1 And it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2 (This taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be registered, each to [his] own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee to be taxed (out of [the] city of Nazareth, into Judea, to [the] city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of [the] house and family line of David).
5 And he took Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.
10 Then Pilate said to him, Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to crucify you, and I have authority to release you?
11 Jesus answered, You could have no authority against Me unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.
9 For a great and effective door opened to me, and many [are] opposing.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him; that the opponent not deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
26 Truly I say to you, You shall by no means come out from there until you have paid the last kodrantes.
12 having your conduct honest among the nations, in that which they speak against you as evildoers, they may glorify God in a day of [His] visitation, seeing [your] good works.
13 Then be in obedience to every ordinance of men, because of the Lord, whether to a king as supreme,
14 or to governors as sent by Him for vengeance [on] evildoers, but for praise [on] well-doers.
18 And you shall be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony against them and the nations.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak.
15 Behold, the nations [are] like a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the scales; behold, He takes up the coastlands as a very little thing.
17 All nations before Him [are] as nothing; and to Him they are thought to be less than nothing, and vanity.
1 Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities. For there is no authority but of God; the authorities that exist are ordained by God.
2 So that the one resisting the authority resists the ordinance of God; and the ones who resist will receive judgment to themselves.
3 For the rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the bad. And do you desire to be not afraid of the authority? Do the good, and you shall have praise from it.
4 For it is a servant of God to you for good. For if you practice evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword in vain; for it is a servant of God, a revenger for wrath on him who does evil.
5 Therefore [you] must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience' sake.
6 For because of this you also pay taxes. For they are God's servants, always giving attention to this very thing.
7 Therefore give to all [their] dues; to the [one due] tax, the tax; tribute to whom tribute [is due], fear to whom fear [is due], and honor to whom honor [is due].
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
17 Therefore tell us; what do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?
19 Show Me the tribute money. And they brought a denarius to Him.
20 And He said to them, Whose image and inscription [is] this?
21 They said to Him, Caesar's. Then He said to them, Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's.
24 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who received the didrachmas came to Peter and said, Does your master not pay the didrachmas?
25 He said, Yes. And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? From their sons, or from strangers?
26 Peter said to Him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then truly the sons are free.
27 But lest we should offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. And when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a stater; take that, and give it to them for Me and you.
