Das Evangelium Jesu Christi, des Sohnes Gottes, fing an; wie es beschrieben ist bei dem Propheten Jesaias: 
Siehe! ich sende meinen Gesandten vor dir her, der deinen Weg bereiten wird vor dir her.vor dir her, fehlt im Griechischen. 
Die Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Bahnet den Weg des Herrn, ebnet seine Pfade! 
So trat Johannes als Täufer in der Wüste auf, und predigte die Bußtaufe zur Vergebung der Sünden. 
Das ganze jüdische Land und alle Einwohner von Jerusalem wanderten zu ihm hinaus, ließen sich von ihm im Flusse Jordan taufen, und bekannten ihre Sünden. 
Johannes trug Kleidung von Kameelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden. Er aß Heuschrecken und wilden Honig. 
Er predigte und sprach: Es kommt Einer nach mir, der mehr vermag, als ich; nicht würdig bin ich, niedergebückt ihm die Schuhriemen zu lösen. 
Ich habe euch mit Wasser getauft; er aber wird euch mit dem heiligen Geiste taufen. 
Und es geschah um jene Zeit, daß Jesus von Nazareth in Galiläa kam und von Johannes im Jordan sich taufen ließ. 
Sobald er aus dem Wasser stieg, sah er den Himmel sich öffnen, und den Geist wie eine Taube herabsteigen, und über ihm bleiben.Im Griechischen steht nur: wie eine Taube auf ihn herabsteigen. 
Und eine Stimme erscholl vom Himmel: Du bist mein geliebter Sohn, an dem ich Wohlgefallen habe. 
Gleich darauf trieb ihn der Geist in die Wüste. 
Er hielt sich in der Wüste vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächtevierzig Nächte ist nicht im Griechischen. auf; wurde vom Satan versucht; wohnte unter wilden Thieren, und die Engel leisteten ihm Dienste. 
Nachdem aber Johannes in Verhaft genommen war, kam Jesus nach Galiläa, predigte das Evangelium vom göttlichen Reiche, und sprach: 
Die Zeit ist erfüllet, und das Reich Gottes ist nahe, thut Buße und glaubet dem Evangelium! 
Als er an dem galiläischen Meer ging, sah er Simon und dessen Bruder Andreas die Netze in dem See ausbreiten; denn sie waren Fischer. 
Jesus redete sie an: folget mir nach, und ich will euch zu Menschenfischern machen. 
Sogleich ließen sie ihre Netze und folgten ihm. 
Als er von da ein wenig weiter gegangen, sah er Jakobus, Zebedäus Sohn, und dessen Bruder Johannes, welche im Schiffe ihre Netze zurecht macheten. 
Er rief auch diese, und sie ließen ihren Vater, Zebedäus, mit den Taglöhnern im Schiffe und folgten ihm. 
Als sie sich nun nach Kapernaum begaben, ging er am Sabbathe in die Synagoge und lehrte sie.sie, fehlt im Griechischen. 
Man staunte über seine Lehrart; denn er lehrte sie wie Einer, der Gewalt hat, und nicht wie die Schriftlehrer. 
In ihrer Synagoge war nun ein Mensch mit einem unreinen Geiste, welcher schreiend rief: 
Ach, Jesus von Nazareth! was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen? bist du gekommen, uns zu vertilgen? Ich kenne dich, wer du bist; der Heilige Gottes! 
Jesus bedrohete ihn und sprach: Verstumme und geh aus von ihm! 
Da riß ihn der unreine Geist noch hin und her, und unter großem Geschrei fuhr er aus von ihm. 
Da wurden alle so bestürzt, daß sie sich einander fragten und sprachen: Was ist das? welche neue Lehre ist das! Sogar den unreinen Geistern befiehlt er mit Macht, und sie gehorchen ihm! 
Und das Gerücht von ihm verbreitete sich bald in der ganzen Umgegend Galiläens. 
Aus der Synagoge begaben sie sich alsbald in Simons und Andreas Haus mit Jakobus und Johannes. 
Simons Schwiegermutter lag an einem Fieber krank; sogleich sprach man mit ihm von derselben. 
Er ging zu ihr, faßte sie bei der Hand und richtete sie auf; alsbald verließ sie das Fieber und sie diente ihnen. 
Am Abende aber, nach dem Untergange der Sonne, bracht man zu ihm allerlei Kranke und Besessenen; 
und die ganze Stadt war vor der Hausthüre versammelt. 
Er heilte Viele, die von verschiedenen Krankheiten geplagt wurden, und trieb viele Teufel aus; ließ siedie Teufel, nach dem Griechischen. aber nicht reden, weil sie ihn kannten. 
Früh Morgens, ehe es Tag war, stand Er auf, ging hinaus, und begab sich an einen einsamen Ort, wo er betete. 
Simon und die bei ihm waren, eilten ihm nach; 
und als sie ihn gefunden, sagten sie zu ihm: Jedermann sucht dich. 
Er sprach zu ihnen: Wir wollen in die nächst gelegenen Flecken und Städte gehen, damit ich auch dort predige; denn dazu bin ich gekommen. 
Er predigte nun in ihren Synagogen, in ganz Galiläa, und trieb die Teufel aus. 
Es kam auch ein Aussätziger zu ihm, der flehend ihm zu Füßen fiel und zu ihm sprach: Wenn du willst, so kannst du mich reinigen. 
Jesus, von Mitleid gerührt, streckte seine Hand aus, rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Ich will es; sey rein! 
So wie er es gesagt hatte, wich der Aussatz von ihm und er war rein. 
Er schärfte ihm nun ernstlich ein; ließ ihn sogleich gehen, 
und sprach zu ihm: Hüte dich, daß du Niemand etwas sagest; sondern gehe hin, zeige dich dem Hohenpriester,Priester, nach dem Griechischen und opfere für deine Reinigung, was Moses verordnet hat, ihnen zum Zeugnis. 
Allein, sobald er fort war, fing er an, viel von der Sache zu reden, und das Gerücht zu verbreiten, so daß Er nicht einmal mehr öffentlich in die Stadt kommen durfte; sondern außerhalb derselben, in unbewohnten Gegenden blieb; wiewohl man von allen Seiten zu ihm kam.

John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. 5 And there went out unto him all the country of Judæa, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8 I baptized you in water; but he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit. 
And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him: 11 and a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased. 
And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him. 
Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel. 
And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers. 17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. 18 And straightway they left the nets, and followed him. 19 And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets. 20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. 
And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24 saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 26 And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him. 28 And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about. 
And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her: 31 and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. 
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons. 33 And all the city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him. 
And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed. 36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him; 37 and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee. 38 And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth. 39 And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons. 
And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 41 And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean. 42 And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. 43 And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out, 44 and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
