1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
2 This census first took place while Cyrenius was governing Syria.
3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
10 Then Pilate said to Him, Do You not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to crucify You, and authority to release You?
11 Jesus answered, You could have no authority at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.
9 For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many opposing.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
26 Truly I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.
12 having your behavior honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man because of the Lord; whether to the king as supreme,
14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.
18 And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious about how or what you should speak, for it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;
15 Behold, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the fine dust on the scales; behold, He lifts up the islands as a very little thing.
17 All the nations before Him are as nothing; and to Him they are accounted as less than nothing, and vanity.
1 Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are ordained by God.
2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will receive judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.
4 For he is Gods minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is Gods minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
5 Therefore it is necessary to be subject, not only because of wrath but also because of conscience.
6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are Gods ministers attending continually to this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the Law.
17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you test Me, hypocrites?
19 Show Me the tribute money. So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this?
21 They said to Him, Caesars. And He said to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods.
24 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who received the tribute came to Peter and said, Does your Teacher not pay the tribute?
25 He said, Yes. And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?
26 Peter said to Him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then the sons are free.
27 Nevertheless, that we not offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.
