1 Der Mensch, vom Weibe geboren, lebt kurze Zeit und ist voll Unruhe,

2 gehet auf wie eine Blume und fällt ab, fleucht wie ein Schatten und bleibet nicht.

3 Und du tust deine Augen über solchem auf, daß du mich vor dir in das Gericht ziehest.

4 Wer will einen Reinen finden bei denen, da keiner rein ist?

5 Er hat seine bestimmte Zeit, die Zahl seiner Monden stehet bei dir; du hast ein Ziel gesetzt, das wird er nicht übergehen.

6 Tue dich von ihm, daß er Ruhe habe, bis daß seine Zeit komme, deren er wie ein Taglöhner wartet.

7 Ein Baum hat Hoffnung, wenn er schon abgehauen ist, daß er sich wieder verändere, und seine Schößlinge hören nicht auf.

8 Ob seine Wurzel in der Erde veraltet und sein Stamm in dem Staube erstirbt,

9 grünet er doch wieder vom Geruch des Wassers und wächst daher, als wäre er gepflanzet.

10 Wo ist aber ein Mensch, wenn er tot und umkommen und dahin ist?

11 Wie ein Wasser ausläuft aus dem See und wie ein Strom versieget und vertrocknet,

12 so ist ein Mensch, wenn er sich legt, und wird nicht aufstehen und wird nicht aufwachen, solange der Himmel bleibt, noch von seinem Schlaf erweckt werden.

13 Ach, daß du mich in der Hölle verdecktest und verbärgest, bis dein Zorn sich lege, und setztest mir ein Ziel, daß du an mich denkest!

14 Meinest du, ein toter Mensch werde wieder leben? Ich harre täglich; dieweil ich streite, bis daß meine Veränderung komme,

15 daß du wollest mir rufen, und ich dir antworten, und wollest das Werk deiner Hände nicht ausschlagen.

16 Denn du hast schon meine Gänge gezählet; aber du wollest ja nicht achthaben auf meine Sünde.

17 Du hast meine Übertretung in einem Bündlein versiegelt und meine Missetat zusammengefasset.

18 Zerfällt doch ein Berg und vergehet, und ein Fels wird von seinem Ort versetzt.

19 Wasser wäschet Steine weg, und die Tropfen flößen die Erde weg; aber des Menschen Hoffnung ist verloren.

20 Denn du stößest ihn gar um, daß er dahinfähret, veränderst sein Wesen und lässest ihn fahren.

21 Sind seine Kinder in Ehren, das weiß er nicht; oder ob sie geringe sind, des wird er nicht gewahr.

22 Weil er das Fleisch an sich trägt, muß er Schmerzen haben, und weil seine Seele noch bei ihm ist, muß er Leid tragen.

10 Ko te tangata ia, mate iho, marere noa iho; ae, ka hamo te tangata, a kei hea ia?

11 Pera i nga wai e he mai nei i te moana, i te awa e mimiti ana, ka maroke;

12 E pera ana ano te tangata, e takoto ana a kahore he whakatikanga ake: kahore he marangatanga ake mo ratou, a kia kore ra ano nga rangi; e kore ano ratou e ara i to ratou moe.

13 Aue, kia huna noatia oti ahau e koe ki te po, kia waihotia noatia iho ahau e koe kia ngaro ana, kia hoki ra ano tou riri; kia rohea noatia mai e koe tetahi wa moku, a ka mahara mai ai ano ki ahau!

21 Ko te whakahonoretanga o ana tama, kahore e mohiotia e ia; ka hoki iho ratou hei ware, heoi kahore tetahi aha o ratou e maharatia e ia.

22 E mamae ano ia te kikokiko o tona tinana, a ka tangi tona wairua i roto i a ia.
