1 Im siebenzehnten Jahre Pekahs, des Sohnes Remalja's, wurde Ahas König, der Sohn Jothams, des Königs von Juda.

2 Zwanzig Jahre alt war Ahas, als er König wurde, undsechszehn Jahre herrschete er zu Jerusalem; und er that nicht, was recht war in den Augen Jehova's, seines Gottes, wie David, sein Vater, gethan hatte;

3 sondern wandelte auf dem Wege der Könige von Israel, und ließ sogar seinen Sohn durchs Feuer gehen, nach den Gräueln der Völker, welche Jehova vertrieben hatte vor den Söhnen Israels.

4 Und er opferte und räucherte auf den Höhen, und auf den Hügeln, und unter jedem grünen Baume.

5 Damals zogen Rezin, der König von Syrien, und Pekah, der Sohn Remalja's, König von Israel, herauf nach Jerusalem zum Streite, und belagerten Ahas; sie konnten ihn aber nicht überwältigen.

6 Zu derselben Zeit brachte Rezin, der König von Syrien, Elath wieder an Syrien, und vertrieb die Juden aus Elath; und die Syrer kamen nach Elath, und wohnten daselbst bis auf den heutigen Tag.

7 Und Ahas sandte Boten an Tiglath-Pileser, den König von Assyrien, und ließ sagen: Ich bin dein Knecht und dein Sohn. Komme herauf, und hilf mir aus der Hand des Königs von Syrien, und aus der Hand des Königs von Israel, die wider mich aufgestanden sind!

8 Und Ahas nahm das Silber und das Gold, das in dem Hause Jehova's, und in den Schätzen des Hauses des Königs sich fand, und sandte es dem Könige von Assyrien zum Geschenke.

9 Und der König von Assyrien hörte auf ihn, und der König von Assyrien zog herauf gegen Damaskus, und nahm es ein, und führte die Einwohner gefangen nach Kir, und tödtete Rezin.

10 Da zog der König Ahas Tiglath-Pileser, dem Könige von Assyrien entgegen nach Damaskus, und sah den Altar, welcher zu Damaskus war; und der König Ahas sandte an Uria, den Priester, das Ebenbild des Altars, und dessen Vorbild nach seinem ganzen Werke.

11 Und Uria, der Priester, bauete den Altar; ganz nach dem, was der König Ahas gesandt hatte von Damaskus, machte ihn Uria, der Priester, bis der König Ahas zurückkam von Damaskus.

12 Als der König zurückkam von Damaskus, und als der König den Altar sah, trat der König zu dem Altar, und opferte darauf;

13 und zündete sein Brandopfer an, und sein Speisopfer, und goß sein Trankopfer aus, und sprengte das Blut seiner Dankopfer auf den Altar.

14 Und den ehernen Altar, der vor Jehova stand, rückte er weg von seiner Stelle vor dem Hause zwischen dem Neuen Altar, und zwischen dem Hause Jehova's, und setzte ihn zur Seite des Altars gegen Mitternacht.

15 Und der König Ahas gebot Uria, dem Priester, und sprach: Auf dem großen Altar zünde das Brandopfer des Morgens an, und das Speisopfer des Abends, und das Brandopfer des Königs, und sein Speisopfer, und das Brandopfer des ganzen Volkes des Landes, und ihre Speisopfer, und ihre Trankopfer, und alles Blut des Brandopfers, und alles Blut des Schlachtopfers sprenge auf ihn! Und wegen des ehernen Altars will ich mich noch bedenken.

16 Und Uria, der Priester, that ganz so, wie ihm der König Ahas gebot.

17 Und der König Ahas brach die Leisten der Gestelle ab, und that von ihnen das Becken weg, und hob das Meer ab von den ehernen Rindern, die darunter waren, und setzte es auf das Steinpflaster.

18 Auch die Sabbathshalle, die man gebauet hatte im Hause, und den äußern Eingang des Königs verlegte er in das Haus Jehova's, wegen des Königs von Assyrien.

19 Und die übrige Geschichte des Ahas, was er gethan, steht das nicht geschrieben in dem Buche der Tagesgeschichte der Könige von Juda?

20 Und Ahas entschlief wie seine Väter, und wurde begraben bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids. Und Hiskias, sein Sohn, wurde König an seiner Statt.

1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. 2 Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah his God, like David his father. 3 But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations, whom Jehovah cast out from before the children of Israel. 4 And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him. 6 At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath to Syria, and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath, and dwelt there, unto this day.

7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me. 8 And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria. 9 And the king of Assyria hearkened unto him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin.

10 And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus; and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof. 11 And Urijah the priest built an altar: according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so did Urijah the priest make it against the coming of king Ahaz from Damascus. 12 And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar: and the king drew near unto the altar, and offered thereon. 13 And he burnt his burnt-offering and his meal-offering, and poured his drink-offering, and sprinkled the blood of his peace-offerings, upon the altar. 14 And the brazen altar, which was before Jehovah, he brought from the forefront of the house, from between his altar and the house of Jehovah, and put it on the north side of his altar. 15 And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt-offering, and the evening meal-offering, and the king’s burnt-offering, and his meal-offering, with the burnt-offering of all the people of the land, and their meal-offering, and their drink-offerings; and sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt-offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: but the brazen altar shall be for me to inquire by. 16 Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that king Ahaz commanded.

17 And king Ahaz cut off the panels of the bases, and removed the laver from off them, and took down the sea from off the brazen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a pavement of stone. 18 And the covered way for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king’s entry without, turned he unto the house of Jehovah, because of the king of Assyria. 19 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
