1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

1 De David. Ne t'irrite pas contre les méchants, N'envie pas ceux qui font le mal.

2 Car ils sont fauchés aussi vite que l'herbe, Et ils se flétrissent comme le gazon vert.

3 Confie-toi en l'Eternel, et pratique le bien; Aie le pays pour demeure et la fidélité pour pâture.

4 Fais de l'Eternel tes délices, Et il te donnera ce que ton coeur désire.

5 Recommande ton sort à l'Eternel, Mets en lui ta confiance, et il agira.

6 Il fera paraître ta justice comme la lumière, Et ton droit comme le soleil à son midi.

7 Garde le silence devant l'Eternel, et espère en lui; Ne t'irrite pas contre celui qui réussit dans ses voies, Contre l'homme qui vient à bout de ses mauvais desseins.

8 Laisse la colère, abandonne la fureur; Ne t'irrite pas, ce serait mal faire.

9 Car les méchants seront retranchés, Et ceux qui espèrent en l'Eternel posséderont le pays.

10 Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant n'est plus; Tu regardes le lieu où il était, et il a disparu.

11 Les misérables possèdent le pays, Et ils jouissent abondamment de la paix.

12 Le méchant forme des projets contre le juste, Et il grince des dents contre lui.

13 Le Seigneur se rit du méchant, Car il voit que son jour arrive.

14 Les méchants tirent le glaive, Ils bandent leur arc, Pour faire tomber le malheureux et l'indigent, Pour égorger ceux dont la voie est droite.

15 Leur glaive entre dans leur propre coeur, Et leurs arcs se brisent.

16 Mieux vaut le peu du juste Que l'abondance de beaucoup de méchants;

17 Car les bras des méchants seront brisés, Mais l'Eternel soutient les justes.

18 L'Eternel connaît les jours des hommes intègres, Et leur héritage dure à jamais.

19 Ils ne sont pas confondus au temps du malheur, Et ils sont rassasiés aux jours de la famine.

20 Mais les méchants périssent, Et les ennemis de l'Eternel, comme les plus beaux pâturages; Ils s'évanouissent, ils s'évanouissent en fumée.

21 Le méchant emprunte, et il ne rend pas; Le juste est compatissant, et il donne.

22 Car ceux que bénit l'Eternel possèdent le pays, Et ceux qu'il maudit sont retranchés.

23 L'Eternel affermit les pas de l'homme, Et il prend plaisir à sa voie;

24 S'il tombe, il n'est pas terrassé, Car l'Eternel lui prend la main.

25 J'ai été jeune, j'ai vieilli; Et je n'ai point vu le juste abandonné, Ni sa postérité mendiant son pain.

26 Toujours il est compatissant, et il prête; Et sa postérité est bénie.

27 Détourne-toi du mal, fais le bien, Et possède à jamais ta demeure.

28 Car l'Eternel aime la justice, Et il n'abandonne pas ses fidèles; Ils sont toujours sous sa garde, Mais la postérité des méchants est retranchée.

29 Les justes posséderont le pays, Et ils y demeureront à jamais.

30 La bouche du juste annonce la sagesse, Et sa langue proclame la justice.

31 La loi de son Dieu est dans son coeur; Ses pas ne chancellent point.

32 Le méchant épie le juste, Et il cherche à le faire mourir.

33 L'Eternel ne le laisse pas entre ses mains, Et il ne le condamne pas quand il est en jugement.

34 Espère en l'Eternel, garde sa voie, Et il t'élèvera pour que tu possèdes le pays; Tu verras les méchants retranchés.

35 J'ai vu le méchant dans toute sa puissance; Il s'étendait comme un arbre verdoyant.

36 Il a passé, et voici, il n'est plus; Je le cherche, et il ne se trouve plus.

37 Observe celui qui est intègre, et regarde celui qui est droit; Car il y a une postérité pour l'homme de paix.

38 Mais les rebelles sont tous anéantis, La postérité des méchants est retranchée.

39 Le salut des justes vient de l'Eternel; Il est leur protecteur au temps de la détresse.

40 L'Eternel les secourt et les délivre; Il les délivre des méchants et les sauve, Parce qu'ils cherchent en lui leur refuge.

1 Di Davide. Non ti crucciare a cagion de’ malvagi; non portare invidia a quelli che operano perversamente;

2 perché saran di subito falciati come il fieno, e appassiranno come l’erba verde.

3 Confidati nell’Eterno e fa’ il bene; abita il paese e coltiva la fedeltà.

4 Prendi il tuo diletto nell’Eterno, ed egli ti darà quel che il tuo cuore domanda.

5 Rimetti la tua sorte nell’Eterno; confidati in lui, ed egli opererà

6 Egli farà risplendere la tua giustizia come la luce, e il tuo diritto come il mezzodì.

7 Sta’ in silenzio dinanzi all’Eterno, e aspettalo; non ti crucciare per colui che prospera nella sua via, per l’uomo che riesce ne’ suoi malvagi disegni.

8 Cessa dall’ira e lascia lo sdegno; non crucciarti; ciò non conduce che al mal fare.

9 Poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati; ma quelli che sperano nell’Eterno possederanno la terra.

10 Ancora un poco e l’empio non sarà più; tu osserverai il suo luogo, ed egli non vi sarà più.

11 Ma i mansueti erederanno la terra e godranno abbondanza di pace.

12 L’empio macchina contro il giusto e digrigna i denti contro lui.

13 Il Signore si ride di lui, perché vede che il suo giorno viene.

14 Gli empi han tratto la spada e teso il loro arco per abbattere il misero e il bisognoso, per sgozzare quelli che vanno per la via diritta.

15 La loro spada entrerà loro nel cuore, e gli archi loro saranno rotti.

16 Meglio vale il poco del giusto che l’abbondanza di molti empi.

17 Perché le braccia degli empi saranno rotte; ma l’Eterno sostiene i giusti.

18 L’Eterno conosce i giorni degli uomini integri; e la loro eredità durerà in perpetuo.

19 Essi non saran confusi nel tempo dell’avversità, e saranno saziati nel tempo dalla fame.

20 Ma gli empi periranno; e i nemici dell’Eterno, come grasso d’agnelli, saran consumati e andranno in fumo.

21 L’empio prende a prestito e non rende; ma il giusto è pietoso e dona.

22 Poiché quelli che Dio benedice erederanno la terra, ma quelli ch’ei maledice saranno sterminati.

23 I passi dell’uomo dabbene son diretti dall’Eterno ed egli gradisce le vie di lui.

24 Se cade, non è però atterrato, perché l’Eterno lo sostiene per la mano.

25 Io sono stato giovane e son anche divenuto vecchio, ma non ho visto il giusto abbandonato, né la sua progenie accattare il pane.

26 Egli tutti i giorni è pietoso e presta, e la sua progenie è in benedizione.

27 Ritraiti dal male e fa’ il bene, e dimorerai nel paese in perpetuo.

28 Poiché l’Eterno ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi santi; essi son conservati in perpetuo; ma la progenie degli empi sarà sterminata.

29 I giusti erederanno la terra e l’abiteranno in perpetuo.

30 La bocca del giusto proferisce sapienza e la sua lingua pronunzia giustizia.

31 La legge del suo Dio è nel suo cuore; i suoi passi non vacilleranno.

32 L’empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.

33 L’Eterno non l’abbandonerà nelle sue mani, e non lo condannerà quando verrà in giudicio.

34 Aspetta l’Eterno e osserva la sua via; egli t’innalzerà perché tu eredi la terra; e quando gli empi saranno sterminati, tu lo vedrai.

35 Io ho veduto l’empio potente, e distendersi come albero verde sul suolo natìo;

36 ma è passato via, ed ecco, non è più; io l’ho cercato, ma non s’è più trovato.

37 Osserva l’uomo integro e considera l’uomo retto; perché v’è una posterità per l’uomo di pace.

38 Mentre i trasgressori saranno tutti quanti distrutti; la posterità degli empi sarà sterminata.

39 Ma la salvezza dei giusti procede dall’Eterno; egli è la loro fortezza nel tempo della distretta.

40 L’Eterno li aiuta e li libera: li libera dagli empi e li salva, perché si sono rifugiati in lui.
