1 O exército israelita estava dividido em doze regimentos, cada um com 24.000 militares, incluindo oficiais e corpo administrativo. Estas unidades eram chamadas para um serviço activo um mês em cada ano. Esta é a lista das unidades e dos seus comandantes:
2 O comandante da primeira divisão era Jasobeão, filho de Zabediel, descendente de Peres. Tinha sob o seu comando 24.000 militares que estavam em actividade no primeiro mês de cada ano.
4 O comandante da segunda divisão era Dodai, um descendente de Aoí. Tinha sob o seu comando 24.000 homens. O seu serviço activo era executado no segundo mês de cada ano. Miclote era o seu oficial executivo.
5 O comandante da terceira divisão era Benaia. Tinha sob o seu comando uma tropa de 24.000 homens, em serviço activo no terceiro mês de cada ano. (O comandante era filho de Jeoiada, o sumo sacerdote, e era o chefe do grupo dos trinta oficiais de elite do exército de David.) O seu filho Amizabade sucedeu-lhe no comando desta divisão.
7 O comandante da quarta divisão era Asael, irmão de Joabe, que foi mais tarde substituído pelo seu filho Zebadias. Tinha 24.000 soldados, em serviço activo no quarto mês.
8 O comandante da quinta divisão era Samute, de Izra, com 24.000 homens, no activo durante o quinto mês.
9 O comandante da sexta divisão era Ira, o filho de Iques, de Tecoa; tinha 24.000 militares, no activo durante o sexto mês.
10 O comandante da sétima divisão era Helez, de Pelona em Efraim, com 24.000 homens, em serviço activo durante o sétimo mês.
11 O comandante da oitava divisão era Sibecai, do clã Husita de Zera, que tinha 24.000 soldados, em serviço no oitavo mês.
12 O comandante da nona divisão era Abiezer, de Anatote, na tribo de Benjamim, que comandava 24.000 homens, em serviço no nono mês.
13 O comandante da décima divisão era Maarai, de Netofa em Zera, com 24.000, em serviço no décimo mês.
14 O comandante da décima primeira divisão era Benaia, de Piraton em Efraim, com 24.000 soldados, em serviço no décimo primeiro mês, de cada ano.
15 O comandante da décima segunda divisão era Heldai, de Netofa, na área de Otniel, que tinha sob o comando 24.000 homens, em serviço no décimo segundo mês.
23 Quando David os recenseou, não incluiu os de vinte anos e mais novos, porque o Senhor prometera multiplicar o seu povo como as estrelas do céu.
24 Joabe iniciou o recenseamento, mas nunca chegou a acabá-lo, porque a ira do Senhor caiu sobre Israel; o total nunca foi inscrito nos anais do rei David.
25 Azmavete (filho de Adiel) era o tesoureiro do palácio real, e Jónatas (filho de Uzias) era o guarda dos armazéns, em cada região, nas cidades, aldeias e fortalezas de Israel.
26 Ezri (filho de Quelube) era o chefe do pessoal ao serviço do rei. Simei de Ramate era responsável por todas as vinhas do rei; e Zabdi de Sifma encarregava-se da produção vinícola e do seu armazenamento. Baal-Hamã de Gedera tinha o cargo dos olivedos, dos pomares de sicómoros, nas campinas próximo das fronteiras com os filisteus, enquanto que Joás se encarregava do armazenamento do azeite. Sitrai de Sarom superintendia sobre o gado, nas planícies de Sarom, e Safate (filho de Adlai) tinha o cargo do gado, também, mas nos vales. Obil, do território de Ismael, tinha a seu cargo os camelos; e Jedaías de Meronote, os burros. As ovelhas estavam sob os cuidados de Jaziz, o hagrita. Estes eram os superintendentes do rei David.
32 Jónatas, tio de David, estava encarregado dos cuidados a ter com os filhos de David; era um sábio conselheiro e um homem muito instruído. Jeiel (filho de Hacmoni) era o tutor dos príncipes.
33 Aitofel era conselheiro oficial do rei, e Husai o arquita era o seu consultor pessoal. Aitofel era assistido por Jeoiada (filho de Benaia) e por Abiatar. Joabe era o comandante do exército israelita.
1 Now the sons of Israel after their number, [to wit], the heads of fathers' [houses] and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that ministered to the king, in any matter of the courses which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year--of every course were twenty and four thousand.
2 Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
3 [He was] of the sons of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.
4 And over the course of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his course; and Mikloth the leader: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
5 The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, chief: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
6 This is that Benaiah, who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty: and his course was Ammizabad his son.
7 The fourth [captain] for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
8 The fifth captain for this fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
9 The sixth [captain] for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
10 The seventh [captain] for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
11 The eighth [captain] for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
12 The ninth [captain] for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
13 The tenth [captain] for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
14 The eleventh [captain] for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the sons of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
15 The twelfth [captain] for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
16 Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri the leader: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah:
17 of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of Aaron, Zadok:
18 of Judah, Elihu, one of the brothers of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:
19 of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel:
20 of the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:
21 of the half-[tribe] of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner:
22 of Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the captains of the tribes of Israel.
23 But David did not take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Yahweh had said he would increase Israel like the stars of heaven.
24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but didn't finish; and there came wrath for this on Israel; neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of King David.
25 And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah:
26 And over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:
27 and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: and over the increase of the vineyards for the wine-cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:
28 and over the olive-trees and the sycamore-trees that were in the lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:
29 and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:
30 and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.
31 All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.
32 Also Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:
33 And Ahithophel was the king's counselor: and Hushai the Archite was the king's companion:
34 and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the captain of the king's host was Joab.
