Hear this word that Yahweh has spoken against you{+}, O sons of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying,
You{+} only I have known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will visit all your{+} iniquities on you{+}.
Will two walk together, except they have agreed?
Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has taken nothing?
Can a bird fall in a snare on the earth, where no trap is [set] for him? Will a snare spring up from the ground, and have taken nothing at all?
Will the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? Will evil befall a city, and Yahweh has not done it?
Surely the Sovereign Yahweh will do nothing, except he reveals his secret to his slaves the prophets.
The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Sovereign Yahweh has spoken; who can but prophesy?
Publish{+} in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria, and look at what great tumults are in it, and what oppressions are in the midst of it.
For they don't know to do right, says Yahweh, who stores up violence and robbery in their palaces.
Therefore thus says the Sovereign Yahweh: An adversary [there will be], even round about the land; and he will bring down your strength from you, and your palaces will be plundered.
Thus says Yahweh: As the shepherd rescues out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so will the sons of Israel be rescued that sit in Samaria in the corner of a couch, and on the silken cushions of a bed.
Hear{+}, and testify against the house of Jacob, says the Sovereign Yahweh, the God of hosts.
For in the day that I will visit the transgressions of Israel on him, I will also visit the altars of Beth-el; and the horns of the altar will be cut off, and fall to the ground.
And I will strike the winter-house with the summer-house; and the houses of ivory will perish, and the great houses will have an end, says Yahweh.
