51 Ein gewisser Jüngling folgte ihm nach, der um den Leib ein Leintuch geworfen. Und siedie Mannschaft, nach dem Griechischen. griffen ihn.

52 Er ließ aber das Leintuch fahren und entfloh ihnen nackt.

53 Jesum führten sie nun zu dem Oberpriester, bei welchem alle Priester, Schriftlehrer und Aeltesten zusammenkamen.

54 Petrus folgte ihm von ferne nach bis in das Innere des Palastes des Oberpriesters; setzte sich mit den Bedienten und wärmte sich am Feuer.

55 Die Oberpriester und der ganze Rath suchten inzwischen wider Jesum Zeugnisse auf, um ihn dem Tode überliefern zu können; fanden aber keines.

56 Denn obgleich viele falsche Zeugen wider ihn auftraten; so waren doch die Zeugnisse nicht hinreichend.

57 So traten einige als falsche Zeugen wider ihn auf und sagten:

58 Wir haben ihn sagen hören: ich will diesen mit Händen erbaueten Tempel zerstören, und innerhalb drei Tagen einen andern aufführen, der nicht mit Händen erbauet ist.

59 Auch dieses ihr Zeugniß war nicht hinreichend genug.

60 Da trat nun der Oberpriester selbst in die Mitte und fragte Jesum und sagte: Antwortest du nichts? was zeugen diese gegen dich?

61 Er aber schwieg und antwortete kein Wort. Der Oberpriester fragte ihn wieder und sagte: Bist du Christus, der Sohn des Hochgelobten?

62 Darauf sprach Jesus zu ihm:zu ihm, fehlt im Griechischen. Ich bin es, und ihr werdet den Sohn des Menschen zur Rechten des Allmächtigen sitzen, und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen.

63 Da zerriß der Oberpriester sein Oberkleid und sprach: Wozu verlangen wir ferner Zeugen?

64 Ihr habet selbst die Lästerungen gehört. Was ist eure Meinung? Sie verdammten ihn nun Alle, er sey des Todes schuldig.

65 Da fingen Einige an, ihn anzuspeien; sein Angesicht zu verhüllen; ihn mit Fäusten zu schlagen; und zu sagen: Weissage uns! Die Bedienten schlugen ihn mit der flachen Hand in's Angesicht.

66 Während Petrus nun unten in dem Hofe war, kam eine von den Mägden des Oberpriesters,

67 und da sie den Petrus sich wärmen sah, blickte sie ihm in's Gesicht und sprach: Ja, du warest auch bei Jesu dem Nazarener!

68 Er leugnete es aber ab und sprach: Ich weiß und verstehe nicht, was du da sprichst! Da er nun in den Vorplatz herausging, krähete der Hahn.

69 Die Magd sah ihn wieder, fing an und sagte zu den Umstehenden: Dieser gehört auch zu ihnen!

70 Er leugnete es abermals ab. Nicht lange nachher redeten den Petrus die Umstehenden wieder an: Gewiß! gehörst du zu ihnen; denn du bist ein Galiläer.deine Sprache verräth dich, liest man hier noch im Griechischen.

71 Darauf betheuerte er mit Flüchen und Schwüren: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht, von dem ihr sprechet.

72 Da krähete der Hahn zum zweiten Mal, und dem Petrus fielen die Worte ein, die Jesus zu ihm gesagt: Ehe der Hahn zweimal krähet, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnet haben. Und er fing an zu weinen.

51 And a certain young man followed with him, having a linen cloth cast about him, over his naked body: and they lay hold on him; 52 but he left the linen cloth, and fled naked.

53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and there come together with him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. 54 And Peter had followed him afar off, even within, into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light of the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found it not. 56 For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not together. 57 And there stood up certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, 58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands. 59 And not even so did their witness agree together. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven. 63 And the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What further need have we of witnesses? 64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death. 65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

66 And as Peter was beneath in the court, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest; 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and saith, Thou also wast with the Nazarene, even Jesus. 68 But he denied, saying, I neither know, nor understand what thou sayest: and he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. 69 And the maid saw him, and began again to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. 70 But he again denied it. And after a little while again they that stood by said to Peter, Of a truth thou art one of them; for thou art a Galilæan. 71 But he began to curse, and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak. 72 And straightway the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word, how that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
