1 »Euer Herz erschrecke nicht! Vertrauet auf Gott und vertrauet auf mich!

2 In meines Vaters Hause sind viele Wohnungen; wenn es nicht so wäre, hätte ich es euch gesagt; denn ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten;

3 und wenn ich hingegangen bin und euch eine Stätte bereitet habe, komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit da, wo ich bin, auch ihr seid.

4 Und wohin ich gehe – den Weg dahin kennt ihr.«

5 Da sagte Thomas zu ihm: »Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst: wie sollten wir da den Weg kennen?«

6 Jesus antwortete ihm: »Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater außer durch mich.

7 Wenn ihr mich erkannt hättet, würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen; von jetzt an kennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.«

8 Philippus sagte zu ihm: »Herr, zeige uns den Vater: das genügt uns.«

9 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: »So lange Zeit schon bin ich mit euch zusammen, und (trotzdem) hast du mich noch nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, der hat den Vater gesehen; wie kannst du sagen: ›Zeige uns den Vater!‹

10 Glaubst du nicht, daß ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, spreche ich nicht von mir selbst aus, nein, der Vater, der dauernd in mir ist, der tut seine Werke.

11 Glaubet mir, daß ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist; wo nicht, so glaubt doch um der Werke selbst willen!«

12 Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, wird die Werke, die ich tue, auch vollbringen, ja er wird noch größere als diese vollbringen;

13 denn ich gehe zum Vater, und alles, um was ihr (dann) in meinem Namen bitten werdet, das werde ich tun, damit der Vater im Sohn (oder: durch den Sohn) verherrlicht werde.

14 Wenn ihr mich um etwas in meinem Namen bitten werdet, so werde ich es tun. –

15 Wenn ihr mich liebt, so werdet ihr meine Gebote halten;

16 und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Helfer (oder: Anwalt, Beistand) geben, damit er bis in Ewigkeit bei euch sei:

17 den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht (d.h. kein Auge für ihn hat) und ihn nicht erkennt; ihr aber erkennt ihn, weil er bei euch bleibt und in euch sein wird. –

18 Ich will euch nicht verwaist zurücklassen (= als Waisenkinder dastehen lassen): ich komme zu euch!

19 Nur noch eine kurze Zeit, dann sieht mich die Welt nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich, daß ich lebe, und ihr sollt auch leben!

20 An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir seid und ich in euch.«

21 »Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält (= befolgt), der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden, und auch ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren.«

22 Da fragte ihn Judas – nicht der Iskariot –: »Herr, wie kommt es (oder: welches ist der Grund), daß du dich (nur) uns offenbaren willst und nicht (auch) der Welt?«

23 Jesus antwortete ihm mit den Worten: »Wenn jemand mich liebt, wird er mein Wort halten (oder: befolgen), und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm nehmen.

24 Wer mich nicht liebt, hält (oder: befolgt) auch meine Worte nicht; und doch kommt das Wort, das ihr hört, nicht von mir, sondern vom Vater, der mich gesandt hat.«

25 »Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch weilte.

26 Der Helfer (oder: Anwalt, Beistand) aber, der heilige Geist, den der Vater in meinem Namen senden wird, der wird euch über alles (Weitere) belehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe. –

27 Frieden hinterlasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht so, wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz erschrecke nicht und verzage nicht!

28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch gesagt habe: ›Ich gehe hin und komme wieder zu euch.‹ Hättet ihr mich lieb, so hättet ihr euch gefreut, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn der Vater ist größer als ich.

29 Und schon jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, bevor es geschieht, damit ihr zum Glauben kommt, wenn es geschieht.

30 Ich werde nicht mehr viel mit euch reden, denn es kommt der Fürst der Welt; doch über mich hat er keine Macht (oder: kein Anrecht auf mich).

31 Damit aber die Welt erkennt, daß ich den Vater liebe und so tue, wie der Vater mir geboten hat: erhebt euch! Laßt uns von hier aufbrechen!«

1 Not let be troubled of you the heart; believe you into the God, and into me believe you.

2 In the house of the Father of me dwellings many are; if but not, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you;

3 and if I should go, and should prepare for you a place, again I am coming, and will receive you to myself; so that where am I, also you may be.

4 And where I am going you know, and the way you know.

5 Says to him Thomas: O lord, not we know where thou art going? and how are we able the way to know?

6 Says to him the Jesus: I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, if not through me.

7 If you had known me, also the Father of me you would have known; and from now you know him, and have seen him.

8 Says to him Philip: O lord, show to us the Father, and it is enough for us.

9 Says to him the Jesus: So long a time with you am I, and not knowest thou me, O Philip? He having seen me, has seen the Father; and how thou sayest: Show to us the Father?

10 Not believest thou, that I in the Father, and the Father in me is? The words which I speak to you, from myself not I speak; the but Father, he in me abiding, he does the works.

11 You believe me, because I in the Father, and the Father in me, if but not, on account of the works themselves believe me.

12 Indeed indeed I speak to you, he believing into me, the works which I do, also he shall do, and greater of these shall he do; because I to the Father of me am going,

13 and what any thing you may ask in the name of me, this I will do; that may be glorified the Father in the son.

14 If any thing you may ask in the name of me, I will do.

15 If you love me, the commandments the mine keep you;

16 and I will ask the Father, and another helper he will give to you, that he may abide with you into the age;

17 the spirit of the truth, which the world not is able to receive, because not it beholds it, nor knows it; you but know it, because with you it abides, and in you it will be.

18 Not I will leave you orphans; I am coming to you.

19 Yet a little, and the world me no more beholds; you but behold me; because I live, also you shall live.

20 In that the day shall know you, because I in the Father of me, and you in me, and I in you.

21 He having the commandments of me, and keeping them, that is he loving me; he and loving me, shall be loved by the Father of me; and I will love him, and will manifest to him myself.

22 Says to him Judas (not the Iscariot): O lord, and how has it happened, that to us thou art about to manifest thyself, and not to the world?

23 Answered Jesus and said to him: If any one love me, the word of me he will keep; and the Father of me will love him; to him we will come, and a dwelling with him we will make.

24 He not loving me, the words of me not will keep; and the word which you hear, not is mine, but of the sending me Father.

25 These things I have spoken to you, with you abiding;

26 but the helper, the spirit the holy, which will send the Father in the name of me, that you will teach all things, and will remind you all things which I told you.

27 Peace I leave to you, peace the mine I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Not let be troubled of you the heart nor let it be afraid.

28 You heard, that I said to you: I am going away, and I am coming to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, that I am going to the Father; because the Father of me greater of me is.

29 And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

30 No more much I will speak with you. Is coming for he of the world ruling, and in me not has nothing.

31 But that may know the world, that I love the Father, and as commanded me the Father, so I do. Arise you, let us go from this place.
