1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?

3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.

4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;

5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:

14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.

20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.

26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:

35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

40 Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

48 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.

1 Louez l'Eternel! Louez l'Eternel, car il est bon, Car sa miséricorde dure à toujours!

2 Qui dira les hauts faits de l'Eternel? Qui publiera toute sa louange?

3 Heureux ceux qui observent la loi, Qui pratiquent la justice en tout temps!

4 Eternel, souviens-toi de moi dans ta bienveillance pour ton peuple! Souviens-toi de moi en lui accordant ton secours,

5 Afin que je voie le bonheur de tes élus, Que je me réjouisse de la joie de ton peuple, Et que je me glorifie avec ton héritage!

6 Nous avons péché comme nos pères, Nous avons commis l'iniquité, nous avons fait le mal.

7 Nos pères en Egypte ne furent pas attentifs à tes miracles, Ils ne se rappelèrent pas la multitude de tes grâces, Ils furent rebelles près de la mer, près de la mer Rouge.

8 Mais il les sauva à cause de son nom, Pour manifester sa puissance.

9 Il menaça la mer Rouge, et elle se dessécha; Et il les fit marcher à travers les abîmes comme dans un désert.

10 Il les sauva de la main de celui qui les haïssait, Il les délivra de la main de l'ennemi.

11 Les eaux couvrirent leurs adversaires: Il n'en resta pas un seul.

12 Et ils crurent à ses paroles, Ils chantèrent ses louanges.

13 Mais ils oublièrent bientôt ses oeuvres, Ils n'attendirent pas l'exécution de ses desseins.

14 Ils furent saisis de convoitise dans le désert, Et ils tentèrent Dieu dans la solitude.

15 Il leur accorda ce qu'ils demandaient; Puis il envoya le dépérissement dans leur corps.

16 Ils se montrèrent, dans le camp, jaloux contre Moïse, Contre Aaron, le saint de l'Eternel.

17 La terre s'ouvrit et engloutit Dathan, Et elle se referma sur la troupe d'Abiram;

18 Le feu embrasa leur troupe, La flamme consuma les méchants.

19 Ils firent un veau en Horeb, Ils se prosternèrent devant une image de fonte,

20 Ils échangèrent leur gloire Contre la figure d'un boeuf qui mange l'herbe.

21 Ils oublièrent Dieu, leur sauveur, Qui avait fait de grandes choses en Egypte,

22 Des miracles dans le pays de Cham, Des prodiges sur la mer Rouge.

23 Et il parla de les exterminer; Mais Moïse, son élu, se tint à la brèche devant lui, Pour détourner sa fureur et l'empêcher de les détruire.

24 Ils méprisèrent le pays des délices; Ils ne crurent pas à la parole de l'Eternel,

25 Ils murmurèrent dans leurs tentes, Ils n'obéirent point à sa voix.

26 Et il leva la main pour jurer De les faire tomber dans le désert,

27 De faire tomber leur postérité parmi les nations, Et de les disperser au milieu des pays.

28 Ils s'attachèrent à Baal-Peor, Et mangèrent des victimes sacrifiées aux morts.

29 Ils irritèrent l'Eternel par leurs actions, Et une plaie fit irruption parmi eux.

30 Phinées se leva pour intervenir, Et la plaie s'arrêta;

31 Cela lui fut imputé à justice, De génération en génération pour toujours.

32 Ils irritèrent l'Eternel près des eaux de Meriba; Et Moïse fut puni à cause d'eux,

33 Car ils aigrirent son esprit, Et il s'exprima légèrement des lèvres.

34 Ils ne détruisirent point les peuples Que l'Eternel leur avait ordonné de détruire.

35 Ils se mêlèrent avec les nations, Et ils apprirent leurs oeuvres.

36 Ils servirent leurs idoles, Qui furent pour eux un piège;

37 Ils sacrifièrent leurs fils Et leurs filles aux idoles,

38 Ils répandirent le sang innocent, Le sang de leurs fils et de leurs filles, Qu'ils sacrifièrent aux idoles de Canaan, Et le pays fut profané par des meurtres.

39 Ils se souillèrent par leurs oeuvres, Ils se prostituèrent par leurs actions.

40 La colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre son peuple, Et il prit en horreur son héritage.

41 Il les livra entre les mains des nations; Ceux qui les haïssaient dominèrent sur eux;

42 Leurs ennemis les opprimèrent, Et ils furent humiliés sous leur puissance.

43 Plusieurs fois il les délivra; Mais ils se montrèrent rebelles dans leurs desseins, Et ils devinrent malheureux par leur iniquité.

44 Il vit leur détresse, Lorsqu'il entendit leurs supplications.

45 Il se souvint en leur faveur de son alliance;

46 Il eut pitié selon sa grande bonté, Et il excita pour eux la compassion De tous ceux qui les retenaient captifs.

47 Sauve-nous, Eternel, notre Dieu! Et rassemble-nous du milieu des nations, Afin que nous célébrions ton saint nom, Et que nous mettions notre gloire à te louer!

48 Béni soit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, d'éternité en éternité! Et que tout le peuple dise: Amen! Louez l'Eternel!

1 Alleluia! Celebrate l’Eterno, perch’egli è buono, perché la sua benignità dura in perpetuo.

2 Chi può raccontare le gesta dell’Eterno, o pubblicar tutta la sua lode?

3 Beati coloro che osservano ciò ch’è prescritto, che fanno ciò ch’è giusto, in ogni tempo!

4 O Eterno, ricordati di me, con la benevolenza che usi verso il tuo popolo; visitami con la tua salvazione,

5 affinché io vegga il bene de’ tuoi eletti, mi rallegri dell’allegrezza della tua nazione, e mi glori con la ua eredità.

6 Noi e i nostri padri abbiamo peccato, abbiamo commesso l’iniquità, abbiamo agito empiamente.

7 I nostri padri non prestarono attenzione alle tue maraviglie in Egitto; non si ricordarono della moltitudine delle tue benignità, ma si ribellarono presso al mare, al Mar rosso.

8 Nondimeno egli li salvò per amor del suo nome, per far conoscere la sua potenza.

9 Sgridò il Mar rosso ed esso si seccò; li condusse attraverso gli abissi come attraverso un deserto.

10 E li salvò dalla mano di chi li odiava, e li redense dalla mano del nemico.

11 E le acque copersero i loro avversari; non ne scampò neppur uno.

12 Allora credettero alle sue parole, e cantarono la sua lode.

13 Ben presto dimenticarono le sue opere; non aspettaron fiduciosi l’esecuzione dei suoi disegni,

14 ma si accesero di cupidigia nel deserto, e tentarono Dio nella solitudine.

15 Ed egli dette loro quel che chiedevano, ma mandò la consunzione nelle loro persone.

16 Furon mossi d’invidia contro Mosè nel campo, e contro Aaronne, il santo dell’Eterno.

17 La terra s’aprì, inghiottì Datan e coperse il sèguito d’Abiram.

18 Un fuoco s’accese nella loro assemblea, la fiamma consumò gli empi.

19 Fecero un vitello in Horeb, e adorarono un’immagine di getto;

20 così mutarono la loro gloria nella figura d’un bue che mangia l’erba.

21 Dimenticarono Dio, loro salvatore, che avea fatto cose grandi in Egitto,

22 cose maravigliose nel paese di Cham, cose tremende al Mar rosso.

23 Ond’egli parlò di sterminarli; ma Mosè, suo eletto, stette sulla breccia dinanzi a lui per stornar l’ira sua onde non li distruggesse.

24 Essi disdegnarono il paese delizioso, non credettero alla sua parola;

25 e mormorarono nelle loro tende, e non dettero ascolto alla voce dell’Eterno.

26 Ond’egli, alzando la mano, giurò loro che li farebbe cader nel deserto,

27 che farebbe perire la loro progenie fra le nazioni e li disperderebbe per tutti i paesi.

28 Si congiunsero anche con Baal-Peor e mangiarono dei sacrifizi dei morti.

29 Così irritarono Iddio colle loro azioni, e un flagello irruppe fra loro.

30 Ma Fineas si levò e fece giustizia, e il flagello fu arrestato.

31 E ciò gli fu imputato come giustizia per ogni età, in perpetuo.

32 Lo provocarono ad ira anche alle acque di Meriba, e venne del male a Mosè per cagion loro;

33 perché inasprirono il suo spirito ed egli parlò sconsigliatamente con le sue labbra.

34 Essi non distrussero i popoli, come l’Eterno avea loro comandato;

35 ma si mescolarono con le nazioni, e impararono le opere d’esse:

36 e servirono ai loro idoli, i quali divennero per essi un laccio;

37 e sacrificarono i loro figliuoli e le loro figliuole ai demoni,

38 e sparsero il sangue innocente, il sangue dei loro figliuoli e delle loro figliuole, che sacrificarono agl’idoli di Canaan; e il paese fu profanato dal sangue versato.

39 Essi si contaminarono con le loro opere, e si prostituirono coi loro atti.

40 Onde l’ira dell’Eterno si accese contro il suo popolo, ed egli ebbe in abominio la sua eredità.

41 E li dette nelle mani delle nazioni, e quelli che li odiavano li signoreggiarono.

42 E i loro nemici li oppressero, e furono umiliati sotto la loro mano.

43 Molte volte li liberò, ma essi si ribellavano, seguendo i loro propri voleri, e si rovinavano per la loro iniquità.

44 Tuttavia, volse a loro lo sguardo quando furono in distretta, quando udì il loro grido;

45 e si ricordò per loro del suo patto, e si pentì secondo la moltitudine delle sue benignità.

46 Fece loro anche trovar compassione presso tutti quelli che li aveano menati in cattività.

47 Salvaci, o Eterno, Iddio nostro, e raccoglici di fra le nazioni, affinché celebriamo il tuo santo nome, e mettiamo la nostra gloria nel lodarti.

48 Benedetto sia l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, d’eternità in eternità! E tutto il popolo dica: Amen! Alleluia.
