1 Moisés, acompanhado das autoridades de Israel, ordenou ao povo:

― Obedeçam a todos estes mandamentos que hoje dou a vocês. 2 Quando atravessarem o Jordão e entrarem na terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, dá a vocês, levantem algumas pedras grandes e pintem‑nas com cal. 3 Escrevam nelas todas as palavras desta lei, assim que tiverem atravessado para entrar na terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, dá a vocês, terra onde fluem leite e mel, como o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, lhes prometeu. 4 Quando tiverem atravessado o Jordão, levantem essas pedras no monte Ebal, como hoje ordeno a vocês, e pintem‑nas com cal. 5 Construam ali um altar ao Senhor, o seu Deus, um altar de pedras. Não utilizem ferramenta de ferro nas pedras. 6 Construam o altar do Senhor, o seu Deus, com pedras brutas e sobre ele ofereçam holocaustos* ao Senhor, o seu Deus. 7 Sacrifiquem também ofertas de comunhão, comam e alegrem‑se na presença do Senhor, o seu Deus. 8 Nessas pedras que levantarem, vocês escreverão com bastante clareza todas as palavras desta lei.

9 Então, Moisés, tendo ao seu lado os sacerdotes levitas, disse a todo o Israel:

― Faça silêncio e escute, ó Israel! Agora você se tornou o povo do Senhor, o seu Deus. 10 Obedeça ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e siga os seus mandamentos e estatutos que hoje dou a você.

11 No mesmo dia, Moisés ordenou ao povo:

12 ― Quando vocês tiverem atravessado o Jordão, as tribos que estarão no monte Gerizim para abençoar o povo serão: Simeão, Levi, Judá, Issacar, José e Benjamim. 13 As tribos que estarão no monte Ebal para declararem maldições serão: Rúben, Gade, Aser, Zebulom, Dã e Naftali.

14 ― Os levitas recitarão a todo o povo de Israel em alta voz:

15 "Maldito seja aquele que esculpir uma imagem ou fizer um ídolo fundido, obra de artesãos, detestável ao Senhor, e levantá‑lo secretamente".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

16 "Maldito seja aquele que desonrar o seu pai ou a sua mãe".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

17 "Maldito seja aquele que mudar o marco de divisa da propriedade do seu próximo".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

18 "Maldito seja aquele que fizer o cego errar o caminho".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

19 "Maldito seja aquele que violar os direitos do estrangeiro, do órfão ou da viúva".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

20 "Maldito seja aquele que se deitar com a mulher do seu pai, desonrando a cama do seu pai".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

21 "Maldito seja aquele que tiver relações sexuais com algum animal".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

22 "Maldito seja aquele que se deitar com a sua irmã, filha do seu pai ou da sua mãe".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

23 "Maldito seja aquele que se deitar com a sua sogra".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

24 "Maldito seja aquele que matar secretamente o seu próximo".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

25 "Maldito seja aquele que aceitar pagamento para matar um inocente".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

26 "Maldito seja aquele que não guardar as palavras desta lei".

Todo o povo dirá: "Amém!".

1 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: "Keep all these commands that I give you today. 2 When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3 Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5 Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. 6 Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7 Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. 8 And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up."

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, "Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God. 10 Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today."

11 On the same day Moses commanded the people:

12 When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. 13 And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.

14 The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:

15 "Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

16 "Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

17 "Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

18 "Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

19 "Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

20 "Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

21 "Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

22 "Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

23 "Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

24 "Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

25 "Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

26 "Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out."

Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"
