1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

1 Laulunjohtajalle. Säestetään gatilaisilla soittimilla. Daavidin psalmi. (H8:2)Herra, meidän Jumalamme, kuinka suuri onkaan sinun nimesi maan päällä! Se julistaa sinun taivaallista kirkkauttasi.

2 (H8:3)Lasten ja imeväisten huudot todistavat sinun voimastasi. Ne ovat kilpenä jumalattomia vastaan, ne vaientavat vihamiehen ja kostoa janoavan.

3 (H8:4)Kun minä katselen taivasta, sinun kättesi työtä, kuuta ja tähtiä, jotka olet asettanut paikoilleen

4 (H8:5) -- mikä on ihminen! Kuitenkin sinä häntä muistat. Mikä on ihmislapsi! Kuitenkin pidät hänestä huolen.

5 (H8:6)Sinä teit hänestä lähes kaltaisesi olennon, seppelöit hänet kunnialla ja kirkkaudella.

6 (H8:7)Sinä panit hänet hallitsemaan luotujasi, asetit kaiken hänen valtaansa:

7 (H8:8)lampaat ja härät, kaiken karjan, metsän villit eläimet,

8 (H8:9)taivaan linnut ja meren kalat, kaikki vesissä liikkuvat.

9 (H8:10)Herra, meidän Jumalamme, suuri on sinun nimesi kautta koko maailman!
