régnât par la justice pour la vie éternelle, par Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.

1 Giustificati dunque per fede, abbiam pace con Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore,

2 mediante il quale abbiamo anche avuto, per la fede, l’accesso a questa grazia nella quale stiamo saldi; e ci gloriamo nella speranza della gloria di Dio;

3 e non soltanto questo, ma ci gloriamo anche nelle afflizioni, sapendo che l’afflizione produce pazienza, la pazienza esperienza,

4 e la esperienza speranza.

5 Or la speranza non rende confusi, perché l’amor di Dio è stato sparso nei nostri cuori per lo Spirito anto che ci è stato dato.

6 Perché, mentre eravamo ancora senza forza, Cristo, a suo tempo, è morto per gli empi.

7 Poiché a mala pena uno muore per un giusto; ma forse per un uomo dabbene qualcuno ardirebbe morire;

8 ma Iddio mostra la grandezza del proprio amore per noi, in quanto che, mentre eravamo ancora peccatori, Cristo è morto per noi.

9 Tanto più dunque, essendo ora giustificati per il suo sangue, sarem per mezzo di lui salvati dall’ira.

10 Perché, se mentre eravamo nemici siamo stati riconciliati con Dio mediante la morte del suo Figliuolo, tanto più ora, essendo riconciliati, saremo salvati mediante la sua vita.

11 E non soltanto questo, ma anche ci gloriamo in Dio per mezzo del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo, per il quale abbiamo ora ottenuto la riconciliazione.

12 Perciò, siccome per mezzo d’un sol uomo il peccato è entrato nel mondo, e per mezzo del peccato v’è entrata la morte, e in questo modo la morte è passata su tutti gli uomini, perché tutti hanno peccato…

13 Poiché, fino alla legge, il peccato era nel mondo; ma il peccato non è imputato quando non v’è legge.

14 Eppure, la morte regnò, da Adamo fino a Mosè, anche su quelli che non avean peccato con una trasgressione simile a quella d’Adamo, il quale è il tipo di colui che dovea venire.

15 Però, la grazia non è come il fallo. Perché, se per il fallo di quell’uno i molti sono morti, molto più la grazia di Dio e il dono fattoci dalla grazia dell’unico uomo Gesù Cristo, hanno abbondato verso i molti.

16 E riguardo al dono non avviene quel che è avvenuto nel caso dell’uno che ha peccato; poiché il giudizio da un unico fallo ha fatto capo alla condanna; mentre la grazia, da molti falli, ha fatto capo alla giustificazione.

17 Perché, se per il fallo di quell’uno la morte ha regnato mediante quell’uno, tanto più quelli che ricevono l’abbondanza della grazia e del dono della giustizia, regneranno nella vita per mezzo di quell’uno che è Gesù Cristo.

18 Come dunque con un sol fallo la condanna si è estesa a tutti gli uomini, così, con un solo atto di giustizia la giustificazione che dà vita s’è estesa a tutti gli uomini.

19 Poiché, siccome per la disubbidienza di un solo uomo i molti sono stati costituiti peccatori, così anche per l’ubbidienza d’un solo, i molti saran costituiti giusti.

20 Or la legge è intervenuta affinché il fallo abbondasse; ma dove il peccato è abbondato, la grazia è ovrabbondata,

21 affinché, come il peccato regnò nella morte, così anche la grazia regni, mediante la giustizia, a vita eterna, per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore.
