1 »Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wer nicht durch die Tür in die Hürde der Schafe hineingeht, sondern anderswo hineinsteigt, der ist ein Dieb und ein Räuber;

2 wer aber durch die Tür hineingeht, der ist der Hirt der Schafe.

3 Diesem macht der Türhüter auf, und die Schafe hören auf seine Stimme; er ruft die ihm gehörenden Schafe mit Namen und führt sie hinaus.

4 Wenn er dann alle Schafe, die ihm gehören, hinausgelassen hat, geht er vor ihnen her, und die Schafe folgen ihm, weil sie seine Stimme kennen.

5 Einem Fremden aber würden sie nicht folgen, sondern vor ihm fliehen, weil sie die Stimme der Fremden nicht kennen.«

6 Dies sagte Jesus ihnen in bildlicher Rede; sie verstanden aber nicht, was er ihnen damit sagen wollte.

7 Da sagte Jesus von neuem zu ihnen: »Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Ich bin die Tür für die Schafe!

8 Alle, die vor mir gekommen sind, sind Diebe und Räuber; aber die Schafe haben nicht auf sie gehört.

9 Ich bin die Tür: Wenn jemand durch mich eingeht, wird er gerettet werden, wird ein- und ausgehen und Weide finden.

10 Der Dieb kommt nur, um zu stehlen und zu schlachten und Unheil anzurichten; ich aber bin gekommen, damit die Schafe Leben haben und Überfluß (oder: reiche Fülle) haben.«

11 »Ich bin der gute Hirt! Der gute Hirt gibt sein Leben für die Schafe hin.

12 Der Mietling (aber), der kein Hirt ist und dem die Schafe nicht zu eigen gehören, sieht den Wolf kommen, verläßt die Schafe und flieht; und der Wolf fällt sie an und zerstreut sie:

13 er ist ja nur ein Mietling, und ihm ist an den Schafen nichts gelegen.

14 Ich bin der gute Hirt und kenne die Meinen, und die Meinen kennen mich,

15 ebenso wie der Vater mich kennt und ich den Vater kenne; und ich gebe mein Leben für die Schafe hin. –

16 Ich habe auch noch andere Schafe, die nicht zu dieser Hürde gehören; auch diese muß ich führen, und sie werden auf meinen Ruf hören, und es wird eine Herde, ein Hirt sein.

17 Um deswillen hat der Vater mich lieb, weil ich mein Leben hingebe, damit ich es wieder an mich nehme;

18 niemand nimmt es mir, sondern ich gebe es freiwillig hin. Ich habe Vollmacht, es hinzugeben, und ich habe Vollmacht, es wieder an mich zu nehmen; die Ermächtigung dazu habe ich von meinem Vater erhalten.«

19 Da entstand wegen dieser Worte wieder eine Meinungsverschiedenheit unter den Juden.

20 Viele von ihnen sagten nämlich: »Er ist von einem bösen Geist besessen und ist von Sinnen: was hört ihr ihn noch an?«

21 Andere aber sagten: »Das sind nicht Worte eines Besessenen; kann etwa ein böser Geist Blinden die Augen auftun?«

22 Damals (oder: danach) fand das Fest der Tempelweihe in Jerusalem statt; es war Winter,

23 und Jesus ging im Tempel in der Halle Salomos auf und ab.

24 Da umringten ihn die Juden und sagten zu ihm: »Wie lange läßt du uns noch in Ungewißheit schweben? Bist du Christus (oder: der Messias), so sage es uns frei heraus!«

25 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Ich habe es euch gesagt, doch ihr glaubt (es) nicht. Die Werke, die ich im Namen meines Vaters vollbringe, die legen Zeugnis von mir (oder: für mich) ab;

26 aber ihr glaubt nicht, weil ihr nicht zu meinen Schafen gehört.

27 Meine Schafe hören auf meine Stimme, und ich kenne sie, und sie folgen mir nach;

28 und ich gebe ihnen ewiges Leben, und sie werden in alle Ewigkeit nicht umkommen (oder: verlorengehen), und niemand wird sie meiner Hand entreißen.

29 Mein Vater, der sie mir gegeben hat, ist größer als alle, und niemand vermag sie der Hand meines Vaters zu entreißen.

30 Ich und der Vater sind eins!«

31 Da holten die Juden wieder Steine herbei, um ihn zu steinigen;

32 Jesus aber sagte zu ihnen: »Viele gute Werke habe ich euch vom Vater her (d.h. aus oder: in der Macht meines Vaters) sehen lassen: welches von diesen Werken ist es, wegen dessen ihr mich steinigen wollt?«

33 Die Juden antworteten ihm: »Nicht wegen eines guten Werkes wollen wir dich steinigen, sondern wegen Gotteslästerung, und zwar weil du, der du doch (nur) ein Mensch bist, dich selbst zu Gott machst.«

34 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Steht nicht in eurem Gesetz geschrieben (Ps 82,6): ›Ich habe gesagt: Ihr seid Götter‹?

35 Wenn die Schrift schon jene (Männer), an die das Wort Gottes erging, Götter genannt hat – und die Schrift kann doch ihre Gültigkeit nicht verlieren –:

36 wie könnt ihr da dem, welchem der Vater die Weihe erteilt und den er in die Welt gesandt hat, Gotteslästerung vorwerfen, weil ich gesagt habe: ›Ich bin Gottes Sohn‹?

37 Wenn ich nicht die Werke meines Vaters tue, so glaubt mir nicht;

38 wenn ich sie aber tue, so glaubt, wenn auch nicht mir selbst, so doch meinen Werken, damit ihr immer gewisser zu der Erkenntnis gelangt, daß der Vater in mir ist und ich im Vater bin.«

39 Da suchten sie ihn wiederum festzunehmen, doch er entkam aus ihren Händen.

40 Er zog nun wieder in das Ostjordanland an den Ort (oder: in die Gegend), wo Johannes zuerst getauft hatte, und blieb dort.

41 Da kamen viele zu ihm und sagten: »Johannes hat zwar keinerlei Wunder getan, alles aber, was Johannes über diesen Mann gesagt hat, ist wahr gewesen.«

42 Und viele kamen dort zum Glauben an ihn.

1 Indeed indeed I say to you, he not entering through the door into the fold of the sheep, but going up another way, he a thief is and a robber;

2 he but entering through the door, a shepherd is of the sheep.

3 To him the door–keeper opens; and the sheep the voice of him hears; and the own sheep he calls by name, and he leads out them.

4 And when the own sheep he puts forth, before them he goes; and the sheep him follows, because they know the voice of him.

5 A stranger but not not they may follow, but will flee from him; because not they know of the strangers the voice.

6 This the parable said to them the Jesus; they but not knew, what was, which he spoke to them.

7 Said then again to them the Jesus: Indeed indeed I say to you, that I am the door of the sheep.

8 All as many as came before me, thieves are and robbers; but not heard them the sheep.

9 I am the door; through me if any one may come in, he shall be saved, and shall come in and go out, and pasture shall find.

10 The thief not come, if not that he may steal and may kill, and may destroy; I come, that life they may have, and abundance may have.

11 I am the shepherd the good; the shepherd the good the life of himself lays down in behalf of the sheep.

12 The hireling but, and not being a shepherd, of whom not are the sheep own, see the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf seizes them, and scatters the sheep.

13 The but hireling flees, because an hireling he is, and not it concerns him about the sheep.

14 I am the shepherd the good; and know the mine, and am known by the mine,

15 as knows me the Father, and I know the Father; and the life of me I lay down in behalf of the sheep.

16 And other sheep I have, which not is of the fold this; also them me it behooves to lead; and the voice of me they will hear, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

17 Through this the Father me loves, because I lay down the life of me, that again I may receive her;

18 no one takes her from me, but I lay down her of myself; authority I have to lay down her, and authority I have again to receive her; this the command I received from the Father of me.

19 A division then again occurred among the Jews through the words these.

20 Said and many of them: A demon he has, and is mad; why him hear you?

21 Others said: These the words not are of one being demonized; not a demon is able blind eyes to open?

22 Occurred now the feast of dedication in the Jerusalem, and winter it was;

23 and was walking the Jesus in the temple, in the porch of Solomon.

24 Surrounded therefore him the Jews, and said to him: Till when the life of us dost thou take? If thou art the Anointed, tell us plainly.

25 Answered them the Jesus: I told you, and not you believe. The works, which I do in the name of the Father of me these testify concerning me.

26 But you not believe; not for you are of the sheep the mine.

27 As I said to you, the sheep the mine the voice of me hears, and I know them, and they follow me;

28 and I life age–lasting give to them, and not not they will perish into the age, and not will wrest any one them out of the hand of me.

29 The father of me, who has given to me, greater of all is; and no one is able to wrest out of the hand of the Father of me;

30 I and the Father one are.

31 Took up then again stones the Jews, that they might stone him.

32 Answered them the Jesus: Many good works I showed you from the Father of me; because of which of them work do you stone me?

33 Answered him the Jews saying: Concerning a good work not we stone thee, but concerning blasphemy, and that thou, a man being, makest thyself a god.

34 Answered them the Jesus: Not is it having been written in the law of you: I said, gods you are?

35 If them he called gods, to whom the word of the God came, and not is able to be broken the writing;

36 whom the Father set apart, and sent into the world, you say: That thou blasphemest, because I said, A son of the God I am?

37 If not I do the works of the Father of me, not you believe me.

38 If but I do, and if me not you believe, the works believe you; that you may know and you may believe, that in me the Father, and I in him.

39 They sought therefore again him to seize; and he went forth out of the hand of them.

40 And he went again beyond the Jordan, to the place where was John the first dipping; and abode there.

41 And many came to him, and said: That John indeed a sign did not one; all but what things said John concerning this, true was.

42 And believed many there into him.
