1 Als nun David alt war und lebenssatt, so bestimmte er Salomo, seinen Sohn, zum Könige über Israel.

2 Und er versammelte alle Fürsten Israels, und die Priester, und die Leviten.

3 Und es wurden die Leviten gezählt von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, und ihre Zahl war, nach ihren Köpfen, acht und dreißig tausend Mann.

4 Von diesen waren vier und zwanzig tausend bestimmt, die Aufsicht zu führen über die Arbeit am Hause Jehova's, und sechs tausend waren Vorsteher und Richter;

5 und vier tausend waren Thürhüter, und vier tausend Lobsänger Jehova's mit Saitenspielen, die ich gemacht habe zum Lobsingen.

6 Und David theilte sie in Abtheilungen nach den Söhnen Levi's: Gerson, Kehath, und Merari.

7 Zu den Gersonitern gehörten: Laedan und Simei.

8 Die Söhne Laedans waren: das Haupt Jehiel, und Setham, und Joel, drei.

9 Die Söhne Simei's: Schelomith, und Hasiel, und Haran, drei. Dieß waren die väterlichen Häupter von Laedan.

10 Und die Söhne Simei's: Jahath, Sina, und Jeusch, und Beria. Dieß die Söhne Simei's, vier.

11 Und Jahath war das Haupt, und Sina, der Zweite; und Jeusch und Beria hatten nicht viele Kinder, darum wurden sie für Ein väterliches Haus gerechnet.

12 Die Söhne Kehaths waren: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron, und Usiel, vier.

13 Die Söhne Amrams: Aaron und Mose. Und Aaron wurde abgesondert, das Allerheiligste zu heiligen, er und seine Söhne, auf ewig, zu räuchern vor Jehova, ihm zu dienen, und zu segnen in seinem Namen ewiglich.

14 Und Mose, der Mann Gottes. Seine Söhne wurden nach dem Stamme Levi genannt.

15 Die Söhne Moses waren: Gersom und Elieser.

16 Die Söhne Gersoms: Schebuel, das Haupt.

17 Und die Söhne Eliesers waren: Rehabja, das Haupt. Und Elieser hatte keine andern Söhne; aber die Söhne Rahabja's waren überaus zahlreich.

18 Die Söhne Jizhars waren: Schelomith, das Haupt.

19 Die Söhne Hebrons: Jeria, das Haupt, Amarja, der zweite, Jehasiel, der dritte, und Jekameam, der vierte.

20 Die Söhne Usiels: Micha, das Haupt, und Jischia, der zweite.

21 Die Söhne Merari's waren: Machli und Musi. Die Söhne Machli's: Eleasar und Kis.

22 Und Eleasar starb, und hatte keine Söhne, nur Töchter; und es nahmen sie die Söhne des Kis, ihre Brüder.

23 Die Söhne Musi's waren: Machli, und Eder, und Jeremoth, drei.

24 Dieß sind die Söhne Levi's, nach ihren väterlichen Häusern, die väterlichen Häupter, wie sie gemustert wurden nach der Zahl der Namen, nach ihren Köpfen, Alle, welche die Arbeit verrichteten beim Dienste im Hause Jehova's, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber.

25 Denn David sprach: Jehova, der Gott Israels, hat seinem Volke Ruhe verschafft; und er hat Wohnung zu Jerusalem genommen auf ewig;

26 darum haben die Leviten nicht mehr zu tragen die Wohnung, und all ihr Geräthe zu ihrem Dienste.

27 Denn nach den letzten Worten Davids war dieß die Zahl der Söhne Levi's, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber.

28 Denn sie sollten den Söhnen Aarons beim Dienste im Hause Jehova's zur Seite stehen, für die Höfe, und für die Zellen, und für die Reinlichkeit des ganzen Heiligthums, und für die Verrichtung des Dienstes im Hause Gottes,

29 und für die Schaubrode und für das feine Mehl zum Speisopfer, und für die ungesäuerten Fladen, und für die Pfannen, und für das Geröstete, und für alles Maß und Gewicht;

30 und um jeden Morgen zu stehen, um Jehova zu loben und zu preisen, und so auch des Abends;

31 und um alle Brandopfer Jehova zu opfern an den Sabbathen, Neumonden, und Festen, nach der Zahl, ihrer Anweisung gemäß. beständig vor Jehova.

32 Und sie sollten besorgen, was zu besorgen war im Versammlungszelte, im Heiligthume, und für die Söhne Aarons, ihre Brüder, beim Dienste des Hauses Jehova's.

1 Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3 And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. 4 Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges; 5 and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith. 6 And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan. 10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, for ever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, for ever. 14 But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17 And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto his people; and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever: 26 and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof. 27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God; 29 for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size; 30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even; 31 and to offer all burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Jehovah; 32 and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
