1 »Denn das Himmelreich ist einem menschlichen Hausherrn gleich, der frühmorgens ausging, um Arbeiter für seinen Weinberg einzustellen.

2 Nachdem er nun mit den Arbeitern einen Tagelohn von einem Denar vereinbart hatte, schickte er sie in seinen Weinberg.

3 Als er dann um die dritte Tagesstunde wieder ausging, sah er andere auf dem Marktplatz unbeschäftigt stehen

4 und sagte zu ihnen: ›Geht auch ihr in meinen Weinberg, ich will euch geben, was recht ist‹;

5 und sie gingen hin. Wiederum ging er um die sechste und um die neunte Stunde aus und machte es ebenso;

6 und als er um die elfte Stunde wieder ausging, fand er noch andere dastehen und sagte zu ihnen: ›Was steht ihr hier den ganzen Tag müßig?‹

7 Sie antworteten ihm: ›Niemand hat uns in Arbeit genommen.‹ Da sagte er zu ihnen: ›Geht auch ihr noch in den Weinberg!‹

8 Als es dann Abend geworden war, sagte der Herr des Weinbergs zu seinem Verwalter: ›Rufe die Arbeiter und zahle ihnen den Lohn aus! Fange bei den letzten an (und weiter so) bis zu den ersten!‹

9 Als nun die um die elfte Stunde Eingestellten kamen, erhielten sie jeder einen Denar.

10 Als dann die Ersten (an die Reihe) kamen, dachten sie, sie würden mehr erhalten; doch sie erhielten gleichfalls jeder nur einen Denar.

11 Als sie ihn empfangen hatten, murrten sie gegen den Hausherrn

12 und sagten: ›Diese Letzten haben nur eine einzige Stunde gearbeitet, und du hast sie uns gleichgestellt, die wir des (ganzen) Tages Last und Hitze getragen haben!‹

13 Er aber entgegnete einem von ihnen: ›Freund, ich tue dir nicht unrecht; bist du nicht um einen Denar mit mir eins geworden?

14 Nimm dein Geld und gehe! Es gefällt mir nun einmal, diesem Letzten ebensoviel zu geben wie dir.

15 Habe ich etwa nicht das Recht, mit dem, was mein ist, zu machen, was ich will? Oder siehst du neidisch dazu, daß ich wohlwollend bin?‹

16 Ebenso werden die Letzten Erste und die Ersten Letzte sein. [Denn viele sind berufen, aber wenige auserwählt.]«

1 Like for is the kingdom of the heavens to a man a householder, who went out with morning to hire laborers into the vineyard of him.

2 Having agreed and with the laborers for a denarius the day, he sent him into the vineyard of him.

3 And going out about third hour, he saw others standing in the marketplace idle;

4 and to them he said: Go and you into the vineyard; and whatever may be just, I will give you. They and went away.

5 Again going out about sixth and ninth hour, he did in like manner.

6 About and the eleventh hour going out, he found others standing, and he says to them: Why here stood you all the day idle?

7 They say to him: Because no one us hired. He says to them: Go also you into the vineyard; and whatever maybe just, you shall receive.

8 Evening and having come on, says the lord of the vineyard to the steward of him: Call the laborers, and give to them the hire, beginning from the last, till the first.

9 And having come those about the eleventh hour, received each a denarius.

10 Having then those first, supposed, that more they shall receive; and received also they each a denarius.

11 Having received but they murmured against the householder,

12 saying: That these the last one hour worked, and equal to us them thou hast made, to the having endured the burden of the day, and the burning heat.

13 He but answering said to one of them: Friend, not I wrong thee; not of a denarius didst thou agree to me?

14 Take thee thine and go, I wish and to this the last to give as also of thee.

15 Or not is it lawful to me to do what I will with the my own? or the eye of thee evil is, because I good am?

16 Thus shall be the last, first; and the first, last. Many for are called, few but chosen.
