1 Vocês devem seguir o meu exemplo, tal como eu sigo o de Cristo.

2 Estou muito contente, irmãos, por me terem sempre no vosso pensamento e por fazerem tudo quanto vos tenho ensinado. 3 Mas há um assunto que quero que saibam: é que Cristo é a cabeça de todos os homens. O marido é a fonte da mulher. Deus é a fonte de Cristo. 4 Todo o homem que, quando está a orar ou a profetizar, cobre a cabeça desonra a Cristo. 5 E uma mulher que, em público, ora ou profetiza com a cabeça descoberta desconsidera o seu marido, porque é como se tivesse a cabeça rapada. 6 E se ela recusar cobrir-se, então que rape o cabelo. Mas se é uma vergonha uma mulher ter a cabeça rapada, então que a cubra. 7 Mas um homem não deverá ter nada na cabeça enquanto está a cultuar. O homem, feito à imagem de Deus, reflete a sua honra, e a mulher é o reflexo da honra do homem. 8 Com efeito, o primeiro homem não foi tirado da mulher, mas a primeira mulher foi tirada do homem. 9 E Adão, o primeiro homem, não foi feito para benefício de Eva, mas Eva, sim, foi feita para Adão. 10 Assim, a mulher deve cobrir a cabeça com um sinal de autoridade, por causa dos anjos.

11 Mas nos relacionamentos entre o povo do Senhor, o homem e a mulher precisam um do outro. 12 Porque se é verdade que a primeira mulher veio do homem, contudo todos os homens, desde então, nasceram de mulheres, e ambos, homens e mulheres, foram criados por Deus.

13 Vejam vocês mesmos: na vossa opinião será certo que uma mulher ore em público com a cabeça descoberta? 14,15 Porque as mulheres sentem orgulho no comprimento do seu cabelo, que lhe foi dado como um véu, enquanto os homens têm tendência para não se sentirem à vontade com o cabelo muito comprido e semelhante ao das mulheres. 16 E a quem quiser continuar a levantar discussões nós dizemos que é assim que pensamos; nós e também as igrejas de Deus.

17 E agora há um outro assunto em que não vos posso elogiar. Consta que quando se reúnem é maior o prejuízo do que a bênção recebida. 18 Ouço falar nas divisões que se manifestam nas vossas reuniões, e em parte acredito. 19 Mas eu até creio que é importante que isso aconteça para que sejam conhecidos os que estão certos.

20 Afinal quando se juntam, não é para participar na ceia do Senhor; 21 é para tomarem a vossa própria refeição. E assim cada um procura servir-se sem esperar para repartir com os outros, de tal forma que uns não comem o suficiente e outros excedem-se! 22 Não poderiam comer e beber cada um na sua casa, segundo a fome que tiverem, de forma a evitar esta vergonha para a igreja e a humilhação que representa para o pobre ter de retirar-se sem comer? Que esperam vocês que eu diga sobre isto? Não contem que venha elogiar-vos!

23 Eu recebi do Senhor o que já antes vos tinha transmitido. Na noite em que foi traído, o Senhor Jesus tomou o pão. 24 E depois de ter dado graças, partiu-o dizendo: "Tomem e comam; este é o meu corpo que é dado em vosso favor. Façam isto em memória de mim." 25 De igual modo, pegou no cálice do vinho, no fim da ceia, e disse: "Este cálice é a nova aliança selada com o meu sangue. Façam isto, todas as vezes que beberem, em lembrança de mim." 26 Porque cada vez que comerem este pão e beberem este cálice estão a anunciar a mensagem da morte do Senhor. Façam pois isto até que ele volte.

27 Por isso, se alguém come deste pão e bebe deste cálice do Senhor de uma maneira indigna, torna-se culpado de pecado contra o corpo e o sangue do Senhor. 28 É por isso que cada um se deve examinar cuidadosamente antes de tomar este pão e de beber deste cálice. 29 Porque se o fizer indignamente, não distinguindo o corpo do Senhor, está a comer e a beber para sua própria condenação. 30 É por isso que há no vosso meio muitos fracos e doentes e muitos já morreram.

31 Mas se cada um se examinar cuidadosamente evitará que seja julgado por Deus. 32 Contudo, quando somos julgados e castigados pelo Senhor, é para não sermos condenados com o resto do mundo. 33 Sendo assim, irmãos, quando se juntarem à mesa do Senhor, esperem uns pelos outros. 34 Se alguém tem realmente fome, deve comer em casa, para não atrair castigo sobre si próprio, quando estiverem todos reunidos.

Quanto aos outros assuntos, falarei sobre eles convosco quando aí chegar.

2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. 22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. 34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
