1 Der Aelteste an die auserwählte Frau und an ihre Kinder, die ich in Wahrheit liebe, (und nicht nur ich, sondern auch Alle, welche die Wahrheit erkannt haben)

2 um der Wahrheit willen, die in uns bleibt, und ewig mit uns seyn wird.

3 Gnade, Erbarmen, Friede sey mit euch von Gott, dem Vater und dem Herrn, Jesu Christo, dem Sohne des Vaters, durch Wahrheit und Liebe.

4 Es hat mich sehr gefreuet, daß ich unter deinen Kindern solche gefunden, welche in der Wahrheit wandeln, wie wir die Vorschrift von dem Vater empfangen haben.

5 Und nun bitte ich dich, Kyria! - nicht als ob ich dir ein neues Gebot schreiben wollte, sondern das wir von Anfang her gehabt, - lasset uns einander lieben.

6 Und dieses ist die Liebe, daß wir nach seinen Geboten wandeln; dieses ist das Gebot, wie ihr von Anfang gehört, daß ihr darnach wandeln sollet!

7 Viele Verführer sind in die Welt ausgegangen, welche leugnen, daß Jesus Christus im Fleische gekommen. Ein solcher ist der Verführer und der Widerchrist.

8 Seyd auf eurer Hut, damit nicht unsere Arbeit verloren gehe, sondern voller Lohn uns werde!

9 Wer abfällt und nicht bei der Lehre Christi bleibt, der hat Gott nicht; wer aber bei der Lehre bleibt, der hat sowohl den Vater als den Sohn.

10 Wenn Jemand zu euch kommt, und bringet diese Lehre nicht; so nehmet ihn nicht in‘s Haus auf, und begrüßet ihn nicht!

11 Denn wer ihn begrüßt, der nimmt Theil an seinen bösen Werken.

12 Ich hätte noch Vieles zu sagen; aber ich wollte es nicht durch Papier und Dinte; sondern ich hoffe euch zu besuchen, und mündlich zu sprechen, damit unsere Freude um so vollkommener werde.

13 Die Kinder deiner auserwählten Schwester lassen dich grüßen.

This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, even they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the anti-christ. 8 Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into your house, and give him no greeting: 11 for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.

12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write them with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be made full. 13 The children of thine elect sister salute thee.
