16 E deu um exemplo: Certo homem rico possuía uma propriedade fértil que dava boas colheitas. Assim os seus celeiros ficaram a transbordar, e não podia guardar tudo lá dentro. O homem pôs-se a pensar no problema. Por fim, exclamou: 'Já sei, vou deitar abaixo os celeiros e construir outros maiores. Assim terei espaço suficiente. Depois direi comigo mesmo: 'Amigo, armazenaste o bastante para os anos futuros. Agora, repousa e come, bebe e diverte-te.'20 Mas Deus disse-lhe: 'Louco! Esta noite vais morrer; e para quem fica tudo isso?'21 Sim, louco é quem acumula riquezas na Terra mas não é rico em relação a Deus.

15 And he said to them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all greed: for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of the things which he possesses.16 And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:17 and he reasoned to himself, saying, What shall I do, because I don't have a place to bestow my fruits?18 And he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will bestow all my grain and my goods.19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.20 But God said to him, You foolish one, this [is] the night they demand back your soul from you; and the things which you have prepared, whose will they be?21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
