1 Im dritten Monate, nachdem die Söhne Israels vom Lande Aegypten ausgezogen waren, an diesem Tage kamen sie in die Wüste Sinai.

2 Und sie brachen auf von Rephidim, und kamen in die Wüste Sinai, und lagerten sich in der Wüste, und Israel war dort gelagert vor dem Berge.

3 Und Mose stieg hinauf zu Gott, und Jehova rief ihm vom Berge, und sprach: So sollst du sprechen zum Hause Jakobs, und sagen zu den Söhnen Israels:

4 Ihr habet gesehen, was ich gethan den Aegyptern, und wie ich euch getragen auf Adlersflügeln, und euch zu mir gebracht habe.

5 Und nun, wenn ihr höret auf meine Stimme, und haltet meinen Bund; so sollet ihr mir ein Eigenthum seyn aus allen Völkern; denn mir gehört die ganze Erde.

6 Und ihr sollet mir ein Priesterkönigreich, und ein heiliges Volk seyn. Dieß sind die Worte, die du reden sollst zu den Söhnen Israels.

7 Und Mose kam, und rief die Aeltesten des Volkes, und legte ihnen alle diese Worte vor, die Jehova ihm geboten hatte.

8 Da antwortete das ganze Volk zugleich und sprach: Alles, was Jehova geredet hat, wollen wir thun. Als Mose diese Worte des Volkes zurückbrachte an Jehova;

9 da sprach Jehova zu Mose: Siehe! ich komme zu dir in dichter Wolke, damit das Volk es höre, wann ich mit dir rede; und auch durch dich ewig glaube. Und Mose sagte die Worte des Volkes zu Jehova.

10 Und Jehova sprach zu Mose: Gehe zum Volke, und heilige sie heute und morgen; und laß sie ihre Kleider waschen,

11 und bereit seyn auf den dritten Tag; denn am dritten Tage wird Jehova herabkommen vor den Augen des ganzen Volkes auf den Berg Sinai.

12 Und mache dem Volke eine Grenze ringsum und sprich: Hütet euch, den Berg hinaufzusteigen, und seinen Fuß zu berühren; Jeder, der den Berg berührt, muß des Todes sterben.

13 Keine Hand soll ihn berühren, sondern ein solcher soll gesteinigt, oder mit Pfeilen erschossen werden; sey es ein Thier oder ein Mensch, er darf nicht leben; wann man das Jobelhorn bläst, dann sollen sie den Berg heraufsteigen.

14 Da stieg Mose herab vom Berge zum Volke, und heiligte das Volk; und sie wuschen ihre Kleider.

15 Und er sprach zum Volke: Seyd bereit auf den dritten Tag, berühret kein Weib!

16 Und es geschah am dritten Tage, als es Morgen war, da waren Donner und Blitze, und schwere Wolken auf dem Berge, und sehr starker Posaunenschall; da erbebte das ganze Volk, das im Lager war.

17 Und Mose führte das Volk aus dem Lager Gott entgegen, und sie traten unten hin an den Berg.

18 Und der ganze Berg Sinai rauchte; weil Jehova auf ihn herabgekommen war im Feuer, und sein Rauch aufstieg, wie der Rauch eines Ofens; und der ganze Berg bebte sehr.

19 Und der Posaunenschall wurde stärker und stärker. Mose redete, und Jehova antwortete ihm mit der Stimme.

20 Und Jehova kam herab auf den Berg Sinai, auf den Gipfel des Berges; und Jehova rief Mose auf den Gipfel des Berges. Als Mose hinaufgestiegen;

21 da sprach Jehova zu Mose: Gehe hinab, warne das Volk, daß sie nicht durchbrechen, um Jehova zu sehen, und Viele von ihnen fallen.

22 Und auch die Priester, die zu Jehova nahen, sollen sich heiligen, damit Jehova nicht sie erschlage.

23 Und Mose sprach zu Jehova: Das Volk kann nicht zum Berge Sinai heransteigen; denn du hast uns gewarnet, und gesprochen: Mache eine Grenze um den Berg und heilige ihn.

24 Und Jehova sprach zu ihm: Gehe, steige hinab, und komm du, und Aaron mit dir wieder herauf! aber die Priester und das Volk sollen nicht durchbrechen, heraufzusteigen zu Jehova, damit er sie nicht erschlage.

25 Und Mose ging hinab zum Volke, und sagte es ihnen.

1 In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount. 3 And Moses went up unto God, and Jehovah called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: 6 and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Jehovah commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah hath spoken we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people unto Jehovah. 9 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Jehovah. 10 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments, 11 and be ready against the third day; for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. 12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: 13 no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount. 14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments. 15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not near a woman.

16 And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18 And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. 20 And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount: and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. 21 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish. 22 And let the priests also, that come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth upon them. 23 And Moses said unto Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou didst charge us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. 24 And Jehovah said unto him, Go, get thee down; and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto Jehovah, lest he break forth upon them. 25 So Moses went down unto the people, and told them.
